Just some food for thought until the schedule comes out at 2pm.

Expect many more "leaks" to happen before 2...

Please defer all questions about the 4th Annual HailRedskins.com Tailgate. I can tell you the following details:

1] We will have one;
2] It will be great;
3] The Redskins wouldn't dare ruin it by losing;
4] Kenny's wonderful wife will have some tasty vittles;
5] Buterbaugh will get drunk and vomit on Perdue's shoes.

Other than that, the details are still being worked out. The Admins have already begun a discussion on this topic and we will pick a tailgate date sooner than ever this year. We hope everyone will make an effort to attend, as some of us would like to tell you what we think of you right to your face!

I like having a late bye week. But we better get back in the groove quickly because after the bye we've got a mean stretch of games into the middle of December. However, Gibbs teams always seem to peak around the end of november, heading into december so I'm not too concerned. Barring any majoy injuries we should be alright.

CBS, which does the AFC games, and Fox, which does the NFC, each has the option to protect five games in the seven weeks of flexible scheduling, but can't protect more than one game per week.

We get five Nationally televised games (good for us fans across the Nation), A bye in the middle of the season (could help in the fatigue/injury factor in the playoffs), no especially long road trips, across time zones, play Dallas AFTER bye and a three week "Homestand near the end of the regular season (less stress). I should think the Staff will be happy. Now I did'nt read the whole schedule, so how many home games do the Giants have this season?

I WAS JUST ABOUT TO POST THIS!!!

I think we get hosed here folks. Two division opponents get to host us coming off a bye!!??? Plus on of the league's best teams gets to host us after a bye??

Well now that I know you are going I do feel better. But that will be an awfully tough game for sure as we really single-handidly kept them out of the playoffs and whipped them twice. I know they'll be ready...

But I know we will as well. This might be the single best season for Redskins football in YEARS in terms of the competitiveness and drama! We have to sweep the NFC at home and find a way to steal one on the road.

Phillys end of the year schedule is killer. They wont make it out alive.

They have a tough end to the season but look at the first 6 weeks: Houston, NY, SF, Packers, Dallas, and NO. They could easily start 4-0 and finish at least 5-1 if not 6-0.

That should set them up nice for the tough run at the end.

smoak

Folks, I think we got bent over on the schedule.

Not only do we go to NY, Philly and Indy after their byes, but our division opponents play easier schedules. The Iggles do not play anyone coming off their bye. The G-men go to Atlanta. dallass gets to host houston and go to Washington and Arizona.

Am I giving this stat too much weight? I just feel we are this seasons Chargers (good team with a brutal schedule that misses the playoffs). Does anyone know the combined record of teams coming off their bye?

Agrawog
04-06-2006, 05:37 PM
I have not seen a thread for this so I am starting one. Here is our 2006 schedule. My completely thorough and impartial analysis puts us a 12-4 if we sweep Dallas or 11-5 if we split. The schedule has a week 8 bye and 6 of our last 8 games are at home with the two road games eminently winnable. Pretty good.

What do you think?

1 - Vikings (Win)
2 - @ Cowboys (Not sure)
3 - @ Texans (Win)
4 - Jaguars (Win)
5 - @ Giants (Loss)
6 - Titans (Win)
7 - @ Colts (Loss)
8 - bye
9 - Dallas (Win)
10 - @ Philly (Loss)
11 - Tampa Bay (Win)
12 - Carolina (Loss)
13 - Atlanta (Win)
14 - Philly (Win)
15 - @ New Orleans (Win)
16 - @ St. Louis (Win)
17 - Giants (Win)

If we go 13-3, I do not see how we don't win a Super Bowl. This murders row and I hope the pl;ayers are mentally ready and build on the momemtum from late last season.

Pretty good schedule. At least 3 primetime national broadcasts. The colts game should be a "feature" game as well. I should be able to see quite a few games. :)

At least we have a good buy week. Plus I am looking forward to see our D playing indy, heck i wish we could play denver again this year, that always seems like a good game. Plus don't forget Dallas is going to be a joke this year after TO and Bledsoe fight it out to the death and they both lose, and not to mention their possible lack of having a coach.

I'm estatic about the bye week placement. That'll do wonders for our guys. Based on last seasons results, we have a damn hard schedule. We're playing some really good teams. Should be fun.

The Giants' beginning of the schedule is outrageous. Philly's end to the schedule is just unfair. Three straight division road games??? Wow, I'd be ticked if I were them.

Playing three teams coming off a bye week sucks, but I think we're in good shape. I love our home games this year, we're not wasting any home games on cupcake teams. We have a nice bye week.

I think us and Dallas are in the best positions so far this year. If I were I Giants or Eagles fan I'd be very upset at how my team starts and ends the season respectively.

Our schedule is fine, only Dallasses is easier and they could very well start 1-3. The Giants are going to have their backs to the wall by week 9 or 10 with their brutal first half of the season. The Eagles will not be happy over the holidays with their 4 out 5 games on the road against all 3 division rivals and Indy, with Carolina being the home game...ouch.... and you're worried about playing a few teams after their bye?

Good post. It could have been a lot worse for us. I hope the Giants enjoyed their division title because it just netted them by far the hardest schedule in the division. They have to play games against Seattle and Chicago while we get St. Louis and Minnesota? Look at the way they start their season, Camp Couglin will be scratching and clawing their way to get back in the race.

I will be SCOUTING ALL COLTS GAMES LEADING UP TO THE REDSKINS GAME> I will be at the Colts vs. Redskins game, have provided a REFERENCE Marker for ALL in the ARCHIVES in HR (See MAIN Forum page please).

This game is placed in a very important spot for this town, as I am sure it is for the Skins. The Colts like to bombard the team they face just after the break. They will stop at nothing to have this game. Dallas loves it, because we face them coming off the break. However, the Skins AREN'T the OLD team it used to be, and with NEW players, with greater abiliities than the former, and some even younger, it won' t matter to the Skins, except to get the W.

Yeah, but whenever you play the teams we all play the same ones (except the two discretionary games). We also play Carolina at home. I just remember thinking it was unfair that the Chargers had to play three or four team coming off bye weeks and they ended up not making the playoffs despite being a good team.

Either way, we just have to beat the Iggles, dallass, and Gnats.

This schedule is fair and manageable for our team but to tell the truth.....I dont give a rats what our schedule looks like this year. Maybe a year or 2 ago i would have analzyed every game and where it falls but this year i think we have the team to over come all that. Who cares if and when we play Dallas we beat them up and down the street last year and we beat them in Dallas on Monday night Early in the season at a freaking Ring of Fame ceremony. This years Skins team is different we all saw last year we can beat any team at home this year we just need to take that sucess a step farther and beat any team regardless of situation. I want some home playoff games so I want no excuses we need to show up every week. Dang im fired up.

I dunno... seeing as the Chargers missed the playoffs by one game, I'd say there's actually a very good chance they sat at home because of that.

Playing three teams coming off of bye weeks is nothing compared to the three game road trips that both Dallas and Philly got stuck with this year. I just read an article from Dallas that said only 32 of 92 teams in NFL history to ever play 3 straight road games have ever made the playoffs. On the flipside, the Skins have a three game homestand this year.

Dallas also starts with 6 of their first 9 on the road. The Giants open with 4 out of their first 6 on the road and an absolutely brutal first 7 games against Indy, @ Philly, @ Seattle, Washington, @ Atlanta, @ Dallas, Tampa Bay.

I think we got the kindest schedule in the division.

I think that combined with their travel schedule made the Chargers schedule the toughest in '05. After the schedule was released, I just remember thinking, "Wow, that is one tough scheduel and they won't make the playoffs". What kills my argument is that I think they were in a playoff position coming down the stretch and crapped it away.

I just wish the NFL made it fair in terms of # of teams played after a bye. We got to NY, Philly, and Indy all after a bye and al;l are what I consider playoff caliber teams. Two of the teams are in our division. We can salivate over getting dallass after a bye week without being concerned about these games.

Either way, I actually like tough schedules b/c it makes teams playoff rady. Look at last year... We had a tough schedule and won a road playoff game.

So bring it on baby!

I agree on the three game road schedule, but we all play the same opponests except the two games that are slotted based on where you finished. The Giants "earned" that tough schedule by winning the division so I hope they enjoy it.

Honestly, I think the Giants are a very decent bet to start 1-3 or 0-4, and that is going into two road games against Atlanta and Dallas. How do you think Eli and Couglin will react to that? Tiki and Plaxico would probably be calling out the coaching staff before their bye week!

I think you're over estimating the value of the bye. As it turns out, statistically there is NO advantage coming off the bye.

BE WARY OF THE BYES. From Ben Sank of Bethesda, Md.: "Why doesn't the NFL coordinate bye weeks so that after a bye each team plays one of the other teams that had a bye? Having a week off prior to a game is clearly an advantage. This seems like an easy way to make the schedule more fair. This bothers me because the Redskins have to play two division rivals, Philadelphia (Nov. 12) and the Giants (Oct. 8), after their byes."

Good thought. I hope someone at 280 Park Avenue is reading this.

Idk if this has been brought up yet but I agree with this guy teams on bye's should have to play eachother makes everything more fair. I'm sure Gibbs is aware though and is already making adjustments for this.

That worries me slightly, but this coaching staff does more work in one week than most probably do in a month.
