Conjuring up ghosts would take all day to show a Mike McCormick (Clev) vs Rosey Grier (LA Rams), or Joe Jacoby vs Reggie White or even a Russ Grimm vs Randy White, etc.

As of right now, the matchup that gets everyone's attention will be the return matchup of two Heavyweights going toe to toe at 4:30pm and there will be bulbs flashing, tape rolling and mouths flapping at every frame by frame movement. This one's for the books. True both will present TEAMS on the field and each team has its favorites. However the one that has a feature feel to it, is this one. The line is where it all starts.

Chris Samuels showed me last week that he deserved the pro-bowl, but there's no way he has convinced everyone. So I expect a big day from Chris...notice though, that I said "expect", it's not guaranteed. I think the run game will dominate though...so if we can shut down Rice, advantage us.

Rice-Samuels is a huge matchup and its vital Samuels prevail. Rice can cause havoc and although Brunell is very good under pressure we need to give him lots of time to make the appropriate decisions that he always does.

i think out of all the DEs out there, samuels needs to prepare for rice the most. rice has pretty much owned him the past couple of times ive seen them play against each other, and if u hear rice's comments, he knows it too. if we are gonna do well on offense, samuels needs to have a big day

Well, one thing is for sure, Royal won't be isolated with him this time. I don't remember seeing Rice beat Samuels in the last game. I saw Rice beat Royal twice, one on the whistlegate play. We made adjustments after that and Samuels kept Rice in check.
Last season, I think it was Rice that caused Brunell to fumble that Tampa scored on but that is the only time I remember Rice beating Samuels.

I think they assigned Cooley on Rice a bit to chip him too last time. I suspect that Samuels will be locking horns with Rice all day this time. He might get help but he'll be the primary this time.

This is definately a title bout for sure. It'll be fun to see these guys go at it all day long. I'm sure Cooley and/or Sellers/Portis will provide some help, but Samuels is all man, and will show his worth against Rice.

This battle is important but I would argue that all season long the matchups that Jon Jansen has had have been more important. He is protecting the blindside.

After the last couple of weeks when Brunell really didn't get pressure from any of those good, if not great, DEs coming out of the East, I don't expect Samuels to have that big of a problem. I also think that we will be playing a lot of max protect and running the ball right at Rice. IMO, we should be alright. Gibbs learned what he needed to the last game.

Huh? For whatever reason, I remember that as being an unforced error? I thought maybe Friedman had stepped on Brunell and he still tried to make the exchange to Portis and fumbled it.

Either way, this is going to be an important bout, but if we run the ball effectively, Samuels can wear down on Rice.

Lets see if Samuels deserves that Pro Bowl. I think he does.

Samuels will do well as he has all season. But Joe and Joe are not dummys, they will not leave Chris on an island every play. H backs, TE's and RB's will chip on the DE whenever they have the chance to help Samuels.

If they don't do this, Samuels will be worn out in the first quarter of the game. Rice is fast as hell, and Samuels will need help containing him today.

Yeah, I think you are right. For whatever reason, I thought Rice caused that. Maybe it was the alcohol and the heat of that day.:whoknows:

That would be true if we were a pass happy team. Expect the Redskins to rush early and often if Portis continues to have success. An effective ground game will slow down Rice very nicely.

Oh, I totally agree. I think that will be the key to the game. Run often, and keep there offense off the field.

Samuels is a very good tackle and I don't think Rice is going to be a huge problem. The most important battle imo is Ray Brown vs. Booger. If Booger is able to put pressure on the pocket from the interior then the pass rush will be much more effective and the running game will have problems.

You're right. But Brown has done a great job at filling in for Thomas and I don't see that stopping now.
