Theismann's an offensive guy and he wasn't impressed with that play calling, but JG , even though he baffled me with it, knew something of the limitations, still of Thrash, not all the way ready yet, apparently. Hopefully he should have full speed next week. We also go little from Cooley on production. That allowed a far faster secondary to converge on any receiver and double Moss.
We also have to keep in mind that Brooks and Quarles are the secret recipe to make the D go behind the line. They're knack is getting medium range destruction of offenses, so JG was keeping them chasing plays or forcing them to move then go where they cleared out. It was easier for me to say the play was bad, when in fact, that is how fast TB really is. Seattle's D isn't even close to that.

Theismann just seemed like he was rooting for Tampa Bay. The way he talked about TB and how they could get in scoring position.......Joe seemed very biased and in favor of Tampa Bay. It really doesn't matter though because he is not on our current team and he has no effect on it. So, I just see him as a commentator and nothing more.

Yes, our offense was dreadful tonight. I'm very thankful for the W. But Theisman was clearly pulling for the Bucs. Maybe he can land a job with Doug Williams in the FO.

Someone brought this up in the game thread and I said he's just being an unbiased boardcaster for their national game. ESPN doesn't want a homer calling a game on national TV.

I agree. I don't get the criticism. Maybe he went a little overboard on Simms, but the Tampa offense was the only one doing much of ANYTHING as far as the quarterback position goes. And he did make some great plays and shows a lot of promise. He seemed really positive about the Redskins defense when it counted, too, so I think he was just trying to fill up time or something.
Then again, towards the end of the game, I had the radio broadcast on and turned the tv down, so maybe he said something towards the end that I didn't hear....

Joey T has always gone overboard when trying not to show favorites, so much so, he shows nearly or no love. At least the Riggo commentary can be brutally honest and for the most part, he lets it fly. Joey T acts like the ratings will drop if he says anything positive consistently.

Walt Harris vs. Joey Galloway: "Thats just unfair"
Lemar Marshall vs. C. Williams: "Thats just unfair, him trying to tackle Williams"
Thats bullcrap. I was so sick of him saying how our defense was so mismatched to their offense, I was about to puke.

Obviously Mike you are entitled to your opinion. It just seems a little over the top. Theismann won a SB for us, led us to another and won countless games for us. The Tampa defense was dominant today. Look at the stats. Look how bad they made our offense look. We were fortunate and blessed to win today. Yes our defense came through for us today, but that doesn't make any of what he said wrong. He can't just root for the Redskins as a broadcaster because he played for them.

btw...who are the idiots saying that Simms played well? Did Tampa win? No they lost because of turnovers and as a wise man (Gibbs) said...you win as a TEAM.
So what if the defense carried us today? That's how a good team becomes a great team...one side picks up the pieces if the other side is down.
Joe T. really adores the Redskins, which is why he tries so hard not to let it show when he's calling one of their games. He is always hard on the Skins like you'd be hard on one of your children, and he gets proud when they do well. You think he wasn't happy after this win tonight?

We are not talking about Phil Simms. That's what makes Theismann a better broadcaster than Phil Simms too. Theismann doesn't allow his personal feelings to override how he calls a game. If anything, he overcompensates for it to avoid the appearance of favoritism. He must be doing something right, he held the same job for 19 years, and the way ESPN likes to fire good commentators for a flavor of the month, that's saying something.

That is by far the worst crew in the NFL. They make so many horrible mistakes, and almost every opinion they have is stupid.
I remember watching last year when Theismann decided that for a change he would actually criticize somebody. He decided that wr Darrell Jackson of the Seahawks was playing terribly, and not giving full effort. By the end of the game Jackson had 11 catches, 200 yards, and 2 td's.

At one point I think Simms was 16 of 18 and made some incredible scrambles to avoid sacks and made some clutch throws. I personally think he was deserving of the praise. I agree with you that Joe has shown some bias this season. That is why he picked the Redskins to win the NFC championship earlier this year and picked the Redskins to win this week on the ESPN website. Joe has shown more loyalty to the Skins this year that any year I can recall since he stopped playing. With that said I still think he is an arrogant jerk.

I had the chnace to follow the game yesterday and the abc broadcast. yes they kept talking about TB, but they were trailing and I think that for the dynamic of the game broadcast it was good to insist on what TB was doing. Nevertheless, maybe our D could have been shown a little more love.

C'mon, "that's not fair" is a rip? That's just sort of slang, like when a linebacker is asked to cover Antonio Gates downfield, or a 5-10 corneback is one-on-one with Jerome Bettis. Saying it's "unfair" that a linebacker be asked to not be faked out by Williams in the open field is just sort of saying "it can't be expected that he will not be faked out".

I watched the game with Big Country last night and he will testify to how many times I commented on the brown nosing the ABC crew were doing last night. I am watching the re-run now, and they have given very little praise to our D, it is like we are not on the field. .
I do not expect credit for our offensive performance, frankly it was awful.
However I expect a big deal to be made of a Defense playing on the road, giving up ten points, under three hundred yards, causing three turnovers, stopping a team twice on fourth down, all this with injuries to key personnel.
They also took the big Tampa playmakers out of the game, the Cadillac averaged 2.7 ypc. Also Joey Galloway never got the chance to truly hurt us. This was the story of the game for me. That should have been shouted about, it simply was not by the ABC crew.
That said Joe T was still a good player for this team and when he can he is positive about the team.

You are absolutely right. I didn't realize it until you wrote this, they didn't give any real credit to our Defense. They talked about how good Simms and Caddy were, and even Galloway, Ike, and Sheppard. If Rogers hadn't been tackling Sheppard in the endzone, it would have been a tied game. Our defense was amazing and got no credit during the game.

Yes there was a definite love-fest going on for Chris Simms but this is my take. Phil Simms and Thiesmann are both former QB's that are in broadcasting. I don't think they've ever worked together but I would imagine they have had plenty of chances to rub elbows and get to know each other. They're probably friends so Thiesman has probably been watching Chris Simms play for 6 years now going back to Texas. You root for you buddy's son. I think for Thiesmann it's personal with the Simms and he deliberately used that as a way to try and not be such a homer. There seems to be a lot of pressure on the Sports media to not be a homer. Anyway, it was annoying because Chris Simms played well but not great. He might be the next Aaron Brooks if he's lucky.

Like many people here I get pretty annoyed with Theismann and his commentaries. But....I believe he was probably over-compensating a little too much, because he's been accused of being a homer (especially lately). With the Skins lack of offensive production last night, and the excellent play of TBs defensive unit, Theismann leaned to talking positively about Tampa. Theismann is the one who predicted the Super Bowl for the Skins, when no one would dare say that, personally, I don't take offense to last nights comment.
We've got a new game this week and it should be great.

I dont take offense either but I think ppl jus wish that we had some praisers in the media the way the Cowboys do with Irvin, Aikman, etc.. and Philly always gets love from their former QB(forgot his name works for ESPN). We dont have that the closest TV personality we have to that is Schlereth(i think his name is works for NFL Live occasionally on ESPN) We jus want someone to stand up for us in the media.

I think the guy sitting next to Joe T. I forget his name ?, Well seemed like he wanted tampa to win it . Seemed down on us at times. Even with a great defensive out put.

Joke? we shouldnt have won this game if we didnt have such a good defense, joe actually did do a great job.
If I hear one more stupid comment like this I'm hurting someone. If we didn't have a good defense? Good lord!

Once again. It was not one single moment. It was through out the game.
You guys have you opinions. And I guess I can have mine.
Didn't Theismann actually refer to the Redskins as "we" at one point before correcting himself or am I mistaken?

I don't like him either. Thanks for bringging us the Lombardi Trophy now get out!
Come on now. Joe T. played for us from 1974 till LT(onCOKE) broke his leg. He is a true REDSKIN, he supports this organiztion and Joe Gibbs. And I don't know if you remember, but he was here so long that he played with Sonny and Billy. Joe T. use to return punts also. He is the 3rd best QB this franchise has ever had behind Sonny and Sammy Baugh. I don't care if he was up Chris Simms Butt, because he likes to see guys control an offense. Brunell did nothing yesterday.
So get off Joe's case, he supports the Skins, he picked us to go to the SuperBowl this year....

No one is doubting his lenience to the Skins, we are talking about how bad his commentating is. He sounds like a freaking moron most of the time. He is protecting his image as a sportscaster, but how much can you ignore such obvious things like the whole defense.

I liked Joe T's Commentating, since im a skins fan I can relate to some of the stuff hes talking about and if he ever gets canned many are saying that hes gonna go to WJFK.

Man – What a crazy thread but it’s typical because it involves Joe T.
Here’s my two cent on the matter (and not that it means anything so don’t get in a uproar):
First, let's jump all over JT because he was telling like it was yesterday...... actually he really held back about Tampa IMO because they were the only one doing anything good or bad worth talking about in the second half. .............OH wait a minute ....... I forgot WE did set a new playoff record ......... LEAST amount of offensive yardage and STILL win the game. YIPEE!!!!!
Second ............. Did any one see the interview on COMCAST with Thiesmann before the game. To say his heart isn't with the Skins - well you're just fooling yourself. He's very much a Redskin and will always be. NOW if there are some things he's get frustrated with about with the team/organization them ........OH WAIT A MINUTE ..... NO ONE on this board gets that way - I forget. ................. And along those lines - WHO'S the only one in the media that predicted the Skins going to the Superbowl. ......... YEAH that's RIGHT - Joe Thiesmann
THIRD ............. I don't hear anyone jumping into Mark Mays case OR Riggins (for that matter )when they have negatives to say about our team (AND I heard they both on numerous occasions). BUT I guess that's OK, huh – we’ll look the other way for them.
LASTLY - IF I'm not mistaken (which can happens quit often), Thiesmann just scored one of the premiere commentator jobs NFL. Monday Night Football / ESPN . IMO that means he one of the better personalities in the business and he needs to remain neutral about teams regardless. This is not a easy thing to do IF you’ve been involved with a team you had great success with - at least I would think! So maybe he has to sway a little towards the other team so he’s not considered bias.
To be honest – I could care a less if you like him or hate him. Everyone is entitled to the opinion. BUT I don’t think he was having a love fest with Simms yesterday. Basically, the development of Simms and a tough defensive battle (on both sides) was the story line to that game. And personally whether I agree or disagree with Thiesmann when he’s commentating - I rather listen to him then 90% of those others guys (gals).

...as a Redskin.
From this day on, I'll know use of that scumbag.
I know he's trying to neutral. But he went way overboard tonight.
Wow Mike.

I loved the way Simms played ... don't rag Joey T for complimenting him so much ...
I especially loved the way Simms threw carelessly over our Samoan Skin who got his hands on yet another Simms pass attempt ...
Simms killed their chances ... in the end ... and often enough through the game ... played like a incomplete package ...
I think Joe is trying to make sure the Bucs dont replace him with someone good ... improving the Skins chances next year
way to go Joe

Joey T and the rest of those guys always suck up to whatever player is doing well at the time. They do it every game, so don't be offended. Anybody old enough to remember Howard Cosell. He'd sneeze and everyone would say he was anti-Skins. JT pales in comparison.

He was obviously trying too hard to be unbiased. I did end up muting him. But I know in his heart he is a Redskin.

i've noticed that too, i think he goes out of his way to prove that he is not biased. i think he has to do that, or else he'd be out of a job. but i think everyone knows he believes in whatever Joe Gibbs is doing.

As I told a GibbsGirl, that is what I believe (he's forever B and G) and I just muted him. I wanted to concentrate on my chants, prayers and nail biting :)
