The Redskins are trying to trade Kenny Watson and a late draft pick for DT Ellis Wyms of Tampa Bay.

WOW! Man, I'd have a hard time departing ways with Watson...He's had a great TC so far. This could come back and bite us in the arse. Hell, trade Betts.......;)

When did you hear that DOGG?

Who's got the 411 on this Wyms? Spence...CarMike?

I don't see that happening Tampa has like 5 running backs already. They already traded for Thomas Jones earlier this offseason and he looked good in Japan.

Hollywood, I've heard that Thomas Jones isn't doing a lot in TC. So, they may still be looking for a RB.

As for the DT Ellis Wyms, I wonder how good he is? If Tampa is willing to part ways with him for a undrafted RB plus a late round draft choice, it doesn't seem like he's the type of DT that we need. Just more depth.......

Just my .02 cents

oh

According to ESPN.com Wyms is 6'3 and 279 pounds and is listed there as a defensive end.

Man, thats interesting Hollywood. He seems awfully light in the arse to be a DT. When are they going to realize that we need big body in the middle instead of trying to move DEs over to DT position? Oh well, they're the coaches......

That would seeem like a panic trade to me and the FO said they would be patient. In no way do I want the Club to trade away any of our RBs. But if they are, I would want the FO to wait till after we play New England, Jacksonville, Baltimore and Carolina. All of whom have a lack of depth, if not a starter of our RB class. The backs will show off and be more valuable.

Does not seem like a good trade for the Redskins, but if it is true it probably indicates a certain level of panic at Redskins Park about the state of the defensive line.

Pyms rotates between DE and DT, but he's not a giant. He weighs about 280 lbs, which is fine for a DE, but small for a DT. He's not a big space-eater who can occupy two blockers at once. He's played one year in the league, never started a game, and was a sixth round pick.

Seems to me like Watson is worth more than that guy, but never count on what desperate men might do.

I hear that he had 5.5 sacks last year in his rookie year. He floated between DE and DT, so I don't know if those sacks were at End or Tackle. In any event, that sounds better than Wilkinson (plus this guy is young). Might be of the Kenard Lang ilk. Don't know much else about this guy, BUT I WOULD HATE TO LOSE WATSON OR ANY OF OUR OTHER QUALITY BACKS. I'm wondering if Tampa would be interested in a trade for Thad Buttone (FB) and Richmond Flowers (WR)??? LOL!!

He had 6 sacks last year, but that was done on the greatest DL in the league. He'd get more attention here. I don't see a Warren Sapp or a Simeon Rice getting double-teamed on every down playing for our team.

I would be in favor of trading Watson and a late rounder for a worthy DT. We desperately need help there. This guy from TB doesn't appear to be the answer though. Watson may not make the squad for us anyway depending on the no. of RBs kept. He may be the Sage Rosenfels of 03.

Yeah, I agree with all that. Like you, I'd need to know more about this Pyms fellow before endorsing the trade. Stats for players on the Tampa DL can be deceiving due to the talent level of their linemates. Sort of like playing on the same line with Guy LaFleur or Wayne Gretzky.

Yeah, I suppose if this TB guy has a motor, ala John Randal, his size wouldn't be a problem. The FO is thinking pressure in the backfield or upfield push maybe. I have no idea if this guy can really play though. I don't remember him at all from TB games that I saw. I like that the FO is willing to deal for a DT though.

That sucks. Kenny Watson deserves to be the starting RB.

Might be an insider rumor.

From all accounts, trung still looks like he should deserve to play. Betts looked good last year. Morton is the kick returner. Watson was solid last year too, just as good as betts, but the upside has to go to Betts.

I think they should get more value, but it's possible that they'll get nothing for Watson. He won't make it to the PS, someone would pick him up. Trade some depth for need? I'd say hell ya.

Not sure about this Tampa player, but if they got someone who was pretty decent value i'd be for it. I don't like losing Watson, but if it was better for the team...

If we trade Kenny, lets make it for a big DT not another DE-DT tweener, we need a big DT and that is the only type trade I will be happy with. Wonder if Mario Monds is still in Cincy?:D

lets get Booger Mcfarland away from the bucks...Would love to have a guy on the team named Booger. :)

now that is a trade I like,TexSkin. What is even better than his name is the fact he can play.....:D Just think next year we can go after Sapp. You know Danny will look into it, or atleast the papers will have him coming here either way

Whyms is great in the Bucs system and if we're bringing him to play DE then I wouldn't be exited either but that would be the better option. Maybe they're planning to move Wynn inside or something...

hmmm...i dont know what to think of this RUMOR. remember guys, its just a rumor. i like watson a whole lot, but he will be the odd man out IMO, so we should get something for him. why not a trade with new england? ive heard of ellis wyms, just dont know much about him. but like you guys, no tweeners! they seem to have a lot of capable DLineman and kenny watson would be perfect for that offense. plus, i dont like tampa bay and would not want to see a player that i like with a team that i hate.

Also he would fit at DT if we are going to a system more like the cowboys (george edwards was there) where you have a BIG dt like noble and a smaller one like Wyms to slant in and get pressure up the middle. the cowboys have Leroi Glover as the smaller one and are looking for the BIG guy after we got Nobel. Just a thought as to why a BIG tackle may not be what we are looking for.

By the way I was at Cowboys training camp today with one of my friends that is a cowboys fan and we both agreed that their QBs are not doing well... We were also supprised by how quite and how far from the action Bill Parcells stayed throughout the practice.

As far as strategy goes, I don't see any team trading for one of the Redskins RB's before the season. That's not to say that they are not attractive, rather I think teams are sitting and looking at the Redskins roster composition and betting that we are not going to keep 4 Rb's. I think they would rather take their chances and try to sign either Betts or Watson as a FA after cuts.

RUMORS and only that ..... at least until Sunday/Monday. IF Noble, Haley, Cowsette, Jackson have good outing on Saturday I think DS/VC will wait to see what develops out of Chicago. Trading your #2 backup RB right now is crazy seeing how #1 has not proved himself yet. I don't think that George Edwards/Bob Nunn have put up the panic flag ......... YET.
