A friend and i was talking about the skins. He is a giants fan and he said the 2006 class will end up just be like the 2003 FA class. He kept going on about how Snyder over spends every year.So i had to go back and check the 2003 FA out. Link http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/news/2003/03/03/freeagent_redskins_ap/ . Other then Randy Thomas that was a sad FA class. Yikes.:banghead: So looking at this list got me thinking.Does anyone know what ever happen to Trung Canidate.I have not heard about him since we let him go.

Trung Canidate RB
Dave Fiore G
Lennie Friedman G
John Hall K
Rob Johnson QB
Brandon Noble DT
Randy Thomas G
Regan Upshaw DE

You forgot to add "the toe" Coles, who ended up netting us Santana. So, we got a near pro bowl Guard, a pro bowl WR and we still have a good kicker(when healthy).
Not to bad from that perspective, eh?

i think the thing to consider is how things have changed since gibbs came on board..
really only this year and the past 2 should be factored. that is whenthe grown ups took over running the franchise.

Any free agency year before Gibbs is completely meaningless. Almost every single one of our acquisitions since Gibbs came back has been great.

Our rivals love to conveniently forget this when assessing our offseasons. Their jealousy is painfully obvious, I'm sure Giants fans around the world would love for their team to sign anyone besides over the hill DBs.

I agree, those were Spurrier players and some of those names weren't expected to do much. The difference is we have a nucleus that got into the playpffs we're building around, and the 2003 squad was a failed attempt to build a around a psuedo genius.

Who cares what your friend or anyone says anyway?

plus,

the entire thrust has changed. we are going after a different type of player under gibbs. players like rabach, carter, lloyd, moss, randle el, archuleta ... all players who are entering their primes and can be expected to remain productive for years.. we have signed a few like patten and fauria and collins to fit certain niches, but for the most part young, productive players.
totally different from guys like carrier, bruce smith, deion, upshaw, armstead-- guys looking for one last paycheck..

who was the one definite gibbs bust? barrow. no question they missed on him. happens some times. but if you add in daniels and springs and washington and griffin you have added some of the most productive players on the team.

and who are we losing? this year it is clark and royal.. immediately replaced with better players. dockery? retained. campbell? retained.
clemons? retained. jimoh? retained evans? retained. albright? retained.

lavar? that is a separate issue. too much for a simple answer. but recognize that among all the vets he was apparently the only one who was resistant to restructuring his contract to help out if the CBA went does. says volumes if it is true

we are clearly on the right track. second round of the playoff not enough?
watch what happens this year...

it will be interesting in 2009 to look back and see how the FA class of 2006 prospered.
I doubt both El and Lloyd will both be here
I hope both Arch and Carter are
C Fauria, could he be a mainstay in our blocking scheems?
Wright - maybe yes maybe no
Pacillo and Walter- both gone or maybe one could be a Pro Bowler:) (ok probably not)
Collins- will be probably be gone
Will we have a pleasant suprise with any of these guys? --DE Sean Guthrie, RB Johnathan Combs, QB Casey Bramlet, RB Kerry Carter, WR Ataveus Cash, WR Ron Johnson, OL Jim Jones, K Tyler Jones, RB Jesse Lumsden, TE Calen Powell, DL Karon Riley, WR Richard Smith, LB Jashon Sykes, WR LaShaun Ward, CB Aric Williams, OL Jonta Woodard, DB Curry Burns

Richard Smith kinda intrigues me after i got to watch a little bit of him in an NFL Europe game yesterday. It will be interesting to see what he does over there this year.

Had the 2003 group been coached by Gibbs (except Toe) they would have been successful. Had the 2004-2005 group been coached by Spurrier, they would have won 9 games comined over the two years.

ummm.... let's take those burgandy and gold glasses off. It was a disaster. But it was also Spurrier so let's not dwell on those years.

Yeah, ppl love to bring up Spurrier picks or Dan Snyder's early FA mistakes (2000-2001). What the heck does that have to do with the current Head Coach and coaches? Just people who want to live in the past prior decade when the Redskins stunk.

Walt Harris

Walt Harris

Walt Harris was very good his first year, when he played in the nickel. Last year when forced into a starting position he was burned regularly. But when our corners were healthy and he was able to go back to nickel he played very well again. As long as he played nickel he was more than adequate and a good pickup.

Walt Harris

Let's not forget what a fine season Walt had in '04. Not to mention the decent job he did last season. Sure he played soft coverage, but he didn't get burned either. I'm glad to see us moving in a different direction at that position, but truthfully he wasn't that bad.

without some of walt harris tackles last year in the first dallas game on MNF, we dont beat them
