View Full Version : Right Track/Wrong Track Poll

We're all familiar with those polls that ask people if they think the country is on the right track or the wrong track. Since we just had the State of the Union address, I thought this would be a good time to ask this question.

Nobody will be forced to confess their vote, but since this is a web board and discussion is our bread and butter, you should reveal your vote anyway. You're not going to be chucked into any secret prisons [though HR is working on that for the future], so let's have a good discussion.

I voted wrong track. I did so because of the war in Iraq, gigantic budget deficits, the new Medicare benefit is an unqualified disaster, and the country is bitterly divided over a host of issues which are not being resolved.

I usually vote in these polls and run away, but since you talked about bread and butter, and I AM very hungry...

I said right track. I look at things on a personal level. Call me selfish if you want, but I'll bet most Americans also view things on a similar level. I think the economy has slightly turned around, there hasn't been a terrorist attack on US soil in over 4 years, and life is good for me.

Wrong track. We have a huge deficit, less jobs, a war that will never end, less rights, a divided country and we are no safer today than we were on 9/10/01.

I voted right track. Not because I think things are great but because I think they are, well, back on track.

Despite the 'skins making the playoffs and NHL being back on the ice, that wasn't enough to get me change from "Wrong Track". Don't get me wrong, both of those things are good, but not quite enough to make up for things like the hornet's nest we stirred up in Iraq, the 2000+ dead American soldiers, the widening gap between the rich and poor in the US, Osama still at large and other things as well.

Now if the Wild make the NHL playoffs, that might be enough to change my vote.

I just can't vote right track with an enemic economy and a war without end overseas. What's old is new again, hello 1970.

I wasn't constructing an argument. Whats the point? You think things are getting better. I think that notion is absolutely hilarious. So I Laughed MAO.

A bit of both: Wrong track with no real alternatives being presented-clearly at least.

Continued division and no progress towards reconciling that alone = wrong track, not to mention anything else going on.

Wrong track. We have a huge increasing deficit that used to be a surplus, underfunded overcrowded school systems, no intelligent life found anywhere in our health care system, an administration that lets the energy barons write their own laws, environmental rollbacks (also demanded by big donor corporations), WV coal mine owners that got to change the rules so they can make themselves more money- and the miners less safe. Corporate corruption is on the rise; civil rights are being eroded.

We're blessed with a new Supreme Court that may divide the country more than it already is, and the worst thing is our democracy has de-evolved into an institution of legalized self-perpetuating quid pro quo exchange of campaign contributions for legislation.

We're living in a country that went to war on a false premise and nobody seems to mind, and now we're rebuilding that country so they can have an election and democratically elect someone that hates our United guts just as much as their former leader that we found hiding in a spider hole who we use to give weapons to and practically installed our selves in the first place to combat the type of fundamentalism that is more prevalent now than it was back then when we liked him.

IMO ....... wrong track and for just about every reason memtioned and maybe a few more both gobal and homeland.

NOW my counter question to this would be ........... For those thinking we're on the wrong track - how long have we been heading in this direction?

For those thinking we're on the wrong track - how long have we been heading in this direction?Good question. On domestic policy, we've been heading the wrong way since early 2001, when the Bush admin decided to cut taxes massively, but never found a way to offset the revenue loss, thus turning the world's biggest budget surplus into the world's biggest budget deficit.

On foreign policy we went off the rails in early 2002, when the Bush admin decided to focus on Iraq rather than finishing the job in Afghanistan by exterminating Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Good post

The hatred that has breeded against this country since the Iraq invasion should not be taken lightly.
When we are getting compared to the British empire and nazi Germany we need to take a closer look at why.

We should not have gone into Iraq..Something I have always said.

We have lost our credibility with the world. Soon we will be faced with a new situation. Either a nuclear Iran, or millitary action faced by world outcry. All because Dubya rushed us into Iraq.
