Most Troops Think They Should Leave Iraq (http://politicalwire.com/archives/2006/02/28/most_troops_think_they_should_leave_iraq.html)

"An overwhelming majority of 72% of American troops serving in Iraq think the U.S. should exit the country within the next year, and nearly one in four say the troops should leave immediately," a new Le Moyne College/Zogby survey (http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1075) shows.

Those results have some seriously contradictory results. A majority thinks they should leave and a majority thinks they should double the number of troops.

I don't think the poll is inaccurate, just that the troops themselves are torn about what to do. I suppose one way to interpret it is that they think we should double the number of troops or leave soon. In other words, get serious or get lost. The troops are probably torn between a desire to actually succeed and a nasty feeling that success is not possible any longer. That would make them pretty similar to most of us here at home, actually.

Am I reading it right: 90% think the war is in retaliation for Saddams role in 9/11? How do I interpret that, as they think we are there for no reason at all or that they are misinformed?

While 85% said the U.S. mission is mainly “to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks,” 77% said they also believe the main or a major reason for the war was “to stop Saddam from protecting al Qaeda in Iraq.”

That's rather alarming.

We've heard for some time from Republican leaders and media types that people who want the troops out of Iraq don't support the troops. Does that mean that the troops who want to leave Iraq also don't support themselves? How does that work?
