Coach Spurrier

Q: Can you talk about the injury to Laveranues Coles today?
A: He sort of got kicked accidentally. He was dizzy a little bit, but he came back and practiced. Yeah, we were afraid he had a slight concussion. He never was out of it. He just felt dizzy and came back and finished practice.

Q: Was it a concern that Matt Bowen was part of that play as well?
A: Matt was trying to get out of the way, and it was either his foot or his knee that accidentally hit him as he was trying to dive over him. It could have hurt Matt really worse that Laveranues when you hit your knee on a helmet and so forth, but it just happened to sort of catch him where it made him dizzy for a while, but he was okay.

This quote is rather interesting also...

Q: How do you feel about your tight ends?
A: They're doing okay. Zeron [Flemister] of course was with us last year. He's catching the ball a little bit better, I think, at times. But other than that, you've only got one ball out there. Are you going to throw to the tight end all the time, or are you going to throw it toward Laveranues Coles, Rod Gardner, Taylor Jacobs, Cliff Russell, Darnerian [McCants]? If you're best receivers are wide receivers, than obviously they get most of the balls. But we expect to throw some to our tight end. They're involved. They get some balls, but obviously they need to catch them when they're thrown at them. We don't need to bounce them off the tight ends, or we look pretty stupid trying to throw to the tight ends. And we had a few ricochets recently, so we're going to fire at them in the ballgame Saturday night. They're going to get some balls.

Notice he puts McCants name in there as well? P. Johnson may end up not making the team along with Flowers and Woodcock...

from what i saw sat i dont see johnson making the team, too many dropped passes. no need for club hands here i do however see flowers making the practice squad or possibly for special teams. he was catching almost everything that was thrown at him and doing it with aggression.

I have said all along Johnson was not worth the paper he signed his deal on but hey I might still be wrong

I would personally rather keep McCants over P. Johnson. He is in the same mold of Gardner, just a little taller. So you've got the speedsters in Coles, Jacobs and Russell, the physical guys in Gardner and McCants. Plus, with McCants height, I think he is very dangerous in the red zone. He played tight end in college too. That doesn't mean that he is going to block the DE all day, but in the red zone, where most tightends are effective on other teams, I think Darnerian could fill that role here.
