I know there is a lot of people on the Reggie Wayne bandwagon and I haven't seen it posted anywhere so I figured I'd throw it up. Yesterday on ESPN Countdown they were talking to Chris Mortenson who said Indianapolis has made resigning Reggie Wayne the #1 priority over Edgerrian James. He also said he has recieved word that the Colts will use there franchise tag on Wayne to make sure he doesn't go anywhere in the offseason and are willing to let James walk for nothing to keep Wayne.
So this looks like Wayne may possibly be out of the picture and if not it is going to take A LOT of money to make the signing possible.

i hope we can find a way to get him here without spending a lot of money. it says here in this article that moss wouldnt mind that happening.
http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/teams/report/WAS/9179522
Wayne, who caught a career-high 83 passes this season, roomed with Redskins Pro Bowl receiver Santana Moss at the University of Miami.
"We've worked together before - we'll be friends forever," Moss said. "If that was a thing they went and did, it would be great for the team. I know he could do big things."
i thought this was kind of funny:
Running back Clinton Portis carried 385 times in 18 games but still headed home to South Florida without any major injuries.
"The only medicine I need is rest," Portis said, adding as a joke, "I just hope nothing goes wrong when the skydiving tournament starts."

We couldn't afford him anyway, we will have the cap room for moderate FA spending.

Excellent! I don't want Reggie Wayne. Never have, and never will. Over priced WR.

Wayne is going to get a ton of money from someone, probably Indy. It won't and shouldn't be the Redskins. Wayne will get paid like a #1 receiver. Maybe he is a #1, but we don't know that. What we do know is that we've already got a #1 wideout and we can't afford a second one. The Redskins need to go looking for good #2 wideouts -- and pay them accordingly.

I couldn't agree with you more Spence. We have a proven #1 in our system already with Moss, and there is no need to overpay another potential #1. We need a strong, tall, solid #2 that can get us the 1st downs when needed in traffic using his body.

Well I still want Reggiw Wayne, but if the Colts tag him, that is it. I do not want to pay a high price AND give up compensation for him. I think the Colts are nuts to go after Way ne over James, because they already have Marvin Harrison and Stokley.

This is the best news I have heard all day (but it has been a slow day). I don't want Wayne at 1/2 the money I think he'll get.

Ditto ... I don't think he's our answer, he comes from an entirly different system and would have a big transition to our style of O IMO.

I dont think Edge likes Peyton. I remember a year or two ago, Edge saying something about it not being one big happy family in Indy.

I think it was b/c Peyton was publicly critical of James for not working out with the team (ala Sean Taylor and many of the other "U boys"). Frankly, I don't blame Manning one bit.

if indy lets edge go, they'll be making a mistake. they have a ton of valuable UFA's and i wonder how they are going to sign them all.

Honestly at this point, getting TO is more realistic than getting Wayne... and the idea of having TO play in the burgundy and gold has snow ball's chance in hell.

We will see what happens to Peyton and Indy when they choose Wayne over James and have NO running game...
I can hear the phone conversation between Favre and Manning:
(Peyton) What do I do when they only rush three and it seems like there are 1,000 people in pass coverage because they don't respect the run?
(Brett) Well, I usually just cry myself to sleep and think of retirement...but hey, look on the bright side...you're a Manning, go b*tch at the press and demand a trade!

The Colts run game will be just fine without James. They'll draft a RB in the first round and he'll run for 1200 yards and 10 TDs and they'll be just fine.

That's my thought as wel whitskins...easier to find a RB than it is a QB or WR...

That's how I feel as well. Wayne and Harrison put so much pressure on opposing defenses that average is all that's needed at RB.

Good point -- if they keep both WRs then they can't put 8 in the box to stop the RB so whoever is their RB should do OK.

I agree if they get a running back in the draft he'll do great with that passing game keeping D's back...also Rhodes filled in nicelyfor edge a few years ago...

Patten is already on the roster (#2).
What we need is a dynamic #3. How about that UFA from KC, what's his name, Boerigter? 6-3, 220lbs. Al Saunders should know him. We should know pretty soon by March 1st if Al recommended him.

Patten is also pretty old. I'd say go after someone younger and make Patten that dynamic #3, sort of like he was in NE. I know thats why he came here, so he can be a #2, but he really didn't show a whole lot other than being able to draw coverage away from Santana.

Get a stud #2 and put Patten at #3 and I believe you will see a new David Patten. He would get so much less attention that getting open for him should be much easier with his speed. It's also his natural position. This is another reason I'm so excited about getting a quality real #2.

I'm not suprised at this at all. A big portion of the league thinks RBs are a dime a dozen, and the colts are part of that. They'll have Wayne back over Edge. And they won't think twice about it until week 8 or so.

Wayne is good folks but Edge is more valuable to the Colts and this news is fairly surprising out of Indy. Wayne would nice to have in DC but its not like he's Jerry Rice in his prime. The media and fans are going to nicely ensure he gets a fat contract soon.

I think the Colts need Wayne; Harrison only has a couple of good seasons left in him and Stokely is not a good #2. The Edge can be replaced effectively through the draft. They are definitely wise to hang on to Wayne.

I don't know that i can Fully blame the Colts on this one, Harrison is a great reciever but he's 34 going on 35 and Stokley will never be anything but a #3 and he's 31....them signing Wayne over Edge just shows that they're looking toward the future at WR where they have no else in a short while. It also makes it clear that like most of the league the think that quality RB's are easy to find.

I have a feeling that if he goes to a team and becomes their #1 reciever, then he'll become the next peerless price

I feel the same way, but if he were to go somewhere where there is aleady a #1, such as Moss, then both would thrive.
