i recently made a purchase for soccer equipment through a well known soccer distributor. order came out to around 150 bucks. i followed the tracking number yesterday and saw that it had been delivered to my apartment. when i showed up, though, there were 2 packages...somehow, the company doubled my order but only charged me for one. now i have the obvious question...what to do with the second package. do i need to return it to the company to rectify their mistake or does their loss equal my gain?

I would think that really you shoulkd return the equipment. Eventually the company will do an audit, see they sent you two shipments and charge your card accordingly.

However I would contact the company, tell them they sent you two of the same item and offer to ship the second back to them....at THEIR COST!!!! Moist companies will give you a billing number and you can even have UPS (or FED EX for the owners of the board) come pick it up.

Most companies would tell you to keep the additional merchandise... It has never happened to me, but I have friends that complained about late delivery only to have companies send out additional merchandise and they end up with double.

I don't think I'd go out of my way to return it but that is me...

Keep it. They made enough profit on the original order to cover this error. :)

Would they return the money if you accidentally paid them twice? I bet it would be more of a hassle on their end if you did return it.

Let them know, chances are they'll tell you to keep the extra merchandise, as Smoak said.

I would actually call the company and tell them they sent more than 1 product. This has happened to me before. If you tell them that you arent going to pay to ship it back at ur cost, they will either give you their billing info to give to Fedex or they will just tell you to keep it.

Last time they just told me to keep it.

I would donate the second set of equipment to kids who can't afford it.

well, they're 130 dollar keeper gloves (in one of the larger sizes they make). i doubt that there are any kids they'd fit, though i could be wrong.

as has been said previously, call them up, let them know the situation, and they'll most likely let you keep it. I had a situation a couple of years back, a Logitech joystick I bought broke but was still under warrantly, so Logitech promised to replace it - they ended up shipping me two wireless keyboards (each worth 100 dollars) before actually shipping me the joystick, I told them of the error both times and they were just like "keep it, our mistake"

...I should've sold one on eBay :D but instead I gave one to my dad, and use the other keyboard myself...

son of a...they want them back, but they're going to require me to find a UPS store...maybe there isn't a metro accessible one?

This is where you tell them that they will have to pickup the package. You shouldnt have to go and take them to the UPS store. Thats an inconvience to you for their mistake.

I agree with this. You did the right thing by calling them, but if they asked me to drop it off somewhere I'd tell them where to go.. it's not your fault they messed up.

I would even go as far as. I will leave it outside until you can get someone to come pick this up.

Of course they wont like that answer but it will let them know that you are serious about not being inconvienced.

I'd say call them back and make the following statement:

"I am not going to inconvenience myself taking your merchandise to a UPS store when you were the ones who made the mistake in the first place. I could have easily kept the merchandise, but instead called to report the discrepancy in shipping. I believe it fair that an employee of your company would come pick up the erronious merchandise."

...or something along those lines. Its not your fault they screwed up, you shouldn't be inconvenienced for their mistake...

Honestly... I'd call and complain that I have yet to receive the order. Obviously they are not organized and need to be punished.

Tell them that they made the mistake and that if they expect you to take the stuff to a ups store and stand in line then you expect to be compensated.
Tell them that you could have just kept it and not said anything. :)

Tell them there's no way in hell you're going to mail it back to them. Tell them you're a very busy man and have no time for this nonsense. It's their problem, no ifs or buts about it.
