I agree with Kenny... those are our best players on the field

With our Defensive line it should not be an option. Jesse, LaVar, Trotter and Mitchell would a very good set of LB's. We would still need more size for the NT

Jeff is correct, we need a big nose tackle and that player is not on our roster. Wilkinson wouldn't have been that player either. He was a terrible nose tackle in Cincy so they moved him outside. He bitched about playing in the 3-4 until they moved him to DC.
The 3-4 has certain advantages, especially in that since very few teams use it, most opposing players are not experienced in playing against it. Right now, though, I don't see the players to play a 3-4 on our roster. I'm not sure we've got the players for a 4-3 defense either, but that's a different poll.

I hope we can get hold of a big body to even just rotate in with our tackles, our run defense has me worried

I say yes, simply because we don't really have good tackles either way, so I'm assuming we get a beefy guy to play the interior sometime between now and the beginning of the season. It's very true that right now we don't have anyone who could effectively play Nose Tackle well, but honestly, we don't really have players to play standard DT well either.

At this point I think we need to find that happy medium between our defensive players strengths and the D Coordinator's scheme. I don't know what we are working with at this point in time. Big Daddy wasn't the best but he was the best we had. His body will be missed.
i think it used to be more justified when we had this conversation but right now our d is coming off a good season, why change things? Of course there's also the fact that we just don't have the personell .. the 3-4 is sort of a pipe dream right now.

I voted yes. The Panthers used the 3-4 defense when they went to the NFC championship game in their 2nd year. And they didn't have that big NT.
With our LBers, it should be a no brainer.

Man, what a evenly divided poll. I woudl love to do the 3-4, we have the Lbs to play a 3-4, but like what was said, we lack a big nose tackle to implement it.

we would do alright, but I think we still need a big line. Besides, does our defense want to learn yet another system?

I said no because its just too late for that...the whole point of appointing Edwards to def cord was to get some continuity for our defense. Throwing a 3-4 scheme at the players would be too much to ask.

There is no need for a big NT in a 3/4 defense. The NT needs to be an active burrrower. The two "ends" would be better off having size as they will be more in position to make plays. We have defensive linemen who would be good fits for the 3/4. Ironically w/ our LB talent, that is where we might not have a good fit. "Tweeners" are best suited OLB in the 3/4. The only guy close to that on our roster is Ladarius Jackson

I voted yes... use our LB's to their abilities... how long has it been since we REALLY had a great NT? Our defenses havent been THAT bad.

I would like to see a "few" 3-4 sets sporatically throughout the season, but I don't want to see the Skins adopt it fulltime.
Our rush D is a big concern, and I'm not convinced a 3-4 would help us improve that.

Interesting article on the 3/4 and who might be using it this year.
I would like to see it, if we could pull it off, but it sounds as if alot would need to happen before the Skins would be ready for this change.

LaVar could obviously fill in as one of the OLBs needed. It'd be interesting to see Jackson at the other end, but I still haven't heard a damn thing about him. A few updates would be nice. Rehab, practice time, injury status, anything.

not necessarily. the texans and falcons were the only two teams last year who used the 3-4. atl started ellis johnson, who is more fit for defensive end.
we don't have the ends .. end of story. You think Bruce Smith or Reagen Upshaw could handle the 3-4? So say we go 3-4 with Haley at DE, Noble at DT, and Wynn at DE. ASIDE from the fact that it would destroy the continuity we have going by keeping the basic system and terminology in place, we would have no depth at end. There isn't anyone on the roster who could come in and start at DE in a 3-4 if Wynn or Haley went down. This is just not a realistic proposal.

Maybe in limited packages.... But other than Arrington we don't have enough speed in out LB's to play a 3-4

Don't forget about the Steelers. They used it in every game.

The steelers did use it in every game but Casey Hampton is a house. Noble could be a solid NT. I don't think our ends could handle it though.

No! Why change a top 5 defense?
If it's not broken, don't fix it. Mess with offense. Get the offense to pull it's fair share of the load & stay on the field more than 3 downs & the defense will be off the charts.

its more than just a matter of switching to the 3-4 just like that. the defense needs plenty of time to work on the adjustment, they need to come up with some plays. their is just alot that you have to concentrate on to go to the 3-4. the 4-3 is fine right now, they just need to get a nice, big d tackle.

yeah, our defensive backs may not be fit for the 3-4 anyway. if we wanted to change the defensive system, we should have done it before free agency or the draft.
