Skinsinator, I never said I thought it wasn't going to be close.
Silverspring, you are right -- we have to really step up if we are going win this one.

Frankly guys, I don't know what to expect. The game can go in almost any direction. The one thing I would mention as a word of caution to you guys is the crowd. I know Fedex holds 20+ thousand more than Qwest does, and I know Fedex can rock. But because of that, I think, you underestimate just how loud it can get at Qwest. We wouldn't have won our game against the Giants had it not been for their 11 false start penalties, caused in large part by the crowd.

Frankly guys, I don't know what to expect.I applaud you for your honesty at least. Games of this magnitude can go either way. I wouldn't want to face a team off a bye who is undefeated at home. In the same sense, I wouldn't want to face a coach who has 3 super bowl victories and has an outstanding playoff record. That's why the games are played on the field.

And as I mentioned eariler in this thread, outside of that game, the Seahawks have gotten more false starts penalties called on them at home than their opponents. That's not much of an advantage. And the redskins have played extremely disciplined, even in much louder stadiums like Arrowhead, Mile High, Lincoln Field, Texas Stadium etc etc.

Aren't the Giants one of the teams most penalized for false starts regardless of Seattle's crowd noise? I don't have any stats, but it seemed to me as if they'd jump at the sound of a needle hitting the grass.

Also, where is this of Seattle's crowd noise talk coming from? Not once had I heard anything about the crowd in Seattle being intimidating until midway through this season. It's as if it stems from an inferiority complex possessed by a bunch of Seahawk fans who then proceed to start this rumor about how tough it is to play in seattle because of those oh so crazy fans, and these fans know they can get away with starting the rumor because they know that no one is going to bother to watch a Seahawk home game to verify it.

Good point BlueTalon. I read where alot of the Giants players said after playing in Qwest that it was the loudest stadium they have played in. Don't you guys lead the league in false start penalties caused? Also, is it true Seattle has retired jersey #12 in honor of the 12th man?

BTW, welcome!

"Storytellers, yes its true. I heard of a mystical entity once, being more of a wave, but never a wimper of crowd noise. I know of no crowd noise and certainly it should have been heard by Sir San Francisco, and of Ms. Los Angeles, certainly it would.

Now we must discover this for ourselves, but many have been known to show up as a force for us, as an entourage, if you will. Legend has it that this is called a 12th man, he even can make himself into spirits and grab hold of the numbers, lighting them on the jerseys and moving the warriors, I tell you! Soon they are to arrive in the great land of Washington, over the peaks, and in the bay of Seattle, facing the great and wonderous sea of the Pacific.

But noise, no I never heard of any noise of the Seattle Qwest coliseum, not where these great Redskins gladiators go. I have only seen a wave, a friendly one, that only the Redskins players can see."

You mean you actually take your rain parka off? Wow, I thought you only took those off when sitting in the coffee shops trying to look trendy while avoiding the roaming droves of meth-addicted homeless teenagers who infect the parks and alleys of your fair city.

Whats with people bashing the city of Seattle? This is a football game. Actually I've been a Seahawk fan for quite awhile and I can tell you that most of our fans dont live in Seattle. Most of our opponents say Qwest Field is the loudest place they play all year. Maybe its the architecture but it gets LOUD. Maybe we don't have the biggest fanbase but most of the fans in the stands are die hards. It's going to be a real good game.

Seattle is a really nice, underrated city, I'll definitely give it that. In fact it's often the country's better cities like say Seattle, San Fran, or New York that get made fun of the most. You never hear people talk about a place like Houston that is nothing but a dump.

Also, I'm sorry for bashing your fan base, but the fact that you have to defend it says it all. I live in Montana and its pretty much an equal drive to Denver or Seattle from here. There are tons of Seattle transplants here, but the area is 10 to 1 Broncos to Seahawks fans. Even the Seahawk fans that I know hardly knew who were they playing this Saturday. When I mentioned that I wanted to drive to Seattle this weekend not one got excited and wanted to go. If the Skins were playing the broncos this weekend and I was driving down to Denver I would have had to hitch a trailer to my car to fit all the tagalongs.

Man I wish I was there, know the docks, the warf, seafood, the spots, even in Tacoma's "Old Jail club" and the city park, (ok that was back in the day, when I was at Ft. Lewis).

downtown's cool too and I miss those walks about the town with the skyline. It is worth the trip and I wish I was there to share the ride. Hope things turn out ok for the road trip partner.

Well it doesn't look too promising at this point. I was trying to find a high school friend or two to fly out for the game, but that looks like a dead end. I have a few friends in Seattle, but either they aren't football fans or knowing their financial situations, I couldn't reasonably expect them to drop the cash to go (and I don't have the money to spot them).

If this fails I'm committed to flying back to DC for a few days if *knock on wood* the Skins win a few more games. I would go to Detroit, but I have zero desire to spend time there. I think Congress should pass legislation saying the super bowl can only be played in Miami, Arizona, New Orleans, San Diego, Cabo, or in a newly built Las Vegas stadium designed especially for Super Bowls.

Edit: Because honestly, it's absurd to have a super bowl in Detroit. The week before the game is supposed to be biggest balls to wall party of the year and how in the world are people going to have fun when they have to wear parkas and they spend more time thinking about how to not get shot than how to have a good time? It's funny because this year there are going to be no out all night, playing the game hungover, with a little white substance on the upper lip type stories and we'll have quite possibly the two most prepared teams ever in the super bowl seeing as no player in their right mind will leave the pracitice facilities and their hotel rooms.

Ironically, after a fallen market in the auto industry, and some reductions in workforce, Detroit expects to reel in big spenders? Don't count on it, because as Detroit has props up for the game, people like to stretch out a bit, maybe not a zillion miles in the countryside of Michigan. I can think of a dozen spots also. It should help them internally with the economy, about as central as possible, but the other spenders won't show.

Now a fair weather outdoor site would be far different, or even a moderate outdoor location (Carolina, Las Vegas for example, even though folks might get the wrong impression about Las Vegas, it can host big events and then some, for months!

Sure I could cruise to Detroit, but isn't that where they have their fire wilding parties, just because the tv camera's on them?

Aside from our trips back and forth in Oregon, a trip to Vancouver, they made this stop outside of Seattle when we go up there, (was stationed in Ft. Lewis then, in '79). Trying to remember where this spot was, but know it was overlooking the Puget Sound area. I had a picture of it too. My wife even had an assignment there early last year, with her hotel overlooking the Pacific. See if I can get the pictures at least. Man that's reminding me of how old I've gotten, since then. Be back when at work maybe, if not sooner. Gotta ' pick her up now.

Yeah sure we have a ton of bandwagon fairweather fans, but every team does really. Except maybe the Texans. But our true fans are just as good as any other team's we just don't have as many. People don't exactly live and breath football up there in Egypt. Actually we have a ton of fans from the NorCal area.

My contention from the Seahawks game I've gone to is that they are lifeless in the stadium. They've been louder this season, but this isn't like walking into Texas Stadium for a playoff game.

Yeah, my original post kept hangin and I layed on the button too long. Yeah I was up in the Linwood, Lake Washington area, riding around, but we were just curious soldiers, out to have a great time. We kept riding through that part on the way back from a friends spot near Canada and we went to Vancouver one weekend. Too much fun and booze, more like a blur. I remember now the guy telling me Puget Sound isn't the Pacific, but I kept telling him Seattle has enough water so, I couldn't tell the difference.

I take it my wife's stay was in the bay, not out by the Pacific. We been in weedpatch Indiana too long :lol1:

Hey come on everybody is going to say that their stadium is the loudest. You're a Skins fan so obviously you will say the seahawks have terrible fans and Fed Ex is the loudest stadium ever. But I've read a lot of articles this year where opposing teams have said that Qwest is by far the loudest stadium and the fans yell all game long.

The Giants hadn't yet played at FedEx when they commented on QWest. I'd be suprised if they didn't have an a new champion of loudness now that the season is over.

Compared to the yawn factor of the rest of the NFC West, yeah the Seattle fan base is tops right now, but I'm sorry if I can't compare them to the NFC East or other more established and reputable fanbases like GB, the Steelers, KC, or Denver. Not only do these fan bases bring it at home, but they take their act on the road. From what I gather Skins fans were the dominant fan base in both of their NFC West road games this season. Going to AZ was like a home game as was the trip to ST Louis.

Also, just this simple fact alone should quiet any debate: there is a huge waiting list for season tickets for the Redskins who play in a 90000+ capacity stadium. Yes, every game for the next gagillion years is sold out for the largest stadium in the NFL. And it wasn't that long ago that Seahawks games never sold out. Sorry, but your fan base has a long way to go to catch up. So 90000 people in a bowl versus 70000...unless that 70000 has artificial assistance I see no way that they can be louder than a group with 20000 more people and a marching band.

There are times when I'm just watching Fedex field and its too loud to hear people talk in my place. The Dallas game was one of those times. Qwest field was loud for the Giants game, but the rest of the season, it was fairly quiet. I ask you 28beers, how come the Hawks have gotten more false starts than their opponents outside of the Giants game? Are the Hawks fans stupid enough to yell when the Hawks offense is on the field?

Washington, D.C. - A seven-year-old boy was at the center of a Montgomery County courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child
welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Washington Redskins Football Team, whom the boy firmly believes are not currently capable of beating anyone.

And the point of this is what?

That is like the 10th time I have seen that joke posted, with a different city and team almost every time. WEAK!
It really has no relevance from a Seattle fan to use on Skins fans, seeing as how we have already done something you all haven't done in 20+ years, win a playoff game.

We want Seattle!

Yeah it will be a great game. This week is going so slow its killing me. And we do have fans that are maybe a little "over-confident" but you have to look at it from our perspective. 21 years is a long time. And compared to some of those teams this year's looks like the 72 dolphins. But you guys won't just lay down for us so it'll be a fun game to watch even for fans of neither team.

Trust me, not many of us are over-confident. We just think regardless of the outcome, it will be a tough game. We have no pressure, we have already exceeded most expectations, so we will remain proud of this year's team no matter what.

I am surpremely confident that the Skins are going to pummel the seahawks this Saturday. But do you guys know what? As much as being the underdog is going to help us as it always does, being favored as much as they are is going to really hurt the hawks. That's all anyone is talking about and I would be scared if I was a hawk or fan. Washington is REALLY dangerous and the team I would least like to play this weekend along with the pats and colts.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS

Also, this gives us bulletin board material. We won't get big headed either.

LOL, that is one way of looking at it. Or you could say that every year, an underestimated team wins big in the playoffs.

I don't think I've ever wanted to beat another team so bad just to completely devastate their fans as much as I do this weekend. In the past week, I have endured the most annoying, obnoxious, unintelligent, blind, stubborn, and very unpleasant fans than I have ever experienced. Granted, this does not include everyone and those I'm referring to probably don't know who you are. That's the kind of people I'm talking about. They don't even know what their saying and why. I want them to be a smoldering hole in the ground. I want the game to be so close that they can taste a win. And then I want the absolute worse, most unimaginable turn of events on the football field to occur so as to ruin these people's whole year. I don't wish physical injury to anyone except al qaeda, but I want these people's feelings hurt. I can't stand the smack talk that these people have no business making. Luckily for my sanity, hR has been relatively free from these haters and I am grateful.

The Redskins are coming.........

Going back and reading this thread, I was almost dead-on on what would happen. We did turn the ball over, but not Hass. Special Teams were awful, but then again they'd been pretty bad for us all season. The offense put up points, Portis was shut down and it was up to Brunell to keep up. I said you'd need the game of Brunell's life to win this one. He kind of let you guys down. Still, it was a great game, lots of hard hitting on both sides.
