Oh, Danny, yoi: For weeks leading up to free agency, owners around the league whispered that it was mathematically impossible for the Washington Redskins to get under the salary cap, and they chortled that fraternity brother Dan Snyder would not be able to continue his free-spending ways. Yet three days into free agency, the Redskins have added wide receivers Antwaan Randle El and Brandon Lloyd, tight end Christian Fauria, defensive end Andre Carter and safety Archuleta.
So, either Washington contracts manager Eric Schaffer is a genius or Snyder has found a way to circumvent the cap. Seems it must be the former, since none of the legion of the team officials who keep wondering privately how the Redskins are able to add players -- and who complain to the media about Washington's laxity in turning in contracts to the league -- apparently has the gumption to raise the issue with the NFL Management Council. Give Snyder, whose team is a veritable mint, credit for this: He's terrible at reading a blueprint but great at doling out the long green.
In each of the last two springs, Snyder has vowed publicly that the roster he has assembled will represent the Redskins' team for three years. Then the inevitable occurs. Washington doesn't win a Super Bowl, the roster is blown up and Snyder goes back to the vault for another free-agent spending spree. One of these years, paying out all that money actually might pay off in a championship.
I just highlighted the interesting part. You don't have to click the link ;)

Or even better....the rest of us who have resigned ourselves to the fact that King and Pasquerelli are HATERS with an agenda.
Im telling you....Make it a bannable offense, so our board won't have to be littered with this trash.

I'm confused as to how we blew up our team but whatever, same old Don Vito but with a make over. I bet "pastabelly" and "fatsquereli" threads outnumber anything else on this board over the passage of time, dont you know that writers like him thrive off of it? They love getting fans all emotional and outraged because more people read his articles and people will talk about him. Thats all that matters. Just stop reading the stuff he pulls out of his backside, it stinks so stop passing it to the person next to you.

All pasta wants in writing this is a strong negative response from Redskin fans. He's like a heal in pro wrestling. Attacking the redskins brings cheap and easy heat on him which is what he wants. The worst thing that could happen to him is if everyone ignored the garbage he writes. I hope nobody clicks on his link.......... ever!

We have become the Yankees of the NFL.
The Yankees spend almost ten times as much as some teams so I don't think we can really be compared to them salary-wise. The thing is when some teams are paying outrageous money to college players in a few months we won't be. It's just a different approach, not raiding every team's best players every year like the Yanks do.

But that's just it. We know we dont' do that, but that is the way some of the jerks portray us, so much so, even whiners among GM's like Pollian keep ringing that bell to justify his murky selections for his own team (deflected nonsmarts).
Funny when Marv Levy took over as GM at Buffalo, the whining stopped!
Marv knows something about what Pollian's doing and knows that JG and Vinny are simply doing what's best for the Skins. None of them pay attention to the writers on the internet (witness Joe Gibbs DIDN'T know who Peter King was or looked like when he went to shake Gibbs hand the Combines here). Also, it made JG perplexed that this same couch potato was determing who goes in the HOF. What a laugh!

It seems to me alot of these teams are spending way under the cap which makes us look like we have way more money to spend than everyone else since we push it to the limit every year. It will be interesting to see if the cap gets adjusted up under the new system because of all the cheap teams.

The Colts needed that cap increase. Skins needed it. Pittsburgh needed it. Tampa Bay needed. Chicago needed it. Seattle needed it. NE needed it. Carolina needed it. Denver needed it.
Giants were in a area of needing depending what they did, like some othes.
These are the spenders and WINNERS in the NFL last year, with some others.
The cheaper teams better come up with a good excuse, because the increase is do the BEST you can and sometimes you have to PAY (players play for certain amounts) to get the best and/or what fits perfectly with your team.

Dans comittment to win is unparrelled in the league, 31 other teams are after the big prise and if I'm not mistaken we just keep getting better each year and its looks like we have made a marked improvement on an already great team. hats off to Dan, Joe and Co..........fatso can go suck eggs, lemmons or whatever, anyway you look at it he sucks.........kind of funny in an entertaining sort of way.....what will he be able to say after this season....

Secret to success:
Pittsburgh lost so many games, they kept getting #1 picks in the 60's and 70. The rest is history. My point is they kept getting the 1st and second rounders from LOSING so much. They weren't critisized for the LOSING just the winning they did afterwards. Let the fat pigs squeel in disgust and watch them feed on crow when we win.

I think it's pretty funny that our team is "exploding" when we've clearly kept almost the entire roster in tact. Different scenerio: If we had lost the same number of players we have so far, and we got a bunch of crappy players to replace them, would we still be "exploding"? I think his definition of exploding must mean when you add more good players on top of what you currently have. KABOOM!!
You do have to give him credit for saying that one of these times, our offseason strategy might end up with a championship. Maybe he's alluding to this year?

Yeah, but back in those days you didn't have to give the #1 pick a $50 million contract with half of it guaranteed like you do now. Really, the cost and risk related to having a high draft pick nowadays easily offsets the benefits of getting a potential star. I like the Skins approach to spending their money on known quantities instead of on rookies.

I have all I can stand on this issue.
This team today is being molded into a Joe Gibbs Team. This is his 3rd season here. The longest ANY coach has stayed here since Snyder(I thank god for this every day) bought my team.He asked Turner and gave him everything he thought he needed to Win for 2 seasons. He fires him and rightfully so the man is not a HC.Marty comes in and starts throwing out the premadonas on the roster, when he was asked to give up SOME of his complete control of the team,HE BALKED,and in my book Marty and his ego bailed on US.
Incomes Spurrier,he like the other 2 coaches is ASKED what he needs to succeed.Unlike Gibbs he has no clue what it takes at this level. So he and our team are clueless for 2 years.Snyder gives Spurrier everything he thinks he needs and wants. After the 2nd season he flys to a nice florida golf course hides in a bush and phones in his resignation.
Enter Joe Gibbs
Snyder asks and delivers what Gibbs needs.
Since the 2003 season there are 15 players left from spurriers last roster.
QB PATRICK RAMSEY
RB LADELL BETTS
RB ROCK CARTWRIGHT
WR TAYLOR JACOBS
OT JON JANSEN
OG RANDY THOMAS
OG DERRICK DOCKERY-TENDERED
OT CHRIS SAMUELS
LS ETHAN ALBRIGHT
DE RENALDO WYNN
DT NIC CLEMONS
LB LEMMAR MARSHALL
LB CHRIS CLEMONS -TENDERED
CB ABE JIMOH -TENDERED
K JEFF HALL
3 are tendered FAs and could be else where.Ramsey,Taylor and Hall are rumored to be gone so more than likely there will be 12 players left from 2003 if we resign the 3 tenders.
Irresponsible? Not hardly.Gibbs is molding this team to his type of players.Funny thing about this cap hell they have been in,Snyder is still able to get what his coach needs and what we want..........A WINNER:Peace:

Thats a fantastic point. There was a point in time when having a top draft pick was great, but now with the amount of money spent on them and the fact that the team's long-term success is basically in the hands of a 10 million per year rookie QB, having a high draft choice is not an enviable position

Thanks for the reality check to all Haters out there.
Truth is we lost the following: Clark, Royal two starters who could be IMMEDIATLEY replaced with UPGRADES for better quality, commitment to long term and play making ability.
WE RELEASED players who had absolutely no major role on the Skins during the Skins tenure of the past 4 years, and would also offer the same for the next 4.
How that equates to getting rid of superior players, is beyond me.
I like your post and wish it was on the front page of the HR site. That way, instant Rumor zapping on the haters remarks, and takes the air out of us BASHING our players and screwing up their careers. ONLY people that like Peter King are fans of the same team he really likes and folks who don't keep up with football, but want to learn, wives, first time lovers of football, feminine men converting over to hardcore (geez that sounds like, never mind, but that's what happens when you think of PK) and folks who are on tour/travel in town for business, thinking they can fit in with football knowledge for each stop and a beer.

I was stunned by the petty nature of the criticisms and insults in the piece. He called Dan Snyder "fraternity brother". What exactly does that mean? I wrote pasquarelli the following email - i don't if it will get to him as i don't have a specific email address. Note my polite tone (I am hoping for an actual response).
Mr. Pasquarelli,
I am writing in response to your article on ESPN.com "IMG going extra mile to broker big deals". I am a loyal reader of ESPN.com and your many contributions. To be fair I should also say that I am Redskins fan.
Your continued personal attacks on Dan Snyder have reached rather comical and sad proportions. There have been many rumours on our fan web boards about a personal animus between you and Mr. Snyder. I prefer not to engage in those discussions since I find them ridiculous but your articles continue to feed that perception. Every article about the Redskins (especially in the off-season) is negative. This most recent one includes the following quote: "fraternity brother Dan Snyder". What exactly is the point of characterizing the man that way? Obviously you meant it as an insult, I am just not sure what kind of insult you meant.
It seems to me that you and others in the media are stuck in a timewarp. You constantly harp on Mr. Snyder's inability to settle on a coach and bad FA signings. Yet the FAs you all always mention (Deion, George, Carrier -and they were terrible signing especially Deion) all took place in 2000. That was six years ago! Since then the record has been mixed to positive like most teams. Certainly the class of 2004 made up key elements of the team.
Then there is this quote: "each of the last two springs, Snyder has vowed publicly that the roster he has assembled will represent the Redskins' team for three years. Then the inevitable occurs. Washington doesn't win a Super Bowl, the roster is blown up" Could you please explain to me what you consider blown up? We have added 5 FAs and one trade while cutting no one of real value except for Lavar Arrington (I have NO idea what went on there but something doesn't add up with that one). So far I see a turnover of about 10 players out of a roster of what 45 or 50? And this is year 3 of Coach Gibbs tenure - all new coaches like to swap out players - why don't you look at how many players Lewis has turned over in Cincinnati or Saban has at Miami. I think that might give you some perspective.
There is no question he made mistakes when he took over the club and maybe he ruffled your feathers the wrong way but aren't you supposed to be the indepedent, objective journalist? Shouldn't you be able to report on what is going on without editorializing every time? LIke all people Mr. Snyder makes good decisions and bad decisions (his best so far is staying out of Joe Gibbs and Gregg Williams' way over the past two years) and I will be the first to criticize him when he acts badly (don't get me started on the parking fiasco that is Fedex Field) but your constant and now petty criticisms are making only you look bad. I suggest you re-assess your feelings and review your written work. You will see that they are bleeding through into your coverage of the team.
I offer this criticism without malice (and I am sure you could care less what I think) but because I like your writing and the sources you have which make for entertaining reading. I hope that you take it in that spirit.
