Cowboys | Team Intrigued By Wilkinson - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 30 Jul 2003 11:35:52 -0700
Jean Jacques-Taylor, of the Dallas Morning News, reports the Dallas Cowboys are intrigued by free agent DT Dan Wilkinson, who was released by the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, July 29. But they aren't interested in his massive contract, which is supposed to pay him $17.2 million over the next four seasons, including $3.5 million this season.

Yeah, his 17 tackles last year must have them drooling from the mouth......

I didn't know that he had that much life left in his contract, and since he was released why would they care about that? No one will claim him at that salary. I wish they would to wipe it off our books, but we all know that it won't happen.

Yep... it will stick us for a while...

Yeah those reporters are morons. Once a player is released he has no contract. He was not being traded.
They meant his asking price.

BD is trippin' big time. he isnt going anywhere with a contract proposal like that.

Do we want him back? The offer was there should he change his mind... but I wonder... is that what we want to do?

I wondered the same thing. If he wanted to come back I cannot see them offering him the same $2mil with $1.5 in incentives. Why would they? He would be at their mercy to take an even lower amount.

I think we can't take him back since we want to use the money to resign Champ.....

One of the things I noticed in the stories about Wilkinson was that we ranked #12 in rushing last year---higher than we'd ranked ever before since Wilkinson had joined the team. It was also the year he played the least amount of downs; less than 50% of total downs for the 2002 season.
Hmmmm.

I noticed that also. It doesn't support a real need to have him back, and that is what I read that the team looked at more and more before making their decision.

You know, if he does come back he might feel slighted and not play his hardest for whatever he gets, so I say see Big Daddy.
I have a feeling he will end up in Minny

We ranked 12th last year in large part because of Gardener. When was the last time we really had a dominant DT to stuff the middle?
BD may not be all that helpful, but if he came crawling back and accepted a cheap contract, I'd rather have him up front than Haley. At the very least, he'll clog offensive linemen so Trotter can make a play.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Gardener is the reason for us being ranked at #12....

If he goes to Dallas then at least we know Ramsey won't get sacked and Trung/Betts/Watson/Morton will run wild.

Yeah, but you'd only get that effort from Gardener in the last year of a contract, like last year. Rest assured the Broncos won't get anything like that from Gardener this year.

After the IHOP incident, I tend to think the same. We'll see though. He missed the first game with us last year and then dominated thereafter.
I would take BD back at a lower cost. His comments about wanting to remain in the DC area even after released may lead him to actually come back with tail between legs. He seems to understand the business decision concept of his release and may not stay away out of anger.

Just saw this at masterminds
The Dallas Morning News reports Cowboys scouts looked at film of DT Dan Wilkinson on Tuesday and decided that the former Washington Redskins tackle was too inconsistent and not worth bringing into camp, vice president Stephen Jones said.
what does that say for BD

Big Daddy is not coming back. I don't believe he'll give it his all here if he did come back. His whole career, except for a few seasons has been like that-underachiever-big time.

When the Tuna who is known for loving big guys does not want you...it makes the FO decision look even smarter.

The Vikings are a natural fit. They're desperate and will take any large, warm body to play on the defensive line.
