Enjoy Alex Smith. I'm sure you'll do as well with him as you did with Heath Shuler.....

I just read that. Norv hired Nolan as his DC and now the other way around. What delicious irony.

LMAO. When all else fails? Norv to the rescue. Norv will have his hands full with Dr. Smith. He's gonna look more retartded in a niner uniform than even a cowboy one. Hope he enjoys that pay cut.

Dead bodies along the side of the road the whole way. Well, at least the husks of once were promising careers. ;)
Actually, if you take a took, a lot of Norv's assitants are doing pretty well. Mike Martz and Mike Nolan were/are head coaches and I'd be surprised if Cam Cameron didn't get a head gig this year or next. It's Norv who can't keep a job.

Ahh this is what norv can do. He is a good offensive coordinator, head coach was just too much for him. I think this might work out well for the 49ers.

Man, the Niners are pulling their legs out of quicksand with their face.

Well, I guess we can officially say that the last Bill Walsh fingerprint is off of the organization now. Norv is definitely not a West Coast style of OC.

That is an intersting way to look at. Certainly big changes in san fran. Honestly i was very impressed with what nolan did with the 49ers this year. Last year they were horrible, but not bad like getting better and building to next year bad, like they were just bad and looking worse and worse. They won a couple more games and were in a lot of games up until the end. When you consider that they have such a talent deficit there that it impresses me even more.
Norv is a bum as a head coach, he was always average and was destined to be average, but back when he was just an offensive coordinator i think he was pretty sharp, it will be interesting to see if he still has it.

a match made in hell. :) i think norv should stick to being an OC for the remainder of his coaching career.

Darn. I really wanted Norv to replace Parcells in dallass.

Let's hope it doens't end up like Aikman.

I'm not even convinced that Norv was a great OC.
Could he draw up interesting schemes when he had incredible talent on the roster, like he did with Aikman and the rest of the tadpoles? Yes.
But what about when you DON'T have that kind of talent? That's when you really make the jump to greatness, if you can work with raw talent and mold your schemes around what you have.
I look for San Fran to totally clean house again within 2-3 years. And I'm leaning towards the "2".

Good luck with that Norv. Your really going to need to use your wits when the best player on your offense is Brandon Lloyd.

I don't think Norv is doing this for any other reason but to be working yet not have to move, so that his son can graduate from the same school. Furthermore, the offense can't get any worse, so he will do no more damage to his reputation.

With our luck against ex-Redskin headcoaches I hope not.

I think Norv is a pretty good offensive cordinator, but he has nothign to work with in san fran....

Coach Turner is just another on the long list of those who are better coordinators than head coaches.

This really isn't a good move by Mike Nolan. I understand his OC left to become a head coach, but Norv's offense is not a WCO, which is what McCarthy was running before he left to go to Green Bay.
Now Alex Smith has to learn another offense, his third in three seasons.
What to promote his developement there Mike!
I agree with Kenny, they deserve one another.
