Not a good way to start the season.
"He had a huge open wound on his leg," Tyer said. "We're treating it with antibiotics and watching it very closely. We don't want to take any chances with an infection."

Nick Mangold may have just been put onto our board. Can he play gaurd as well? I hope Rabach gets better though because we need continuity on that line. No more ATV's for u mister!

clearly you've never watched jackass, as long as it moves, theyll find a way to hurt themselves with it...
yeah they should be more careful, but its not like they are going to spend their whole offseason at home twiddling their thumbs. im not happy about the injury, but it doesnt bother me since its april, and we have another 4-5 months before the season starts.

That's true...we sometimes forget these are 20 something men. I can easily think of 5 times I should have been majorly injured when I was 20 something from doing something stupid, and I was never an athlete who enjoyed rick as most football players do.

I think if you read the article and read a little in between the lines you'll see that although it was probably an ugly injury at the time its not too big a deal. It happened early enough that they could perform the surgery and with what happened to Noble they have and will continue to take every precaution to avoid any possible infection.
With the fact that there doesn't seem to have been any structural damage, its probably gonna end up being a nice scar and cool story to tell throwing a few back at bar in a few years: 'Did I tell you about the time I did this?'

now now now.......We could put them in a padded room too.............They have to live life and experience it to the fullest (ok not quite to the fullest)
but there is definatly some balance here, I might be a little on the liberal side but ATVs.....................we need players with fire and there is a small risk in haveing players with agressive nature but it is a lot better than having a bunch of consertive pansies...imo:)

Also not happy about this but at least it happened in early April and not later in the summer closer to camp. He should be fine. I really think Ceratto needs to begin including an atv complete prohibition for all our players' contracts. They are providing too many headaches. Good luck in recovery Casey.

come on people, you expect these guys to do nothing. for all we know rabach could of been riding around nice and easy thru the woods on a 4wheeler and ran over the end of a funky stick that popped up and punctured into his leg. its happened to me before so its certainly possible. we have no evidence he was out rough riding and power shifting and being an idiot or fool. he has no broken bones, its like a giant sized cut. like i said earlier his biggest worry is the chance of infection. these guys have lives and like to get outside and do stuff just like we do and i dont and wouldnt expect them to stop.

Barring infection, he will be fine. They don't play any games in April.
I guess this was the only way Rabach was gonna get cut this year!:)
I hope that they sign or draft someone else to back up the interior of the line. I think they need another OT as well. I am not comfortable with the lack of proven depth at OL. Pucillo has been marginal, and Walter has barely hung on in the league. I liked what I saw of Molinaro, but he is still pretty much unproven.
For all those who pooh-pooh the draft, remember that the same year we drafted Molinaro, we spent a 5th-round pick on OT Mark Wilson from California. I think we even moved up in the round to take him, but I am not sure. If he had panned out, we would be a lot less worried about our depth on the line. This team has very little proven cheap depth anywhere, which is a testament to its total failure/lack of interest in the draft the last several years!
Just my 2 cents.

Another case of a player being exposed for having their head firmly planted inside their pooper.
I'm not sure I find much else more ridiculous or asinine in professional sports than athletes worth millions of dollars engaging in moronic activity, like riding ATV's. C'mon, Casey, you're smarter than this... We NEED ya, man!!

they said 3 weeks in a cast. that takes him through April. i'd guess it will take all of May, at least, to get strength and range of motion back in his leg. if the muscle was cut, which it sounds like it might have been since they said it was a huge open wound, it could take longer. in any event, the time table sounds like he'll be ready for training camp and the opening of the season.
edit:
quote: Rabach required surgery to repair the wound on his left leg, ankle and calf muscle.

I think all our players should be placed in a protective bubble for the entire offseason to prevent this type of thing from happening in the future. This should be in all the new contracts and for players like sean taylor we should consider requiring a bullet proof bubble.

I know that is a joke but knowing where to draw the line in dangerous situations for our players in the offseason is interesting. I kind of feel bad telling the players to curtail their offseason activites because they are human beings, but one major injury could create MASSIVE instability in an organization that could last for a LONG TIME. Imagine if Portis or Washington went down for their career while bungee jumping or something. The repercussions would reverberate throughout the Redskins organizations for years. In fact, they may never recover over a decade or so.
I would like the players to agree to avoid any fast moving, open aired, and restraintless activities over the offseason.

Here is a solution- The league should allow for an Offseason Major Injury Cut and Cap Insurance clause. If included in a contract it would allow teams to essentially have a get a out jail free card if a player incurred a major injury during the offseason. The implications would be the player could be instantly cut pending a leagure review that verifies the injury is in fact career ending or voids the player's ability to play for a majority of their contract When this clause is executed the player it affects is instantly cut, however they receive the remainder of their pay. But this clause serves as cap insurance, so even though the player is cut from the roster and paid the team is not penalized for the resulting pay after the injury.
THink something like that might come about?

How about the player is forced to pay the team the value of his salary?
I think we'd see some mighty careful thinkin' by some of these players before they start partaking in bonehead activities.

The money would not be the only thing that a team could lose if a guy went down. Some players are very hard to replace and the loss of a key one could completely upset a franchise.
I don't think a player should still be paid if they are not playing because of a self-inflicted injury.

the 53rd pick would probably yield one of the top centers or guards in the draft. historically speaking, some of the more glamorous skill positions get picked over early on, while some of the blue-collar, lunch-pail type positions are still available later on, like centers, guards, fullbacks, blocking TE's, middle linebackers...all of which we could use.

again, respectfully, you are not realizing the extent of MRSA (bad staph) in sports locker rooms and in professional athletes having surgery... the rams almost had to shut their locker room down. it can be lethal, and it is highly contageous. plus, we are not talking about the hospital variety now, it is the community and sport facility type that is so prevalent and destructive now.
if you want a real eye opener go to web.md and find the info on MRSA...
and as much as i respect what bubba might be saying i can tell you from both personal and professional knowledge it is beyond scary, and until casey is healed up and totally out of risk, i will be holding my breath for him...
