good article, with lots of quotes from players, which i like to read.

seems we have yet another over qualified assistant coach, replacing a defensive back coach with a defensive coordinator, who used to work with Greg Williams. that is like 4 or 5 past defensive coordinators now on the defensive coaching staff in lesser positions. anyone with Greg Williams as his personal reference must be a great addition. and best of luck to the departing DeWayne Walker.

quotes:

Jerry Gray, who joined the Redskins in January after being fired as defensive coordinator in Buffalo. Gray, a four-time Pro Bowler who played eight NFL seasons and worked with Redskins assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams in Tennessee and Buffalo, replaced DeWayne Walker, who left to become the defensive coordinator at UCLA.

"For me, the combination of learning how they do things here and saying 'what's up' to the guys is what you get out of this," Carter said. "It's got to be different for everyone, but I'm starting to see it. This is a very simple defensive approach. They want you to attack, and be explosive. It's like this: straight ahead and attack."

i think Carter is going to be a beast in this system, with his motor and being unleashed to attack. Nolan used to preach that "read and react" approach when he was here, as coordinator of one the worst defenses we ever had. reading between the lines here, i assume he did the same thing in San Fran.

I'm hoping Rogers will be 100% this season.

I'm hoping Rogers will be 100% this season.

I hope so too. When he went down last year it was tough. I really want to address getting another CB because Springs is injury prone. I know CB's will be flying off the board in the draft too, so I'm a little worried what will be left to draft if say 9-10 CB's go in the first round.

9-10 CB's go in the first round.

woah... I havent seen any mocks or think that that many CBs are even considered first round talent. Id rather find a gem in the later rounds and groom him into a nickel back and then eventually into a starting position.

There is no way 9-10 CB's go in the first round. A good CB will be available when we pick and if our FO feels we need to move up in second then we shall.

Good article.

I also think that CB is an area the Skins are considering for the 2nd round pick. Hopefully we get the guy Williams wants.

Too bad we don't have a first round because there are several who will go mid to late first round who would have been perfect in GW "D".

With all the major moves we've done in the offseason we have lost sight of the fact that this was also a good move. Good read and I'm also excited about getting Grey onboard. We also added The Arch. Now we just need to get Taylor's legal stuff taken care of and we will have a top 3 secondary. I am in favor of using our #2 on a corner. It would solidify a difficult position for years.

Unless we pick up a nickle in FA, were using the #2 on a CB.
I'd say that's pretty much a lock.

Just like last year when I was so right about us NOT drafting a QB.

I agree, we need a premiere Nickle and someone that can fill in if Springs or Rogers gets hurt.....we need someone to not only challange Jimoh but beat him out.......Jimoh seems to be maturing and Gibbs and Williams seem to see his potential, I trust they are right but I can'e see us not filling the Nickle position with Quality.

It would appear to me that Skins may be waiting for the Draft in order to fill the open CB slot. Either way I trust in Gibbs & co. to dig us out another good find in the 2nd round.

you know, amidst all the hooplah and off season good news, signing gray may turn out to really be a big item inthe long run. he was considered head coaching material by some... he has to be a quality coach and will help the db's

that's the big question mark. i like the idea of putting Springs at free safety to lengthen his career, if Taylor cant play, and if there are enough corners to start. another top notch corner would open up a lot of possibilities. i always thought they might try Jimoh at safety but i guess i was wrong about that. i always thought he had the size for it and he seems to hit and tackle well.

the other advantage for jimoh at safety is that most plays would be in front of him. he is far better at that then going back. the disadvantage is that where he gets beaten is deep, and that is really bad to have a safety getting beaten deep-- it is 6 points. plus, he is the guy usually needing help, not giving it..
