It wasn’t much as restaurants go, a seedy place in South Philly where the locals went to dine. But everyone knew who went there on that night. A faint glow came from the second floor window across the street in a run down apartment building. The low hum of a tape unit and the unmistakable smell of stale cigar and cigarette smoke hung in the room. One man hunched over a pair of long-range binoculars, peering into the damp drizzle of the night lit by the erratic flash of the neon sign. Another man sat at the desk with headphones pulled tight, straining to catch every word. Seated at a table in the restaurant …

“Don Vito, this is a bad time!”
“Yeah, Clemenza it is a very bad time.”
“We hear rumblings on da street dat these guys is tough and they are coming to town to finish the job.”
“ Youse think we have to worry about dem?”
“I been reading about what’s been said about dem and our guys….”
“You can’t read to well Clemenza, whose been reading to you?”
"Truth, Godfather, I swear, I heard it from the horses mouth...Ha… Ha… horses mouth!!!!”
“There you go again with that horses head… you stump!”
“Whose dem guys that is saying these things?”
“You know, Godfather, dem guys from down I-95. The ones what laid a hammer big time on the other crews!”
“Tell me everything youse thinks dem guys know – if you can think – and I tell youse what we do!”

“I believe the Redskins have the desire and Gibbs has the knowledge and those two things will give us a good shot, yes I believe.”- RedSkinBrit

It is a great run; now the Redskins face the “Iggles”, a team in self-inflicted disarray with absolutely nothing to prove…except personal pride!
And that is a great motivator!
"There's only one way we're going to get into the playoffs, and that's beat Philly,'' Gibbs said.
Philadelphia Daily News beat man Les Bowen reported it Monday: "The Eagles are a little short on weapons right now. Maybe you've picked up on that." Another tidbit that adds drama to the final game of the 2005 season!

“I don't take the Eagles lightly at all playing in their nest.” - RedskinsVision

Philadelphia's offense is minus its quarterback, receivers, running back, center and left tackle. There's not much left to scare a defense, but the “Iggles” did average 20 points the past three weeks despite interception-happy QB Mike McMahon. The Redskins' biggest problem could be not taking the battered “Iggles” seriously.
The unwritten rule in the NFL is that late season rookie stars are dangerous. So the “Iggles” have two, Reggie Brown and Ryan Moats. Coach Reid was heard to say that Brown might be able to step into Owens' No. 1 receiver spot.
Rookie Ryan Moats, who was pretty impressive in the past two games before last week, was held to 13 yards on nine carries in their last game. This can work both ways, either opportunity to rebound or continue on a downward spin. Sean Taylor, the fastest Redskins defender, has to keep Moats from breaking a long one.

“Personally, I a more afraid of Philly than anything, there is nothing that a bad team whose season is over likes more than company.” - funnyperson1

This final game of the regular season comes down to execution! A cornerstone of that effort is the offensive line performance.

“Absolutely! Portis, Betts, and Cartwright have been unstoppable recently and it’s all because of the Dirtbags.” - Skinz4lyfe

“The bottom line about the O-line is that they have given up only TWO sacks in the last month and have gotten Portis over 100 yards in each of those four games.” - whitskins

Redskins RT Jon Jansen who has played all year with a cast or splint on his broken right thumb, held the Giants' Michael Strahan without a sack last week. Versus “Iggles” supreme pass rusher LDE Jevon “the Freak” Kearse, Jansen needs a repeat. Kearse is questionable with an ailing knee! He didn't practice Wednesday. N.D Kalu is the potent backup. Portis' fortunes have changed with the Redskins' commitment to power football. After being sporadic in the rushing department, the Redskins' running backs carried 40 times against the “Gints”. The result is a team playing the kind of December football that is Gibbs' trademark. "You can pick your poison," Portis said. "You can either let Santana (Moss) and (Chris) Cooley kill you, or you can let me grind it out.”

Coach Gibbs is committed to the power running game, but demands a great passing effort also.
"There isn't anybody who has better long-ball reactions than Santana," Coach Joe Gibbs said. "It's just phenomenal. He turned around (on the 59-yard touchdown) and snatched that thing from I don't know where."
Coach said it best. Santana Moss is making history and bringing the Redskins into the post season.

"It's awesome," Cooley said. "Thanks to the coaches for calling the plays and to all my teammates." Yes, Chris Cooley is awesome! A key part of the game against the “Iggles” is getting the ball to Chris at the right time and place. You cannot discount the effort the “Iggles” D will put into trying to stop that from happening. The “Iggles “ Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins may not be fooled as he was last week when he blew a coverage that left Anquan Boldin wide open for one of McCown's two touchdown passes.

The injury to Mark Brunell in the stunning win over the “Gints” has raised concerns among the Redskins fans.

“Ramsey did fine, but did absolutely nothing to change the situation. We wont do anything in the playoffs without Brunell. Brunell is the starting QB of this team! Don't forget it!” - PennSkinsFan

There was more good news Monday, when an MRI confirmed the original diagnosis: a mild sprain of the MCL in Brunell's right knee, with no further damage. Washington Redskins director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer told Gibbs the knee had very little swelling. While we applaud the calm and efficient effort of Patrick Ramsey, many fans of the Redskins are glad to know that the “Old Man” will be back under center for the final game. Coach Gibbs and Brunell tried to be as vague as possible, but there were clear hints of optimism that the quarterback will ready to start the game that could clinch the Redskins' first playoff berth in six years. A victory Sunday over Philadelphia guarantees Washington (9-6) at least a wild card spot and would mean the NFC East title if the “Gints” lose at Oakland on Saturday night. Brunell is enjoying a solid year at age 35. He has completed 59 percent of his passes - roughly his career average - for 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions and a rating of 87.8. His experience allows Coach Gibbs some latitude this week - Brunell doesn't need a lot of practice.

The Redskins have peaked at the right time of the year -- four consecutive victories to secure their first winning season since 1999 -- but they're not quite home free. Losses by Atlanta and Minnesota over the weekend knocked out two potential competitors for a playoff spot, but Dallas won to remain alive. Leave it to the cowpukes to screw around!!!!! The Redskins are playing in the playoffs – right now!

“They simply do not have the talent to compete with us especially on offense.” - Skinz4lyfe

The “Iggles” struggled badly against the Arizona blitz last week. The Redskins almost certainly will do the same this week unless the “Iggles” can get their ground game going early on and force them to back off. Andy Reid has tried every week to get quarterback Mike McMahon off to a fast start, but to no avail. They'll try again this week against one of the league's best pass defenses. Mike McMahon has thrown the same number of touchdown passes to his teammates as he has to his opponents. Most of McMahon's troubles have come early. In the first half, he's completed only 32 percent (25-for-78) of his passes for 359 yards, five interceptions and no TDs. He's at his best in the fourth quarter, completing 31 of 61 passes for 330 yards, two TDs and one interception.

Finally, a word about playing in the City of Brotherly Love…

Four of the “Iggles” 10 penalties in Saturday's 27-21 loss to the Cardinals were false-start penalties. Noise hardly was a contributing factor in quiet and near empty Sun Devil Stadium. The “Stink” maybe a different story, but rumor has it that there should be a dedicated minority of Burgundy & Gold supporters in evidence. It has been awhile since the Redskins 12th Man made a road trip! Could this weekend mark a renewal?

“This game will be as tough as they come. Players for the Eagles want to make a serious statement, continue their contracts, continue as starters in certain positions, and some coaches will be coaching for their dear life. This game will be a playoff type game, just as Joe Gibbs said. Been there, done that.” – bgforever

“Well, Godfather, what do we do?

“Forget the gun, forget the cannolis!
We are leaving town!!!!!”

Happy New Year to the "Crew" and Hail to the Redskins

Awesome stuff NamVet4! We are definetely peaking at the right time and I really think that is a great trait of Gibbs coached team. This was the case last year and we have certainly built on it for this year. Gibbs is also doing a great job of preparing for Philadelphia and not allowing them to become too excited. Can't wait till we officially make the playoffs.

Hail to the Redskins!
