I attended both sessions. Fun Stuff
Heres what I saw:
Patrick Ramsey looks to get the ball to Coles. I really like Coles, I think he can be an explosive version of Marvin Harrison. He never drops a ball and always finds a seam.
Rob Johnson is the same player we have always seen. He is indecisive and doesnt know when to throw the ball. He has good accuracy, but no field vision. But he is a good fit b/c are line will give him all day to throw if he ever sees the field, but probaly will be never unleast Ramsey gets hurt.
Chad morton broke a 60 yarder, which started with a couple of juke moves and then he turned on his jets. There was no catching him.
I read worries about Rod Gardner. Put them aside, b/c he makes plays every visit I've been to. He may not be flashy, but he will play an important role in our offense. He exceled in the slant routes as well as the out routes(he seemed to catch alot of passes along the sideline). He is still a valuable weapon
Taylor Jacobs will be the #3. I seriously see no rookie flaws.
All the other recievers seem equal, although McCants has sat out, and Russell usually gets limited reps b/c of his knee. Flowers made numerous catches in both sessions, often diving for the ball.
Patrick Johnson seemed to beat Smoot for a 40 yard TD but Smoot jumped at the last second and swatted the ball down. It was a pro bowl type play. P. Johnson ran a good fast route and it could have easily been TD . Barker looked good, which is unusual compared to last year. Hall kicked alot, but started missing at about the 45+ kicks. Plenty of distance, he missed wide right by just a little bit on a couple of the long ones. Overall, he looked very good on every other kick.
Lavar looks phenominal. He simply ran over Trung on one rush, although Trung took the block like a man. I like Trungs toughness so far. On another, Lavar ran over Chris Samuels on a rush. Yes, I said Samuels. Samuels got up laughing. It will be good for him and others to practice against the games best
David Terrell started at Stong Safety both sessions, which bothers me. Although he might be a better suited for strong safety, I have no faith in Terrell.
Bowen still looks beast. I didnt get to good of a evaluation on the D-Line, the only thing I noticed was that Benard Holsey beasted on Lenny Friedman a few times during second team set.
Flemister looked much better both sessions. He caught alot of balls on the 5 and out route that he commonly did last year. He seems to be ahead of Royal and Stephens.
George Edwards seems to do alot of rushing with our linebakers, especially Lavar.
On the two minute drill(they had an actual playclock and yard markers), the first team offense did a great job and eventually scored on a run by Ramsey on the first team D. They worked alot of screens and sideline routes.
The Rb battle still seems wide open, with Candidate and Watson splitting reps, Betts is still hurt with his elbow. Candidate worked alot of routes coming in motion out of the backfield and lining up as a wide-out. This could create good mismatches. I remember him doing alot of that for the Rams and he did a good job in the limted action. I vividly remember him blowing past a defender while a Ram and catching a 40 yarder over the defender.
Everything looks good overall. Alot of players are getting rest, which tells me the coaches have confidence in them.
Cant wait till the panthers preseason game to see how we do.
Talk to yall later
