In the peak of offseason despair, around mid July, this little nugget would be golden.

I just wonder what John "Mother" Dunn is going to pursue. You just would think that this job was the pinnicle of his career.

I have wondered about Stan Hixon? We hear about Byner and Danny Smith every so often. Although not for the same things.
We also hear about the "D" coaches and the old guys, but Stan never gets mentioned.
And the passing game pretty much sucked last year. Was it related to him. Was he not able to develop any new receivers. If Williams was coaching WR he would have found two guys who we never heard of and they would have had pro-bowl seasons.
I am hoping Saunders is able to get the WR up to speed, because it seems Hixon hasn't done much there.

Any chance we get rid of Danny Smith? Was it his fault or the fact that are Punter and Kicker both stunk?
Coverage was better this year, but?

I trust Gibbs, but I just haven't been impressed with Danny Smith since he's been here. Coverage breaks down on KO's way too much and there just hasn't been the consistency there. I hope that gets corrected next year. You have to assume that he had some input on bringing Frost in over Groom (was that his name?). They both stunk, but Frost actually stunk worse from what I could tell.

Bob Saunders, Al Saunders son has been hired to join our staff.
The Redskins have hired Bob Saunders as assistant coach-special projects. Saunders, the son of new Redskins associate head coach-offense Al Saunders, will work on the offensive side of the ball.

Gibbs son and Saunders son are now on staff.

If that keeps Saunders busy and 100% dedicated to the offense, I'm alright with it.... his son is not in my payroll :)

Let's not forget that Gibbs has a son on the staff too.
Maybe this move was part of the deal that brought Saunders here.

it said in the article that he diagnosed our offensive tendency (IN kansas city) and that he helped put the play book together.
At the very least it's another set of somewhat knowledgable eyes watching the team and seeing if there are any problems....
This Diagnoses of our own team may lead to more suprise plays, defense looks for our tendecies, if we know them we can use it to our advantage...
sorta like we use LaVar's over pursue and coverage against him, ZING
sorry had to throw it in there:)

We will be a regular team now. Almost every other team runs this format. OC/DC then a HC.
I wonder what Belicheck did on the sidelines. He had Weis(OC)/Crennel(DC).

Exactly. Almost every team in the league runs things like this. I'm sure Coach Gibbs will still be very involved in everything, but he's just letting someone else address the details while so he has more time to invest in other places.

Don't get worked up over the punter. That is the most replaceable component of a team. Smith is big on hang time and direction. Groom apparently didn't satisfy Smith on direction. Presumably Frost was better since he lasted the season.
If Tupa is healthy and will play for the veteran minimum, he may be back. If not, and if Frost doesn't improve, Smith will bring somebody else in. Punters don't win games, although occasionally they may lose one with a shank. The punter (Kelly Goodburn) for the Skins' last Super Bowl season ranked dead last in the League. That should tell you how important a punter is.

groom got injured. everyone's down on frost cause he didn't kick it far but our coverage was excellent. that is a trade off I am willing to live with, especially at such a non-key position.

Gibbs son and Saunders son are now on staff.
Some people think a key reason Joe Gibbs returned was that his son wanted to start a career in coaching (probably nobody was going to give a novice like Coy Gibbs a job).
Presumably both Coy Gibbs and Bob Saunders are smart young men doing well as assistants, and they are not just the products of nepotism.

If Coy is as smart as JD, then he'll be an excellent coach for years to come.

I wasn't aware that Groom got hurt. I thought he was released because Danny Smith was not satisfied with his performance, especially the direction aspect of it.
Anyhow, I am not one of those people calling for Frost's head. I couldn't care less who does the punting. I agree with you, it is about as non-key a position as there is. And, I think teams that spend a high draft choice on a punter are stupid.

Frost was also flawless on holds for our kickers. Don't underestimate the value of that.

True ISF. But his "touch" kicks sucked. He has to be the worst Punter at trying to down the ball inside the 20 yard line. That's my only beef with the guy.

I'm not saying he doesn't have room to improve, but he is cheap, will only get better (hopefully) and has good hands and a quick, short delivery (hard to block). If Danny Smith is the coach that GW thinks he is, then he should be able to develop him the rest of the way.
