I thought it was a joking spoof or satire.

BUT NO!
http://newsbusters.org/node/4057

As an African American, Black, whatever, I was shocked to hear Bryan Gumbel use the race card, for NOT watching the Winter Olympics, but then to double my shock, he somehow, wackily, without merit, connected it to watching a GOP Convention???? :whoknows:

Point 1. Not only are athletes represented properly in the Olympics, one has to only compete to get there! Just because a "Duane Thomas" (Shani Davis) attitude type of Olympic performer just happens to be the first black speed skater for the men, and whines over issues engaged by his mom, is no excuse to use it as a springboard for ignoring reality. The fact is Debbie Thomas and countless others, including Luge performers, etc., have made their mark in Olympic history for YEARS! What an jerk to sit there and make believe and speak out of turn, weak as he ever was. He's so late with all this crap, he's not even in the real world. What a joke! He also says these Olympic Winter performers AREN'T athletes!

Well he may not be a sports commentator, but they (Olympic athletes), ARE of the finest, as they perform with guts in places that have subjection to conditions, Gumble's wimpy persona' could never touch!

Point 2. What was that about on the watching the Winter Olympics is like watching a GOP convention??? Cc'mon man, get a grip, oh forgot, you don't have nothing down there, and no one is putting down the Olympians for God's sake Bryan - but only YOU! Look in the mirror jerk! Are you the only black sports commentator? The Olympians are the only group of people working in an environment where they are not trying to annilhilate each other (yet are all from different countries), all you're doing is trying to get some type of name recognition out of it and - Oh, by the way, listening to you is like listening to you when you were on NBC - BORING!

I am just lost how a person, in a better position to make better statements, to fight any REAL bias or address something as political, could miss doing it in the right forum and putting things where they really belong, instead of making empty headed statements, African-Americans can do without!

Thanks on the langauge reminder Hail2skins :)

I have to agree with him for this part:

Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss-and-cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won ...

If they never showed figure skating on tv again that would fine with me.

The part that i didnt like was with his "try not to laugh when the olympics tells you these are the best athletes in the world despite having less black people then a g.o.p. convention part"

Okay Bryan ill try not to laugh when you incinuate there is a bias toward the black athlete in the most ethnically diverse organized sporting organization in the world. What are you trying to put in peoples heads that unless an athlete is black he cant be the most gifted athletically. I dont get it I think that Black people could agree that in the olympics the best of the best are represented not the best of the select ethnicitys. Maybe there is a lack of Black athlete because there is a lack of intrest for most cold weather sports by the black athlete. There is a reason Europe dominates these olympics, they are the best because to them it is the pinnacle of success due to the climate regions in there countrys being winter more then summer. But thats fine Brian that you dont want to watch the winter olympics but dont diss the athletes who do compete and deserve the recognition of those who do care.

Understand, sinceall the sports are liked, but at least you didn't use it to advertise personal inadequacies.
