ORLANDO, Fla. – Teams in search of a quarterback on the trade market could be in line for yet another young talent in the coming weeks: J.P. Losman.

Two league sources indicated Tuesday that Losman hasn't gained the confidence of the Buffalo Bills' new regime. Both sources expect the team to put the former first-round pick on the trade block before the start of the 2006 season – if he isn't already there.

Bills general manager Marv Levy declared the quarterback position an open race last week after signing Craig Nall to a three-year contract, and it was widely believed the former Green Bay Packers reserve QB would compete with Losman for starting duties. But one personnel man familiar with the situation said he expects Levy to put out trade feelers for Losman in the coming weeks.

"I think it's going to be something that boils down to Nall as the No. 1 and (Kelly) Holcomb as the backup," he said. "If you went through the locker room and people were honest, (there would be) a lot of people who aren't sold on Losman as a leader."

When asked if Losman could still win the support of Levy and teammates in the coming weeks, the source painted the situation as "doubtful."

I guess he isnt going to last very long in Buffalo. I still remember when he said he was the best quarterback in the draft when comparing himself to Manning/Rivers/Rothlesberger.

Wow. He got all of one year to prove himself. I thought they drafted him too early anyway. Perhaps if he would have been selected a bit later in the draft the expectations wouldn't have been as high/the leash wouldn't have been so short.

Harrington and Losman available. I'd like either one to go to the Cowgirls.

Talk about a short leash. Can't believe they only gave him the one shot.

Yeah, me too. Either would be fine by me. They're debating on the Cowgirl boards which QB is better, Joey or Drew. It's like debating which is a better democracy, North Korea or pre-invasion Iraq.

Craig Nall as the unquestioned #1? You have to be joking, Marv.

I'd actually give Buffalo huge props if they dumped Lossman. From all acounts he doesn't work hard, doesn't get along with his teammates, and has no grasp how to be an NFL QB and going into his third season he should be showing some positive traits. The only thing he has is an OK arm and good feet, but that's not enough to get it done. Too many teams sit on bad young QBs for too long because they have too much ego or too much invested to admit failure. How long will it take for the Ravens to admit that Boller can't play QB or will they just make up more excuses for his failures? Why did it take the Lions so long to get rid of Harrington when he hadn't showed an ounce of improvement in 4 seasons? So, good for Buffalo, don't handcuff the franchise because of ego. Move on, try again and eventually a QB will work out.

it is a lot easier to cut your losses when you can blame a prior regime for making a poor choice
billick is so stubborn he will never change

and before this year a lot of people were unhappy with holmgren's stubborn backing of hasselbeck

Lossman, Harrington and Ramsey will all probably go on to be decent QB's like many others that didnt exactly hit the gates running.

A lot of Qb's go this route, 1st rounder or not. Lets see there's S.Humphries, R.Gannon, S.Buerline, J.Delhomme, B.Griese, K.Warner, B.Johnson, V.Testeverde, T.Dilfer just to name a few.

I agree none of them are truly "great" QB's but they have all found some measure of success at diffrent points in their careers and won or held down the starting spot for longer than JP or PR.

Everyone thought he (Losman) would turn out to be better than Ramsey (Tulane Products) and now it looks as if he might be worse.

Harrington was finally given the boot after him and the Lions were attached at the post. If they don't feel Losman will work out time to move on similarly to what we had to do with Patrick. It's the most difficult job to have in all of sports so alot of these kids aren't going to cut it or come close.

In other news, Dick Jauron has just been fired. He was the shortest-tenured coach in team history. (AP)

I believe Joey's numbers improved over each of his first 3 seasons (granted, it was slight, but improvement nonetheless.
