That happened a year before I was born, but it brings a tear to my eye whenever I see it on those beautifully done NFL Films pieces (when we start steamrolling our competition, they play all of these crazy versions of HTTR. It's amazing.:) ).

Way to make a lot of us feel old.:)

It wasn't McNeal's fault, Riggins already had the first down yardage before the first contact. Not many would have brought him down under those circumstances.

LMAO - Friggin Kids :)

Consider yourself lucky. You got to witness all 3 Superbowls. I took going to the Superbowl once every 3 years for granted. Won't make that mistake again.....

Just one year. You should be lucky that you WERE old enough to watch that. That would have been one of the greatest moments of my life if I could have caught that live.

Put yourself in my shoes. All I know is Redskins mediocrity. I was SO hungry this year in the playoffs. I've tasted blood and I want more. No time like the first time.:)

How many of us 'old' fans ;) have the famous B/W litho of Riggo shedding McNeal, hanging in their house? It is probably my most prized picture in my Redskins room.

No, I just love that picture. I have a similar one of Timmy Smith from SB-XXII and one of Byner in SB-XXVI. I'm not an autograph collecter, I have a few but they are from actually hanging out with those players.

I became a fan through my father in the late 70's, I don't remember specific games but I definitely remember the atmosphere when we played Dallas. Keino is right, there was a time when we missed the playoffs and you just knew we were going the following year.

Trust me, I have a ton of respect for the younger fans. Those of us older than 30 were spoiled. It would have really been tough to become a die-hard fan in the late 90's to present.

If I can blindly follow Norv, I can make it through anthing.

what made the Riggins run and that SB sweet was the pounding they gave Dallas in the championship game. some of you old-timers remember the painful end to the 1979 season when we blew the 13 pt lead to the cowboys late in the fourth qtr. my single toughest sports moment. i think i was up half the night passing blood and i thought we'd never beat Dallas. well, three years later we kicked the snot out of them and won our first SB. So, hang in their all you youngsters-your day will come; maybe as soon as next year.

I went to my first Redskins game in '77. I was 8 and the Skins were playing the Eagles. Joe Theismann and Ron Jaworsky were the QB's and we won, I've been a fan ever since.

I don't know how you guys can remember that far back. I can't remember what happened in some games this year. Sometimes I think I have serious memory problems. Everyone else can remember who their first grade teacher was and I have trouble remembering most of my high school teachers lol.

1979, December games against the Bengals. Ken Anderson at QB...incredible game...let me check my games database that's under development....shhhhh

28-14, 12/9/79. I will never, ever forget walking through the portal and seeing the field for the first time.

I actually became a fan of the Redskins during this game. I was in the 5th grade and hospitalized with an ankly infection that got so bad I almost died. I was in recovery for 6 weeks, 3 weeks in the hospital and 3 weeks at home. During the hospital stay it was superbowl week. I had just started to become really interested in football. Watching the pregame coverage I decided I liked the character of the Redskins (my personal hero I decided was Dave Butz probably because I liked the name). I remember little about the game because of the Tylenol with COdine...but I remember being estatic on 4th and 1 and how happy the team I chose won the Superbowl.

I have been a fan ever since.

I like to remind the LATER DAY Skins Fans of those years, so they understand that when a Lombadi, Gibbs or Allen gets hold of a team, it takes on his identity. True Riggo was as good as it gets ON THE FIELD. A lot of that team was much like the one Gibbs has now. A scrappy, to the end, bunch, that Gibbs KEPT on the roster and they delivered, not just that year (1982, but in 1983 they went right back, avg 30 points a game, to the Superbowl!).

It was no mistake that in all 3 instances, Lombardi, Allen and Gibbs turned the team around, affirming their abilities, but get this and be glad - Joe Gibbs did it TWICE and with NASCAR title to boot!

LOL I liked Dave Butz too as a kid because my name is David.

After reading this article I felt bad for McNeal.

This is a great article, McNeal embraces the play now. He uses it to teach in his youth ministry.

No time like the first time.:)At least I am old enough to remember the Skins beating the Buffalo Bills in the SB, and I wish I could say the same for the 87-88 game but I blame that on my family. Either old Colts fans or not fans at all.
