Redskins | Clemons signs tender
Wed, 5 Apr 2006 14:07:04 -0700
Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com, reports LB Chris Clemons has signed his tender offer from the Washington Redskins. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
I think the only one who hasnt signed his tender is now Brandon Lloyd i believe. And he is just waiting for his long term deal.

Good news! Wonder if GW will plug him in where LA used to be...He's aggressive, and I know Lindsey and Blache are also high on his attitude and work ethic. Hopefully he shines like Marshall did, and we can extend his contract multi-year like we did with Lemar after his breakout season. Having Marcus W as his mentor can only be a good thing, as well...

He has already done it I suppose. If not, other team could sign him and we would receive compensation....

Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd has signed the one-year contract that was offered to him by the San Francisco 49ers prior to the March 12 trade.

Yes. If not, it could be Pierce/Clark all over again

Great, great, FANTASTIC news. I'd really like to see this guy molded into our OLB to replace LaVar. He's quick, strong, and a rushing specialist, which is perfect for the weak side spot. If GW can work magic on Pierce and Marshall, I'm sure he can turn this guy into a capable OLB... at least better than Holdman.

Good news to hear. I would love to see him explode this year like most on the the thread. I don't think we should give him a long term contract until he proves how really good he is.

This is good to hear in Clemons case especially since we don't have LA anymore. This is further proof that from the onset of the offseason everyone has been great and cooperative on this team about getting us to the promised land. Why would he want to field other teams' offers when he could play for the Skins and of course Joe Gibbs? Core Redskin my friends.

nice, i think he can make a big difference for us. Quick question, did he hurt his knee towards the end of last season, i swear i heard something about that. if so, it may be something to look into.

chris may or may not be a replacement for lavar, but he plays a big role in GW's defense.

This is another of my boi's.
I am glad I can actually go out and get my Clemons jersey, if I had only one choice to get one, it would be a tossup between Clemons and Lloyd[I would probably get both].
I am a huge fan of his, I am hoping that he is the most improved player on defense this year. I think if groomed correctly and given the chance, he will be another "nobody made great" in GW's system.

Cant wait to play Madden with Carter on the end and Archuleta back there layin' licks! We have the "dream team" for an offense. Portis in the backfield, cooley, moss, lloyd, randel el, patten.....this is crazy.

I tend to always agree with you, but .... let's give Dock some time. I know that DD could demand a much bigger salary with a quality season, but if he is anything short of great maybe we should look elsewhere next year.
I know that continuity on the OLine is a big thing, but we have so many positions filled with quality players and multiyear deals right now, we have all of our first day picks next year, and who knows what else will be available via FA.
If we didn't have so many other needs, we could have targeted a Steve Hutchinson type this offseason, but what if we have a chance at next year's SH? I wouldn't want to have our hands tied due to some longterm deal we signed DD to, only to see him turn in an average, inconsistent year again.
As for CC ... man I hope that he steps in for Lavar and is a stud, but even if he doesn't, he serves an important role on this team and since we could probably sign him longterm for a reasonable price, i would like to see that happen soon.

Chris Clemons is defineately needed. He should be fighting for a spot on the field. I don't know if he really will beat out McCune, but once we draft that LB, they all will be fighting for a spot on the field.

I would wait a year to go get those jerseys. We have to sign them to a long term deal first.

You are so good at soothing our innermost thoughts of the team. You always seem to be right there. PASkinsGirl, you are blessed like so many others here.
It is a matter of timing (the money's already there. I think it has something to do with certain deadlines, not so much them, as it would be for signing others, the amout they want to have and the dates allowed). That's what I am thinking.

Thanks bg! One thing about the timing is the rookie pool. After the draft the NFL will assign a rookie pool number to us, based on our picks, that will count against the cap. It will likely be in the $2 million range, but it should not cost us that much to sign our rookies. In fact, only the second round pick should actually add to our cap number. The other signings (rounds 5-7), wont count much because when they are signed, they push someone else out of the top 51. So, they'll probably wait until that shakes out.

Warpath Insiders is reporting that Chris Clemons is listed as the starter at Will and remindend us of this quote by Lavar Arrington on the day he was released talking about Chris Clemons
He has one fan in the departed Arrington.
I groomed him, Arrington said of Clemons the day he was released. Hes great athletically and he figured out he could play physical, too. He was just finesse early on. With his body type and speed, he could almost steal the show if he gets that opportunity.
The Warpath Insiders article is a subscription only but I pulled this quote from a non subscription article HERE (http://www.examiner.com/By_State-a56945~Weakside_hole_needs_filling.html)
Of course Dal Lindsey, iun both articles, is continuing his man crush on Warrick Holdman for some unknown reason.

The only thing Lavar should be grooming is the Postons' back hair.

He let me down.
For the record though, I don't have anything against Lavar. I just find it kind of amusing that the biggest knock on him is that he's uncoachable yet here he is talking about how he tutored other players.

Clemons has the size and speed to be effective. He's a proven rusher, but can he play coverage? I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Good stuff. I'm not as concerned with WLB as maybe I should be. I just remember being concerned with a guy named Antonio Pierce, then with a guy named Lemar Marshall, and in the end, there was no reason to be worried. Between Clemons, McCune and a rookie, we'll have good competion at that spot. May the best man win.

I agree. I mean I still hope and wonder who will pan out, but it is easy to have complete confidence in our coaching staff.
