lol

now this is really interesting. cause i doubt anyone else saw this move coming. i sure as hell thought pennington would be released. but they will still sign some veteran insurance, with kitna's name being thrown around.

This deal was contingent on the CBA being extended, so I guess El Chad-o es El Gone-o now-o.

That's what is on tap now with no CBA done.

Akh, did you see something I didn't? This deal as far as I know is with or without a CBA.

Good cap move IMO. If healthy he always ends up in the play-offs....if not he can be cut I believe after June 1 with no 07 CAP hit.

$3 million this year with the potential for $9 million based on incentives. Here are the incentives:

Survive training camp without getting injured
Survive pre-season without getting injured
Survive game #1 without getting injured
Survive game #2 without getting injured
Complete a long pass to Coles
Survive game #3 without getting injured
.....

I don't think they can legally do it with the 30% rule if there's no CBA extention.

and phillip rivers thought his original contract proposal had impossible to reach incentives(like guiding team to super bowl 3 times in 5 years).

I can't believe they didn't cut ties with him. Guess Ramsey has to find another home.

and it could wip out the only chance we had of getting a draft pick for ramsey. oh well, maybe a 5th rounder?

Maybe Oakland. They just released Kerry Collins.

yeah, but technically they have marquis tuiasosopo, with the chance of drafting jay cutler. i dont see them giving up much for a QB they'd plan on having for a year.

Cutting him would have resulted in a 12 mill cap hit.

If no CBA the contract is said to be 3mill guaranteed with 6 mill in incentives. Without a CBA ,if his incentives are reached they would count against the 06 CAP meaning players would have to be cut as Chad hit each incentive.

Jets will still bring in a Kitna, Ramsey, Collins type as there is no way of knowing whether Pennington can start the season.

That type of contract tells me that this is mainly a CAP driven deal and for now the FO views Pennington as not ready to start or reach the contract incentives.

Basically they saved 9 mill against the CAP and will probably plan as if Pennington is not likely the starting QB in 06.

Yeah, I heard his deal was loaded with incentives. They could still trade for Ramsey, but I just don't see it happening.
