Little help from my friends at hR.

A friend came to visit in Oakland from DC and she forgot to pack her belt. So we went to a Salvation Army to buy a cheap belt to use for the trip. I was looking around while she was trying in belts and found a 70th anniversary Trotter jersey for $3.

I dont own a Skins jersey and thought, what the hell, its $3 and I can always take Trotter's name off (l liked him when he played for the skins, but I'm not wearing his name on my back while he is playing for the Iggles).

Even if i take the name off, it'll still be a Trotter jersey cause its the 70th anniv color/style. But, I was curious if anyone could remember another Skins #54 so I could rep for a player who isnt now a hated rival. Any ideas? Who else on the Skins has worn #54?

I looked on the Skins website plus a few others and could track the answer down.

Thanks.

Thanks Rich and Akh. I knew there was another LB for the Skins who wore #54.

Its odd cause on SI.com and other websites they have him listed as #56. Idiots.

Here is a link with a pic wearing #54.

I found a team photo from the '69 skins with a #54 but I can't figure out who it is.

I'd go with Gouveia if I was you.
I'm actually shocked that there weren't more players with #54.
Most of the "old" teams (see the '37 team pic) didn't have any players with a # over tha mid 40's.
I never noticed that before. I was hoping to find someone really obscure for you but unless I can figure out who had #54 in '69 Gouveia's it.

I know there's gotta be more than that, I'll keep lookin!:stout:

This is totally off topic but check out this picture of Nixon talking to #78 with George Allen in the background. (you have to look about 3/4 the way down and click the pic)

"Nixon took head coach George Allen up on a long standing offer to visit with the team to give them a pep talk....Many of the players were stunned and elated to have the President show his support."

Did you read this?:
Nixon and the Redskins: In 1971, the Redskins, a perennial loser in the National Football League, were winning and looked like they might make the playoffs for the first time since World War II. On November 21, the team lost a home game to the Dallas Cowboys, 13-0. Redskin fans booed the players during the game.
Very interesting.
BTW, what kind of beverages are you enjoying? The specialty of Seacrets, the Pain-in-de-___ or the Rum Rummer?

LMAO!

Right now it's potato vodka (Luksusowa) from Poland.
The Wine Advocate gave it a very high score and it's about the same price as Absolute.
Tasts purdy; but it makes it hard to type:drunker:

Same link, did you read this one. (Very funny)

The Redskins made the playoffs but lost in the first round to the San Francisco 49ers on December 26. During the game, Allen used a play that he said Nixon had designed. Nixon never actually designed the play, but allowed Allen to tell the team that he did in effort to energize them. The effort was too clever by half; the play resulted in a loss of yards.

Allen was ALL about the psychological aspects; very superstious. (SP?)

The funny part is "The effort was too clever by half; the play resulted in a loss of yards"
Very WaterGate-esque.

I believe so, I think he was the special teams coach, which was an innovation of George Allen. Nobody else had a designated special teams coach back then.

You mentioned it before and I remembered because I have spent quite a few drunken times there. Nice place, I'll probably be up there sometime this summer.

I have an old Press Guide from 2000, that's why my list only goes through Greg Jones. There may have been a player to wear 54 between Jones and Trotter.

Oh, I just thought of another:

David Brandt, undrafted by Marty Schottenheimer in 2001. Started the season opener at guard.

He retired before the start of 2002 and later tried to get back in the league, I think we traded his rights to Detroit if I remember correctly.

Back to the topic, it looks as though Gouveia is the best player to wear #54 for the Skins.

My last name is Caldwell, which would have been great had it been #50 - Ravin Caldwell's number.

I'm about 5'3 and 130, and never played any level of football (other than backyard), so that story wont be very believable.
