Pretty much a good statements from him. says the move caught him off guard and propped up here lately. Didn't understand why they waited this long, until camp to do this. Pretty much said the Skins front office has been chaotic the past six years. Says he wasn't surprised that this is the way the Skins front office treats people.

Gave big props to the fans and the DC area, says we deserve better that the product we get. Says he would liek to continue living here regardless of where he goes.

Sounds like he's bitter to me. Just appreciating the fans though.

One thing that John Thompson and Doc Walker stated on WTEM is the quote where Big daddy stated that they kept changing the deal, changing the bar. Thompson stated that it was the first sign that regardless of what was trying to be worked out, that the Skins may have been sending the signal that it is tiem for Big Daddy to move elsewhere.

Says the offers were changing every thirty minutes.

That statement tells me more and more that they didnt really want Big daddy back and encourages me even more that the big reason here is for room to get Champ done.

So you think they actually cut BD to make room to sign Champ?

Yup I do. Cerrato hinted at that as well.

Man sounds like BD is doing the stupid thing and making comments he might have to take back.

Again, I'm a diehard Champ guy, but is he going to gain 150 lbs and move up against a center/guard combo? Big Daddy may have been suspect, but he was the only worthly clogger we had. Some of that extra money has to go to a suitable replacement.

If this is indeed to resign Champ for the long haul then I'm fine with it. I just hope the FO guys know what they are doing.....

If there is anyone with a functioning cerebrum in the Redskins front office, this move was made after receiving assurances that another defensive tackle of equal or greater value will soon be headed to Washington.

That could be why the deal kept changing on Wilkinson. The Redskins would be playing for time and trying to put off any settlement with Wilkinson until they had someone else on the hook. Of course, that's all speculation, but it makes sense to me.

Wilkinson knew he was on the way out. Coming off his worst year, he's the 8th best player on the defense eating the highest cap space on the Team. He shows up in great shape? When has that happened before? He knew he was in a "contract year".
He's been making these "bitter" statements at least since the spring that I can remember. Burning bridges are we? Wish he was that aggressive during the games. AND, chaotic is the way his end looks-changing agents at the last minute, not having a plan or an option ready...

How about we evaluate the talent we have and take it from there? Just about any "established" DT is old and overpriced or they are young and it would take multiple picks to pry them away. No name players make names for themselves by being put into a situation. Around the league former 1st round picks aren't the only guys who play DT.

Let's take a look in camp at some of the young guys. There could be a diamond in the ruff. Either way, you know the FO will be looking to see if anyone of merit gets dropped.

BD was a wildcard. He could come in and play well or he could play like last year, injured and complaining. Personally i think this is a good move for the team... especially the younger players who actually want to bust their arse out there.

I am sure BD never thought he would get cut, but he did and he said himself it caught him off guard. I do question why the FO waited till now to cut him

It makes perfect sense to me for the FO to wait this long. First, it devalued Wilkinson. Every day gone by was another closer to the season, one fewer to learn another system on another team and therefore one more step towards making any other offers he would recieve lower. Second, it would simultaneously devalue any possible replacements. Instead of an obvious, blatant need on the line, the FO could simply talk with a few potential signees and say, "We may be replacing Wilkinson in the future, we'd like to sign you as a backup in case that happens." That way, if the demands were too high, the FO simply say that they still had BD, so there was no need to pay that much, they could just stick with him. If, as Spence suspects, a deal has already been hammered out with someone, then keeping Wilkinson would definitely make it less of a cap hit.

Having the FO play their cards as intelligently as many here are insinuating would be a dream come true.

Okay, here's the way I see it...call me naive.

Big Daddy is offered a base salary of $2m, with incentives totalling $3.5 millino.

Now THAT's an incentive for a big lug that hid behind Darryl Gardeners coattails last year with just 17 tackles and 0 sacks.

If I were Big Daddy, I would be embarassed to ask for anything close to last year's salary, and prove it by agreeing to a reduced salary and playing for incentives.

But then again, I have some character. Apparently Big Daddy doesn't.

End of rant. LET THE SEASON BEGIN. I CAN'T STAND IT!!!

Anyone know how much his cap hit will be this year and next?

Also, I heard on Sports Talk 980 that he showed up in great shape during the mini camps since he thought he'd be auditioning for a new job after June 1st. Once that date passed he didn't show up for another session since he felt his job was secure.

Why does everyone keep talking about BD like he was pro bowler? We will not miss him. Give the young guys a chance!

No, robert, he is not a pro bowler, but he was the best we had....

Michael Westbrook and Albert Connell were once the best WRs we had. I'm not gonna tag him with them fellers rep but, he was never worth the cap space he ate. The opportunity cost in other player potential will now be freed as well.

the funny thign is that cerrato said that big daddy will be welcomed back if doesnt find what he was looking for. does that mean that the FO is not looking forward and not looking for a capable replacement (another starter, not backup)? or will they just wait around and fly by the seat of their pants?

I think they were just keeping the options open. Its smarter then burning bridges.
