How are they affording him and not Vandermouth?

Its very possible last year if Vanderjagt doesn't miss the FG that the Colts win the SB. Now they have possibly the most clutch kicker in NFL history. Its a good signing for them although it doesn't address there primary need which is defense and a RB.

I can see it now.
AFC Championship game, near future, Colts vs Pats
Colts down by 2, 3 seconds left, Vinatieri lining up for what should be a chip shot field goal. Comes out, ball is snapped, and Vinatieri intentionally shanks it. He runs over to Peyton, takes off his Colts jersey to reveal a Patriots jersey.
Oh that would be hilarious.

This might have helped them 3 years ago but I don't know if it matters now.

Wow, I thought he was practically a done deal to the Packers.
Seems the Packers aren't too serious about putting a winning team on the field for the near future. Not that I think a kicker would make them a instant winning team. But they have a lot of money just sitting around not being used.

hard to fault the colts on that one.. they get a better team player and lose a headache in vander shank. plus, venatieri can kick outdoors in snow.
unfortunately it does nothing to help the colt defensive losses this off season. that is what is going to bring them low this year.

adam should be even more automatic indoors.

Where's Ashton Kutcher hiding during all of this?
Actually, guys, don't forget, Vinateri might be losing the magic. He actually missed one during the Broncos divisional game.

And a QB that doesn't choke in the playoffs. :D

im getting the feeling that the colt's window of opportunity is closing quickly for them. They need to focus on actually keeping their young good defensive players. I dunno, this might help but they're doomed to perennial play-off heartbreakers.

I am sorry but if your team has to avert to dissing the kicker as the answer, when he has been FAR more solid than Hall, for losing in the playoff game I saw in Jan. you're shaky. If I am wrong, fine, then by all means its a good "edge" for a game or two. What have you reaped if you lose by 21 in the playoffs next time?
Winner in this, Dallas.

LOL ... he shouldn't be able to complain about missed kicks now. Vinateri is one of the best if not THE best.

It would be a bit of irony if Vinateri misses a cluch one. He might however break the long kick record by kicking indoors all that time.

Vanderjagt is by far the best kicker in the NFL. This is definitely a downgrade for the Colts. Vinatieri is overrated.
Vanderjagt was on the way out the moment he stepped up to Peyton Manning. I think it's absolute crap that you get rid of statistically the best kicker in NFL history simply because he speaks the truth about the "precious one." Oh well. They'll have to live with their decisions.

He missed one and had one blocked in the SB against Carolina.

Vanderjagt best by far? For real? Viniteiri has historically done well in crazy weather conditions. Let's see how things go once Vanderjagt leaves the friendly confines of the Colts stadium before we anoint him the best.

There was some speculation Tuesday night that the Patriots might consider Vanderjagt as a replacement for Vinatieri, but those rumors were unsubstantiated.
Now that would be funny!

??
They are showing some interest in him. Sorry about not adding that in :)
Later word is NE is in fact taking a look at Vanderjagt.
Also I agree he missed badly in a game he could at least get them into OVERTIME, NOT WIN THE GAME as some suggested among Colts fans. There is difference!
There is absolutely NO guarantee the Colts would have won that game, even if they did go into OT. Momentum is a summary of the motion created, not the final outcome of the score.
