For me it was a toss up between Washington and Marshall. Both played great and consistent. I picked Washington because whenever we needed a play to be made he was there. I could have just as easily gone with Marshall for the same reason.

Marcus Washington made more plays more consistenly then every player on defense. He is my MVP.

Washington easily. He was robbed by the NFL. Got into the pro bowl last year and had better stats this year.

I expected Taylor and Washington to be great this year, so I had to pick Marshall. I just have vivid memories of him getting beat in coverage every play last year, and he has really improved and taken huge steps forward in being the MLB and playcaller. Everytime he makes a play it is like some kind of plesant suprise.

To me, this is a "No contest" vote. Defensestarts up friont and IMO it is not a coincidence that we played better with big #96 in there. Without him we looked pathetic and lost to some weak teams.

My vote goes to Cornelius Griffin!!

Voted for Washington with nods going to Marshall, Taylor, and Griffin.

gotta go with the team name, washington. he was a stellar, consistent player all year. not to mention a huge reason we made it to seattle.

Marcus Washington. However, if Griffin had played all year, as MW was able to do, I might have voted for him.

It has to be Marcus, he had the best year on the defensive side of the ball IMO. I was shocked that he didn't make the pro bowl. He IS our leader on D.

Marcus Washington could be 1a and Cornelius Griffin a 1b selection. Marcus was so damn consistent in the plays he made and the leadership he exhibited. Griffin is the guy we missed the mosy when he wasn't in the line-up.

I would say most outstanding player is Marcus Washington. Most Valuable Player is Cornelius Griffin. So MW gets the vote.

This might be the easiest poll yet. Marcus Washington makes not only this defense GO but also the whole team.

It was hard to not vote for MW but when Griff was in the game we were a whole different team.

I went with Marcus, but if the question was MVP of the defense and not Player of the year, my answer would've been Cornelius Griffin.

exactly. Griffin was a standout too but those nagging injuries keep him off the field too much . Washington seemed unstoppable this year.

I am really shocked this is such a runaway poll.

Face it smoak.:) This defense would be in shambles without Marcus. He also hasn't missed a game since he's been here. I will fear for our team if we ever do have to see him out of the line-up.

On the other hand, Cornelius is also invaluable for our defense but has been known to miss a couple games. He draws a lot of attention away from our other pass rushers and makes them better but I don't feel he has the impact that MW has. Teams don't even want to run to his side. He swallows up everything in his path.

washington is a great player to have on your team but i would bet we could get by w/o him for a couple games if we had to. We learned this year we could not win or come close without Griffin.

Hands down Griff..is our MVP.

I think your reasoning is very wrong. How would you know that we could get by without Marcus? He hasn't missed a game since he's been here. Meanwhile, I'm not sure which games Griffin has missed or not missed and what the result of those games were, but I wouldn't bet that we have never won without him. Stat master, Help!

Edit: We beat Philadelphia 17-10 at FedEx without Cornelius Griffen. Your argument is incorrect.

I just do not agree that Washington is the best player on the team and I do not think anyone is irreplaceable... But Griff might be the most irreplaceable given the current roster.

That is a really good point and an important distinction I didn't make... I still might vote Griff, but it is not a lack of respect for MW. I love the guy! I just think GW could plug in any good LB and make him look great.

I am not sure abouty everyone's criteria for MVP but I will explain it to you plain and simple this is an average defense without Cornelious Griffen. And an excellent one with him. Can't tell you what kind of defense it is without Washington because he hasn't missed a game. But this team can really be ran on without Griffen.

I agree that Griffin is definitely one of the key players on the defensive side fo the ball.

Who do we have to back up Marcus Washington if he went down? It doesn't look good.

Don't put Washington at a disadvantage just because he is durable. That doesn't make any sense.

And I guarantee you this defense could be run all over without Washington.

This poll is Defensive Player of The Year, not MVP of the defense. Griffin pretty much missed 5 games, so that cancels him out in my opinion.
Our best defensive player for the year was Marcus Washington.

No one specifically stands out to me so I voted for Griffin because there was a noticeable difference in the play of the entire defense when he is in the game and when he is out of the game.

Wow, so many to choose from, but I had to choose Marcus Washington here. Lemar Marshall is a strong candidate, but Washington was all over the place and made monster plays all year long.

I too voted for Washington, but several of these guys really stepped up. Griffin continues to play great when he's in there, and I was really impressed with Marshall and his big plays toward the end of the season.

I'll take Sean Taylor. He developed and greatly affected the field of play.
He changed games this season. Crayton's demolition, the two td's down the stretch, 4th3 and 1 at arizona. I know its a bit of a stretch, but I like the kid.

Lemar Marshall. Everyone was worried about him filling AP's shoes in the preseason and he stepped up big time. I'm looking forward to see this guy next year with a full season at MLB under his belt.

Tough call between Griffin and Washington in my mind, and even though he missed a few games to injury, I voted for Griffin. He is a difference maker for us and it is very noticeable when he is not in there.

MW is the pulse of our Offence, he sets the tone which is none stop, he is amazing.......Griff is great and him and Sal work well together.......our secondary is fantastic Springs and Rogers will be the best tandam of CBs in the league next year and ST-what can I say- he is a monster and I really hope this court thing works out quick and he gets his head on stright.
I voted a MW and am not at all suprised that he is running away with this poll even though we are loaded with talent

I went with Marshall, with Washington as a second, because the MLB has to hold together everyone on the defense and make sure people are getting on their assignments. Both had a great year though.

i had to go with griffen for the sheer sake of you could see the difference in our defense of when he was in the game and when he was out. when he was in we were close to dominant and when he was out, we were awfull. you cant say that for any other player

Corny Griffen. When he went down, we could not stop the run. We looked like a different defense than with him in there.

I went with Griffen over washington only because Griffen was the defensive line...period. Without him GWs blitzing schemes were nowhere near as effective. He also seemingly elevated the play of Daniels, Joe S., Wynn, Killings and Evans singlehandedly. Washington was great and was snubbed by the Pro Bowl this year but Griffen was my MVP on D.
