View Full Version : My thoughts on FAD and camp

Sucks. I think Redskins Park camp is very fan unfriendly. Todays events wer elong, hot, humid. They had a five hour break between practices which was too long, sodas and water were $3 a piece,, and had no food. I like Carlisle much better, not just because I am 15 minutes from Carlisle, but it was much frieldier, more camp type, and more player/fan interaction. To me, for fans, this was a step backwards.

Hmmm.... After hearing about the breaks between practices, I think I'll only be showing up for the afternoon practice whenever I go this week.

tHAT MAY HAVE JUST BEEN fad SCHEDULE, I AM SURE IT IS. i THINK NORMALLY THEY RUN 9-11 AND 1-3

Good Lord, Mark, that's ridiculous even for you..... Go lie down or something. ;)

Yeah, that break was way too long. They were supposed to start FAD at 12:30 and they didn't. I couldn't believe the Danny wasn't selling food. I also couldn't believe he was walking around in a neck tie in that sun. I agree with PSF, it was a step backwards for the fans. Some appreciation.

Im not so sure Mark... the schedule at Redskins.com is saying 9-11 and 4-6.

Hope that is wrong...

ah man, that will suck, especially if it is hot and humid, like today.

Tell me... is Redskins Park close to any civilization... (ie. places to eat lunch, etc)?

I'm sure if you go to Route 28 (Sulley Road), you'll find something eventually.

This is one reason I decided not to go. I had heard it was going to be very unfriendly and I decided to not get off work, even though I got off work anyway. I hope you guys had fun but I really miss Carlisle. I have heard SS is not fan friendly and this seems to back that up

Pennskin is right it did suck! That is the first time I have ever left a Redskin event early. They had 9,000 people in a space big enough for only 6,000 and you could not see very well with people wandering in, in front of you. I hope they make some improvements before next year beacause I felt dissed instead of appriciated! However, I did enjoy meeting you guys and now I am looking forward to the Giants game. Go SKINS!

If you go up towards the Dulles Town Center (DTC) which is North on 28 from camp (just about 3 miles up from Waxpool Road. They have sevral diffrent resteraunts in and around there. DTC is a mall that has a large food court inside plus several resteraunts around it. Inside they have a Redskin store with some really good deals too. Hope this helps!

The thing that pissed me off the most is this. We sat out in the sun for 4 hours waiting on the second practice. We had prime seats. Front row of the field they were going to hold the second practice. Right before the band came on they told us that we weren't allowed to sit behind the endzone. We had to move behind the yellow painted line. We did that. 10 minutes later they came and told us to move behind the other painted yellow line. That practically moved us behind the endzone of the other practice field.

As if that wasn't bad enough, during the 11 on 11 practice, they had to the players not participating in the drill move down right in the way of our path of site. We couldn't see a damn thing. Then, they wouldn't let you even walk to the other side of the field where you could see things. Mark was able to get some good photos of the players on the side line though.

I have to agree with Mark and everyone else.....yesturday sucked! With the exception of getting to meet everyone.

I'd rather drive the extra 3 hours and feel appreciated than drive 5 1/2 hours each way and go thru what we had to endure yesturday. Spent over $20 in drinks a lone.

A tip for anyone going this week.....Take bottle drinks (plastic or can) and something to eat. You can take coolers.

Last year at FAD it was pretty cool. The only problem was when we lined up for autographs we waited and waited and with that many people in one spot it got very hot and they actually I believe brought EMTs down to check on some people. Then we talked the people into bring water down and selling it to us in line becuase I know we waited 3 hours (or it seemed that long) I do not think I will be making the trip to camp unless it moves again from the sound of it from you guys, it was horrible

Jeff, don't let what we're talking about deter you from going. It was great just be around other Redskin fans. And getting to see our players was great too.

It could have just been handled differently. I had a good time.....it just didn't feel like Fan APPRECIATION Day to me...

i actually didnt get to redskins park until around 2:15 (dont ask..) but by the sounds of it, that was a good thing. i will sum up yesterday in 3 words: HOT AS S***!. it was so humid that as soon as i got out of the air conditioned car, my hair started to sweat! im sorry i didnt get a chance to meet any of you all, i probably ended up walking right past ya'll and didnt realize it, lol. me and my bro were seating on the 35 yard line (about 30 feet from the yellow rope) on the side of the field where all the tents were. thankfully we brought a cooler with some food and drinks so we didnt have to pay $3 for a soda (thats ridiculous)!

observations from camp.....i did notice that the D looked good out there....alot of good hits, a few INT's...i didnt see the 1st practice so help me out guys, what did i miss? did ramsey look sharp?.....i hope that 55 yd TD from morton is a sign of things to come from the running game...bartholomew was booming kicks...and last but not least, the O still has a way to go. good thing we still have a month til we see the jets. unfortunately, i didnt get any autographs cuz the line was too darn long and it was too darn hot. but i did see the players roll back into to redskins park on the team buses and the players on the bus were checkin' me out (woo hoo!)...that was autograph enough for me, lol! i do like carlisle better though. either way, its an 1 hour away for me ....

Sorry we missed you Lady. We were talking about you. AGibbsGirl found us by seeing Keinos jersey with "Keino" on the back. lol

You're right. It was very humid. Miserably humid.

I might add, DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS!
Mine couldn't see a darn thing. It was stinking hot and $3.00 for water...What? am I supposed to pay for Champ's new contract?

Lady, I was walking around asking ladies who were wearing D. Green jersey's are you LadyNRedskinfan? I tried that only a few times before I realized someone was gonna call security...http://http://www.smilies.okipages.com/s/otn/happy/copper.gif

I enjoyed seeing the Skins though. Smoot was having fun and Ramsey looked good. I agree that Johnson sucked yesterday. Barker did not impress me but Hall did, until he tried for a long field goal, then I was cringing!

Oh well, we got football this weekend

I believe that yesterday was a learning process for Snyder. Maybe next year they will install some bleachers to make it alot better. With the 2000 season when it was held there, there wasn't a FAD. They didn't have to prepare for one day of almost 10,000 fans because the charge for parking and admission turned alot of people away. Another thing that you guys have to realize is that unlike Carlisle and Frostburg, there are 4 fields instead of one. Once everyone took the prime real estate in the front of the main field, there is really nowhere else to go for prime site lines. It looked to me also that the crowds yesterday were some of the biggest ever for FAD. I can't remember many being nearly as big for Carlisle nor Frostburg.

I will definitly go to camp again. I just don't know if I will go to FAD again. Especialy since it is so close to DC, I it brings out to many casual fans in search of autographs, unlike Carlisle you had to be pretty diehard to make the trip! I recommend that if you haven't been to camp you need to go. If possible go during the week when it is not so busy. For example Friday we saw 2 practices and got about 7 autographs. There were only about a 1,000 people ther versus the 9,000 on FAD.

It was just too darn hot to wear those jerseys.
I'm sure we all passed each other at some point in the day. There really wasn't that much real estate to cover.

Will you be at the tailgate?

soch, sorry we didn't get a chance to hook up. I hope you can make it for the tailgate party.

I had similar problems getting back to North Carolina. Took me 5 1/2 hours to get there. Took me an hour longer to get home.

Lady, we hope you can make the tailgate party. I think the tickets are only $60 a peice.

ok guys time for me to sound off. First and foremost it was really great to finally meet you guys. Secondly it was too damn hot. I know when you guys left you mentioned about the line for the autographs but i actually did and it went through smoothly. i ended up going through four different lines and that was after i waited for about 30 min. trying to decide if i was actually gonna do it. each line had five guys in it and they gave you a complete list as to who was in which line. Now i didnt get Lavar's autograph(one of the main reasons i decided to get in line) but i got to meet smoot, Big TRE, randy thomas, Brandon Nobles( he signed my teeshirt that has a redskin pissing on texas staduim, right on texas stadium), and taylor jacobs to name a few.so all in all it wasnt that bad to get the autographs.
