As you know, President Bush -- like virtually every other Republican in town -- claims he hardly even knew indicted super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Apparently, Mr Jack differs and has sent a bunch of e-mails on the subject:The emails written by Abramoff were addressed to Kim Eisler, the national editor of Washingtonian magazine. The Washingtonian recently reported on the existence of several photographs showing Abramoff and Bush together. Eisler is also the author of Revenge of the Pequots, a book about tribal politics for which Abramoff was interviewed.

In the emails, Abramoff describes meeting Bush “in almost a dozen settings,” and details how he was personally invited to President Bush’s private ranch in Crawford, Texas, for a gathering of Bush fundraisers in 2003. Abramoff did not attend, citing a religious observance.

Abramoff emailed Eisler about his invitation to Crawford and his decision not to attend:

NO, IT WAS THAT I WOULD HAVE HAD TO TRAVEL ON SATURDAY (SHABBOS). YES, I WAS INVITED, DURING THE 2004 CAMPAIGN. IT WAS SATURDAY AUGUST 9, 2003 AT THE RANCH IN CRAWFORD.

The White House has continually downplayed the relationship between Abramoff and President Bush. At a January 26 press conference, President Bush said “You know, I, frankly, don’t even remember having my picture taken with the guy. I don’t know him.”

But according to Eisler, Abramoff told him that the two have met almost a dozen times, shared jokes, and spoke about details of Abramoff’s family:

HE HAS ONE OF THE BEST MEMORIES OF ANY POLITICIAN I HAVE EVER MET. IT WAS ONE IF [sic] HIS TRADEMARKS, THOUGH OF COURSE HE CAN’T RECALL THAT HE HAS A GREAT MEMORY! THE GUY SAW ME IN ALMOST A DOZEN SETTINGS, AND JOKED WITH ME ABOUT A BUNCH OF THINGS, INCLUDING DETAILS OF MY KIDS. PERHAPS HE HAS FORGOTTEN EVERYTHING. WHO KNOWS.Source (http://thinkprogress.org/2006/02/08/exclusive-abramoff-emails/)

So the Abramoff is a dirtbag evidence gets worse and worse. Now he's trying to tie people to himself? What a loser.

People don't like to burn alone and misery loves company. Abramoff doesn't deserve any sympathy, but his motivation is not difficult to understand. He's been a loyal Republican and raised millions of dollars for the party and hundreds of thousands for George W. Bush. He helped them ram legislation thru Congress and develop a stranglehold on K Street. Jack Abramoff was very good for the party for many years and, frankly, didn't do anything the party objected to. The GOP's problem with Abramoff isn't that he broke the law repeatedly -- they knew he was doing that. Their problem with Jack Abramoff was that he got caught.

Of course, Abramoff is an adult and he knew the game going in. He made a ton of money, helped the GOP make a ton of money and get their priorities taken care of. He knew they were with him as long as he kept his name out of the docket and that they'd drop him like yesterday's newspaper if he got caught. He knew all that. But he's not inclined to burn alone, especially if naming names gets him out of prison early. Guys like Jack Abramoff are not soldiers -- they don't fall on their swords.

they don't fall on their swords.
Not unless of course if by swords, you mean big stacks of money.

I actually have an explanation for that. y9ou see Bush does not have a great memory but he has information fed to him by Karl Rove to his earpiece.

Yeah, I've seen that. It seems that they have now perfected the concept of the mindless political figurehead.

The more people he can tie to him the better. I want them ALL to go down in flames. Hopefully, the folks who we elect to replace them will take heed and keep their noses clean when it comes to the K street cash orgy.

Heard on the radio this AM that some of the Bush/Abramoff photos have been published. Can anyone confirm?

Yeah, they're in Time magazine. Have a look and you'll find 'em. Mostly Bush shaking hands with a tribal leader while Abramoff looks on approvingly in the background.

They had better have more that photos with both Bush and Abramoff in them if they're going to take down Bush. Hell, these days, even if there is actual evidence of wrongsoing it doesn't guarantee anything.

They just look bad, which is why the Bush admin was trying to find them.
