Boy, Champ is telling them like it is:
Champ Bailey
Q: What are your thoughts on your contract talks?
A: I'm pretty optimistic about everything getting done soon. It's all about them giving me what I deserve, and what I'm worth, and it's not going to be a little.

No kidding Mike. But, what he said is the truth. I like the fact that he tells it like it is. No BS, just the facts. He is the most underpaid CB in the league right now. Has he sat out? No. Why? Because he's a better person than that.
Champ, you're all pro person too!

I agree with him keeping it real and all but I read somewhere yesterday that Champ said if Randy Moss can get an $18 million signing bonus and he has to guard him, then he deserves an $18 million signing bonus too. Now I love Champ but how could we hammer out a deal with a signing bonus like that.
No doubt he's the man, but my goodness.....

Agreed on all accounts CarMike. Let's just hope the FO comes clean with their initial offer.

I like Champ's optimism of getting this done. I believe he wants a reasonable offer for his value with a big bonus, but will want it structured so he won't be a potential cap casualty in a few years (like Lavar's current deal). Champ seems like he wants to be in Washington a long time, at least I hope so.

yep, no low balling.
Luv, They'll probably try to get him to sign a 10 year contract...thats the way they normally handle things like that.

Yeah-that is a little steep. Champ is the man, but it takes 21 other guys to win a game too and if the skins end up paying that much and go over cap, champ better be able to block, throw, run, and stuff the run as well for all that dough. Now, if the skins can do it without hurting the cap, go for it. Aint my money.

$18 mil? Ugh. Big time numbers here. It does sound like he wants it done, though, so that's good.

Q: Was Rob Johnson limited today?
A: He's got a little tender elbow, so we held him out from throwing today.
Already. Simply incredible.
Q: Do you still want to play offense?
A: Oh yeah. I always want to play offense. I always want to get the ball in my hands.
Hmmm.... I heard Gruden's trying out Ronde Barber on a few offensive plays. I wonder if Spurrier might try that with Champ.

I think an $18 million signing bonus is not out of the question. Heck, they gave Coles $13 million and Coles has never been to a Pro Bowl. Champ's been to three of them.
We can handle an $18 million signing bonus. You just make the annual salaries small, especially in the early years of the contract. And you make it a long-term contract--something like ten years or so. Champ's only 25 so it isn't unrealistic at all for him to play another seven or eight years. Don't be scared off by big signing bonuses. They're a bad idea if you give them to old guys [like $8 million for Deion], but not a bad risk if you give them to younger guys who are still getting better [like Champ].
I don't see a problem here. Champ is the best player on the team. The Redskins CANNOT let him get away. He's young so a long-term contract is not such a risk. If it took an $18 million signing bonus to keep Champ on the team, I wouldn't hesitate to make the deal.

they can spread 18 mil over a few years, cant they? whatever it takes, they need to make champ a lifelong skin. i do hope that they are keeping guys like lavar and sameuls in mind when they look at the cap numbers in the future.

I agree if Coles can get 13 Champ can get 20 if he wants and you know Snyder will do what it takes. The bad thing is this, if Champ gets 18 mill SB what will LaVar want

It's not a good sign when they only ask you about the food.

It is very obvious that Champ has the potential and the character to become the next DG... and I surely hope the FO treats him well... he is all class.
