View Full Version : What if Bush isn't picked #1?

I can't help but think about this scenario...the Texans stun the country by picking Ferguson over Bush with the first pick of the draft. I know it will probably never happen because of all the hype over Bush but picking a possible franchise LT could be the best thing to ever happen to Houston. They just locked up Carr, they have a solid TB in Davis, and they have a few solid WR's...the glaring problem is keeping Carr upright! He's been sacked more times than a ghetto grocery and they have done little to help the situation! How do you guys (and gals) feel about this? How would the draft unfold if the unlikely (and more than likely the impossible) were to happen?

I think it is more likely they trade down...but even more likely they pick Bush. Kubiak is in love with the guy. If I was them I would be calling the Jets so they could have a chance at Bush. The Jets have the ammo to trade up now.

I really think that Bush will be the #1 pick regardless of which team is picking in that spot. If the Texans was the massive LT then they will trade down for the team that wants Bush and get more picks in the process.

The Jets giving up their two first for the #1 overall.
And the #4 pick would be the ideal situation to be in for the Texans...
1. R. Bush, Jets
2. Mario Williams or Leinart, Saints
3. Leinart or Cutler, Tennessee
The 4 spot leaves them options for either D'Brick or Super Mario or a trade down AGAIN so someone can get either Cutler, D'Brick, Mario or someone else that shoots up the board. Three 1st or two 1st and another 2nd for the #1 overall would be an AMAZING draft for the Texans...

for some reason I kinda think that he won't go number 1 either....it's better to trade the pick..then get bush and trade him IMO...

leinart is not going to the saints
i see a lot of movement at the top of the draft, i think the more likely scenario will be for the saints to trade down out of that spot to a team that wants leinart bad, i personally the texans should trade out of the number 1 spot but doubt it would happen because of how popular bush has become and outrage would ensue, i think the top 5 will look very different on draft day with a lot of shuffling but not at the number 1 spot where bush will be taken by houston

Why is that not a possibility but the Jets, who have Pennington AND Ramsey, are more likely to take a QB?!?!?? I really think the Saints may go after Leinart or Cutler and let them sit behind Brees for one year. Unless Brees has a great season... then they'll trade Leinart/Cutler to someone that needs a QB.
That seems to be the strategy of teams nowadays... have a good to great draft prospect behind a good to great vet QB. Brunell/Campbell, Vick/Schaub, Brees/Rivers, Maddox/Roethinsberger (Roeth's rookie year), Griese/Simms (2004 season), Warner/Manning (Eli's rookie year), McNair/Volek, etc, etc.....

The Saints have way to many glaring needs to draft a QB in the first, their D is horrendous and they need a Mario Williams or AJ Hawk....they could draft a QB later (Omar Jacobs or Brodie Croyle) but not in the first....plus trading away a Leinart/ Cutler (if Brees played well) would be really hard, with the cap hit they will take with the amount of money a #2 would command in the draft

Because after what he went through with the Chargers, if the Saints were to pick Leinart or Cutler, Brees might assassinate him in his sleep...kidding aside, Ramsey and Pennington are no more than one or two year solutions for the Jets because they are either injured or mediocre qbs, while Brees is a Pro-Bowl qb in his prime..they did not sign him to huge money to sit him or get rid of him after one year...

I have to admit that I agree with the OP. The Texans NEED a dominant OT like Ferguson thier line is awful just ask Carr. Although the sexier pick would be Bush I am not completely sold on them picking him number 1.
I also think Bush has high bust potential and infact am more enamored with the other USC running back Lendale White. If Houston doesn't pick Ferguson the Aints will and if Houston DOES take Ferguson then Aints take Mario Williams or AJ Hawk because they need help at either of those positions and both of those guys will be blue chippers.

Brees isnt much of a veteran though, he will still be in the league for at least 5-7 more years, and he also isnt a question mark if he stays healthy, the jets have 2 qbs who have not performed the past 3 seasons, and the saints wont do what the chargers did, the cap penalties would be too large to trade a number 2 pick the year after you draft them thats why rivers is still in SD and not brees
