View Full Version : Gibbs: Master Tactician

BTW, since my earlier rant about LaVar was so well received, thoroughly trounced and entirely discredited ;), I figure I'll pluck another random thought from the wonderful world of Vicodin. Don't worry, this one is overwhelmingly positive. :)
Now that I've had almost a day to think about this, I think that LaVar was made inactive for the game by the coaches as part of a larger ploy. Be it known that I have absolutely ZERO evidence of this, but I like to live in my own little Redskin world.
Let's start with what IS known: Gibbs is a master tactician. Like a brilliant chess master, he's always thinking several moves ahead. He is incredibly detail oriented and never, ever leaves a stone unturned. He is a tireless workaholic who wills his way to win by being more disciplined and better prepared than his opponent. To him, every little bit matters.
Earlier in the week, Gibbs listed Samuels, Arrington, Springs and Rogers all as probable to play against Dallass. That made Parcells and crew have to assume that all would be playing and have to account for them when devising their game plan. Then, on Friday, Gibbs downgraded Arrington and Rogers. This had several advantage for us. First, since most if not all of the Dallass gameplan was set, they could not go back and change very much. Secondly, this condition covers for Holdman and Harris, who have been weaker links than either Arrington and Rogers. So, Dallass couldn't take advantage of them. Brilliant!
Now, here's where things start to become more of a working hypothesis with a shelf life of about 48 hours. By several accounts, LaVar was healthy enough to play yesterday. In fact, he couldn't wait to play and was supremely disappointed when it didn't happen. So, why did the coaches sit a healthy LaVar? To me, I think it is part of the same chess match.
Next week against the Gints -- a game we MUST win -- LaVar will be probably listed as questionable. As such, the Gints will devise a gameplan that will endeavor to attack Holdman. Then, come Sunday, guess who starts? That's right, LaVar will surprise the Gint with an emotional return to the lineup. Gibbs has bamboozled yet another team and given us an advantage yet again.
OK, so there is my improbable explanation for why LaVar did not play and how he will make a triumphant return next week. Tear it to shreds as you will. After the game last night my mind is still racing and I cannot stop thinking B&G, so thanks for bearing with me.
So, who's coming with me on this one, lol?

Interesting, but one things bugs me: Gibbs fully expected this game to go down to the wire. Why would he sell himself short of a defensive weapon in such an important game?

I will say that on a couple occasions I almost fell while climbing on chairs! I immediately thought of you bro!
I'm not sure what happened, but I want LaVar in there this week. No matter what though, I trust the coaches to make the right call.

:lol1: , I agree with you. I tell you what, if it works out the way B&G says, he will look like a super genius. I cannot believe how well both Holdman and Harris played yesterday. WOW!

Dude, I think there is some serious games and sandbagging going on here. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if what you theorize is true.

I see nothing wrong with it. We are going to slaughter NYG and leave them so dazed they drop their game in Oakland. Redskins for the division BABY!!

Well, come to think of it, Lavar may have not been so healthy that he would have done a better job than Holdman/Clemons. By keeping him out, Gibbs refuses to reveal the true state of his potent linebacker to Coughlin, and by the mixed signals coming out of Redskins Park, not even we know. :)

I think Lavar was behind the grassy knowle and the picket fence......
And Gibbs is in the book depository.

Well, this is a conspiracy thread, after all.

I don't think there's a lot of trickery going on here. Lavar supposedly believed he was in a good enough condition to play. That doesn't necessarily make it so. Lavar is not a doctor, and the doctors could have ruled him out without any influence for Lavar's desire to play. Just because Lavar believed he was healthy and could play doesn't necessarily make it so.

I can agree with that most of the time, but there are plenty of accounts where players ignore doctors and team physicians and even coaches and insist that they are going to play. I mean, I hate TO with a passion, but if I'm not mistaken isn't that precisely what he did to play in the Superbowl last year? So, I think saying that players don't have a whole lot of say if they play with pain -- or even injury sometimes -- is probably overstated.
Now, a compelling argument could be made that the coaches thought at 100% of Holdman was better than 75% of LaVar (ripped this off of someone so props to that guy). If that's the case, there really can be no argument. The coaches did what they thought was best for the team.
Yet, I opt for the more crafty and shrewd play that Gibbs is three moves ahead of us all. ;)

I fail to see any masterplan at work other than what has been concocted by some people here, maybe I need some of the meds BNG is taking....;)

I think that Gibbs and GW are playing a little bit of mind tricks on people late in the season, but I want to give a small shout out to Chris Clemons. That dude was always around Bledsoe's arms and body. He was just about always putting pressure on Bledsoe. I wonder if he could do a repeat on Manning.

He has been a beast when he gets a chance to play. I think he was a great pick up and hopefully an impact player like Pierce was and Lemar Marshall is.

Chris Clemons is da MAN. I remember the game where he SACKED Manning for a big loss when they were in our red zone. I am hoping that we can bear the pressure down on Eli with Chris leading the pass-rushing attack from the wing.

Has anybody thought about a 3-4 package with Clemons, Washington, and (a healthy) Lavar coming from the outside while Lemar drops back into a disguised coverage and Daniels and Wynn (if they can get there) faked rushing and then dropped out to the flats? At home, that's a sack or a tackle for a loss, period.

ok buddy, you got electronic gizmo's in my rooms??? I had LaVar's avatar up right after I removed Thrash when the cowgirls game was done. However, your mentioning the when he'll play is different from what I see. I see him coming in for periods to test the WAY the Giants change from audibles and how ofter Barber's figured into to that (flat passes, shuttles, try to see if LaVar's capable of fading back fast enough when Mannning dumps of quick (kid throws darts, but Arrington, I swear, from previous years got jumps on passes like those, when you thought he couldn't). If LaVar's up to his old speed, whichis HIGHLY likely, we may see a 3-4 with PP going to safety on switch off with Taylor, who switches to the 4th LB. It can stop Barber and Taylor's swift enough for passing lanes short or long.
