Well... We'll be playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Saturday 7. Do you know what happened on the 7th day of January two years ago? Well, Coach Gibbs came back to the Redskins!!! The official announcement came until January 8 I think, but I, and I know you all, was jumping all around filled with happiness since the 7.

I wanted to create this thread to remember a little how devastated we were 2 years ago right now when SS lead us to misery and to a meaningless defeat against (if I'm not mistaken) the Eagles. Two years later we come from a victory against the Eagles, our dreams have come true... Gibbs is in charge and we are again in the playoffs!!

Your second year of your second era is over.... Let's celebrate it Coach! Let's get another win for you!!!

Good point. That week marked the exorcism of a coaching demon, the uncertainity of his successor, and then the greatest possible return that any of us could have possibly imagined. Talk about all the emotions. And here we sit my friend....what difference a couple years make, huh?

When I think back to that day in early 2004, I still get emotional. to go from feeling like the Skins are perrenial dogs to feeling like all of a sudden we were back to being a force was amazing! Just to have Gibbs back instantly took me from beat down to up and swinging.... It was like when I was a kid and Hulk Hogan would look dead in the water only to start shaking and comeback with the leg drop...

Well I am ready to drop the leg on the entire city of Tampa... Which oddly enough is where I think Hogan calls home? Weird? I didn't think of that until just now. I wonder if he is a Bucs fan? If so, I say we invite Macho Man to the game!!

If you watched the USC/Texas game you saw Matthew McConaughey on the sideline of Texas and they won the National Championship. He is also a Redskins fan, so hopefully that is a good sign for the Skins!

Congrats smoak on the most random string of sentences to be put together. :D

Yes, this is a VERY good Omen!! And I have to say, thank you Danny Boy. Because lets face it, he was the one that went out got our man and got him to stay. He also (dare I say it) secured the BEST successor for when Gibbs 2.0 is over. He opened his wallet and the results were good! (Side note: Mike and I saw the GREATEST jerseys ever on two guys at the game, instead of numbers, they were Dollar Signs and it had Snyder on the back. FANTASTIC!).

Joe Gibbs, thank you just isn't enough. You've made life away from the home of the skins so much more bareable. (Not one eagles fan can say anything to me until we play them next year!!) I saw we win out COMPLETELY and do it all for Joe Gibbs.

We are so lucky to have Gibbs back. He has brought back all the little things and tradition that was lost after Dan bought the team. Now we are back to where things were. I am so glad. Now lets go get payback from the bucs.

LT28, thanks for reminding us how far we've come. I've been with this Redskin family for as long as I can remember (33+ years). I've experienced the euphoria of Superbowl championships and the miserable depths of last place finishes. Although, the worse day ever as a Redskin fan was that last game of the 2003 against Philly. I remember our players sitting on the sidelines laughing and joking around as we were getting pummelled by the eagles. I remember the eagles fans getting louder and louder and more annoying as the score became more and more lopsided. I remember our fans filing out in droves by the start of the fourth quarter. I remember walking out of our stadium getting harrassed, yelled at, laughed at by a sea of green jerseys. That day saddened me to the degree of no other as a Redskin fan. It became clear to me we had a coach that had given up. We had players that didn't even care and we had fans that were at their wits end. I was so angry I even considered not renewing my season tickets. Although, in just 2 years I've seen a complete reversal of the attitude of our coaches, our players and our 12th Man. And the single most important reason for that is coach Gibbs!

That's awesome. I knew there was some reason i like him and was mimic-ing "hook 'em, 'horns" with him last night on ABC.

I found an awesome SI Q & A about a year old:

SI: How does a kid from Texas become a Washington Redskins fan?
McConaughey: I'll tell you how. I grew up in Texas. Born in Uvalde and raised in Longview, which is two hours east of Dallas. So when you are six years old why do you start liking a team? Well, when your favorite food is hamburger and they have a linebacker, No. 55, named Chris Hanberger. And then you find yourself up late watching Westerns and rooting for the Indians instead of the Cowboys. So you become a Redskin fan. Then you have people like John Riggins who becomes your favorite running back. Everybody in town loved Tony Dorsett, so you have to stand up for Riggins. I was at the last game at RFK, the first game at Fed Ex and the first game at Jack Kent Cooke.

This also reminds me of how much hype the Spurrierific era had(offensive genius...needs time to adjust to pros, etc.) with a big fat 0 for results. And then (after the initial HOF hype) Gibbs is railed with game-past-him-by propaganda, only to lead us to the playoffs in his second year.:)

Gibbs is a winner period !!!!

I admit that last year I nearly lost faith on him. However, he turned this franchise around and I love it.

Way to go coach !!

Keep the faith !!!!
