View Full Version : The Tailgating Only Thread -- Redskins vs. Eagles

All -
I felt the "Roll Call" thread was getting a little cluttered to try and keep the tailgating information organized. halter91 is organizing a tailgate in the U parking lot (see link for map).
I want this thread to be very specific and not get off the topic of getting the following information:
1) Who is coming and how many people are they bringing?
2) What are you bringing in terms of food/beverage/supplies?
3) Any other information related to being at the game Sunday and tailgating with all your rowdy friends.
My original thought is that each person bring enough of something to share. For example, I am planning on doing ribs so I'll make extra ribs. Maybe someone else is doing burgers and will bring two boxes instead of one. Instead of a six pack of beer, maybe you bring a case... The point is to get everyone to contribute and have a good time. Also note that plan to bring according to the number of people coming with you. I have a total of six and not everyone is brining something so I will bring extra on top of the ribs (probably pulled pork and maybe either brats/kielbasa).
In terms of supplies, I have a grill, table, propane, and coolers if it sounds we need extra. Also, let me know if we want to coordinate any driving plans. I have at least one group meeting me in Delaware and going from there (maybe at a rest stop so we don't have people getting lost). So lets plan well and enjoy what could potentially be a very special day in the history of the Washington Redskins franchise.
I'm looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting a lot of you for the first time!

Smoak, A bunch of people are also meeting at the Maryland house, and I believe a few will have extra room if anyone needs a ride.
I'm also bringing a grill a case or 2 of beer and a deep fryer to make some wings. If anyone wants to bring something to deep fry, feel free.
I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you, I've already made a ton of close friends from tailgating with the Extremeskins guys, and I look forward to doing the same over here, after all we are all Skins fans!!
See you Sunday, Wear you colors and be loud!!

Alright, its gonna be me and 5 others. Some Eagles fans... some I don't really know , we'll see later on. But expect the Princess and her crew to be 6 strong. The U parking lot is in Citizen's bank park. I know that during Phillies games, they prohibit tailgating in that area (doesn't mean people dont do it, but it is prohibited), so I would have somebody check before everyone goes ahead and does whatever. I would hate to see everyone have their stuff only to have to tear it down. The Wachovia Complex lot (which is also a cash lot- $10. Does alow tailgating (there is even a grassy spot that we can claim if we get there early enough, but pleanty of parking, so that isn't a problem. Its closer to the Linc. then Citizens bank park too.
I haven't have the chance to see the forecast, I heard lower 40s (which is just tropical for me!) but BE WARNED: If it is windy, the Linc, makes it worse. Its like a freakin' wind tunnel in there. So if they are calling for wind, bundle up, cause its gonna be even colder in the staduim.
Watch the Traffic. The Mummers parade shuts down A LOT of streets. You need to know where you are going. If you guys are coming down from I-95 North, take the I-76/Island Avenue Exit, go towards 76, taking the Plat bridge over, and turn right at the second light. You should avoid all of the trouble that you will have with closing of streets. Any other problems, just PM me.
Is there anything inparticular that you guys are craving for the tailgate? I'll make something, but you gotta let me know ahead of time.
I'll post more if I can remember anything else.

I'll probably be in the wachovia lot, it is alot easier getting back on 95 south from that lot after the game. Need to check in with some people who are going to the game, specifically my wife's cousin who gave me the tixs before I know what I will be doing to tailgate.

so on which lot will everyone be tailgating? We wil be in lot H. I guess we should just meet/greet any Skins fans that we see up there. Have never been to any Philly games but of course have heard the rumors. What should I expect. I really am not that worried plus I think there will be a heck of alot of Skins up there

This is a major question that we need need resolved ASAP! I called the Iggles yesterday to make sure and the guy was useless. Honestly, he was braindead I think. He said he only knew about the two lots the Eagles own??? He wasn't sure about any other parking area??
ARGH!!!
What can we do to make sure we are ok in U or switch the site?

I believe the U lot is technically owned by the city of Philadelphia, hence the banning of tailgating. I also believe that the rules are not enforced there, they turn the other way. However, officials may by a little more stringent on what goes on in the lot and may crack down a little more if you do anything wrong.

I'll contact halter, but I woudl rather not take a chance personally. It would be our luck that they enforce the rules just because we are Skins fans!

I have a bunch of soda (Coke) that I want to unload. I normally don't drink the stuff, but I bought it to tailgate and this may be the last Skins game of the year for me. However, I am lacking in diet soda and water...
I am definitely bringing my stuff to sacrifice.
Food wise, I am going to try my hand at ribs since the last batch was only so-so. That and probably pulled pork if I can get my hands on a nice butt... (snicker, snicker).

Hi. Guys
I'll definitely be there. That Being said there are a few rules to tailgating in Philly. First and foremost if you are in a non tailgating lot beer must be in a solid colored plastic cup and your cooler must be in your car. Second be advised that a lot of Beagles fans may try to rat you out' be careful who you talk to. Third avoid the Holiday Inn this is the equivelent to F51 at Fed Ex. I live 20 min. from the Linc.( Vet) and have been going to Beagles games for 20 years. If you have any questions feel free to e mail me at redskins0213@comcast.net.

What is F51 at FedEx like? I was just near there on Sunday (not by choice) and it was ok... not great, but ok?
Let's make a decision. I am back and forth, but I would rather not have to keep the cooler in the vehicle and drink beer from a plastic cup... Next thing you'll tell me I can't drink tequila from some chick's belly button!?
Oh wait, my wife would probably agree with that one...

The safest lots are where the old Vet used to be or at the Wachovia Center. DO NOT PARK AT F.D.R. ACROSS FROM WACHOVIA UNLSESS YOU HAVE EAGLES GREEN ON OR A DEATH WISH!

I'm sure we won't be the only ones tailgate in Lot U, I say we stay there, and if we get moved, then we can worry about it then. Unless someone has a better idea. Like I stated earlier, the guy I work with says we should be okay. I know for sure that Lot D, in the Wachovia Cente parking lot will be fine, but a lot of die hard park over there. But then again, they might not be that many. Uggghhh, decisions, decisions!! :banghead:

Count me and 3 other Skins fans in.
If you tell me what to bring, I'll bring it.
What time are you planning on starting it all up?
Also, am I correct in saying that if I drive there, I'll easily be able to find parking? Last time I went to an Eagles game, I went to the Vet and parked probably 200 yards from the stadium easily enough for only $20. Can someone let me know please?

I just got this PM...
URGENT INFO - PLEASE READ
*** CHANGE OF PLANS ***
I just called the Philadelphia Eagles at 215 463 2500.
I asked for directions to lot U, and asked if alcohol was allowed. The woman who answered said there is NO TAILGATING ALLOWED in Lot U !!!
She recommends we should park at the Wachovia lot which is close to the stadium. She says the Wachovia lots are marked Lots A through Lots H. She says we should take I-95, exit onto Broad St., then turn right onto Pattison St, and then enter the Wachovia Lots. She said Wachovia lots are cash lots, and allow tailgating and allow alcohol. She said the lots will open at 7 AM!!! She said the parade will not interfere with game traffic, because even though the Parade will be on Broad St., the parade does not come close to the stadium.
So the caravan will be re-routed to the Wachovia Lots. I'm not sure which lettered lot. I will PM Halter91 and a few other people.
It is more important than ever to get there early since these lots are close to the stadium, are cash lots, they allow tailgating, and will therefore be the first to fill up.
If you can't join the Caravan but you want to join the REDSKINS tailgate, please PM me and I'll give you my cell which you can call Sunday.
How about lot D? Any other suggestions??!!?!?!?! This SUCKS!!!

We are going to move the "FED EX NORTH" tailgate from lot U to Lot D, which opens at 11am. I plan on being there early, bu 9-10ish. I called the Iggles office and there are only 3 lots that allow tailgating, and us being Skins fans, i can almost gaurentee we would get ratted out.

I'll be there at 11!!! I'll have a small sampling of italian sausage and garlic sausage subs from good old Scranton, PA maybe even some breakfeast. I don't know how many people are comming, but I'm thinking I'll trade food for a little of Smoaks and Halter's. I'll have my roadtrip grill with burner attachment if anyones needs to cook with a pot.
A few things of note about the Wachovia Lots, as I used to be a sixers season ticket holder and have tailgated at almost every sixers home playoff game in the Iverson era.
1/ Bring plastic cups!!!! I've seen many times when cops confiscated beer that was in a bottle or can.
2/ There is a lack of bathrooms, some people go under I95, I have seen people busted there for public urination.
3/ Try to set up the tailgate in that middle D section, but a little more towards broad street, I believe that the D closer to the link gets filled pretty fast and since we have so many vehicles it may be a good idea to keep as much free space as possible.

I know that they just got some of the Jonny on the spot things in the WAC, so those will be available to use. I'd wait for the ones in the Linc.
Trust me guys, this spot is SO much better! We are much closer to the field! IMHO, so that we aren't bothered, I say we take the top right corner and claim it as our own. The Middle section is Comcast Sports Net and the bottom one (if there is a sixers game... not sure) will be filled with Employees. We are better off in the top corner!!
