starting point :

Bears | Contract Details: LB Brian Urlacher - from www.KFFL.com
Fri, 6 Jun 2003 13:01:10 -0700

ESPN.com’s Len Pasquarelli reports the deal MLB Brian Urlacher received from the Chicago Bears totals $56.655 million, which includes a $13 million signing bonus. Since the salary cap charges exceed $5 million during each year, it’s reasonable to assume the Bears will look to restructure at some point. He’ll have a salary cap hit of $5.150 million in 2003, and it’s believed the $13 million signing bonus will be paid in installments. He’ll have base salaries of $1.05 million (2003), $1.75 million (2004), $1.25 million (2005), $3.95 million (2006), $3.95 million (2007), $3.95 million (2008), $4.95 million (2009), $6.15 million (2010) and $7.35 million (2011). There are also workout bonuses of $56,000 for 2003 and $50,000 each for 2004-2011. Urlacher will also have roster bonuses of $1 million (2003), $2 million (2004), $3 million (2005), $1.3 million (2010) and $1.6 million (2011). The latter two are tied to team and individual performances. The seven-year value is $40.155 million.

CarMike : did i say he was leavin' after this year ?

i have stated before on this board ( somewhere ) that the skins' will :

- sign champ to a new contract/contract extension
or
- put the " franchise tag " on him & continue to try/attempt to sign him to a loooooooong term contract.

i'm pretty certain that champ bailey will spend his entire nfl career with the 'skins ( as d.green did ).

p.s. but, i would luv to see him sign with the jets.
( now, that is a DREAM ! ).

And despite his relatively young age, Bailey became the longest-tenured Redskin after Dan Wilkinson's release last week.

I didn't even reailize this until I read it. Interesting...

Hell, now that Bubba Tyer's leaving, Champ is the Bobby Mitchell of the Dan Snyder era. The lack of continuity is sad. Hopefully, the org is on the right track now.

I agree, we all know Champ is gonna want to break the bank and he should get his, and I believe Dan will do what he has to. Champ as a lifelong Skin as Darrell was does sound really good doesn't it?

Com on Dan get it done

As much as i cringe with some of the bridges to cross with the huge contract dollars he wants, two reasons to smile:

1) his confidence is hilarious.

2) best of all he backs it up on the field, and i can't wait to see him bust out to give Snyder a little help in opening up the wallet.

Actually this must be consecutive years with the club, if not, Big Tre has him beat even with the two year absence.

Which would be more cap friendly? A new contract at end of season or an extension on the current? I would think a new one would.

I can't believe I just used the phrase "cap friendly", thats major cool point deduction! LMAO!

Well, I did my part to get Champ to stay. I believe we bought half a dozen bottles of water at FAD, that outta do it.
