If the Skins go with the BPA {Best Player Available} who is better value if both Rocky McIntosh and Thomas Howard fall to us and a guy like Max Jean-Gilles.
I really like Jean-Gilles and think that he is a first rounbd talent, but I don't know if our need at OLB superseeds that.

Id really have to see the whole board but to me gilles seems like a guy I personally dont want. I want either Davin Joseph or one of the good TEs if we go offense otherwise I want a corner.

I would take thomas howard if he was there. If not i would go with Mcintosh.

I would rather go corner... I want to see what Clemons can do.

If the choice is the fourth or fifth best Linebacker vs. the best Guard or Tight End, I go Guard or Tight End. You are much less likely to get a bust player that way. Ultimately, it depends on how you define value in the draft. Positions of need might get a draft value "bump" on the draft board that influences how you look at them.

I think we will go BPA to a point. All of those three are about equal value to the team but OLB need outweighs oline need...thats the tie breaker.

I've heard good things about Howard so he would be my pick, but I wouldn't be opposed to Jean-Gilles. I'm glad we have the luxury of going BPA.

I think Clemons is going to shock everyone and have a really solid year. Anything has to be better than Holdman. Everyone has to take into account that Dockery may not be here next year, and getting Giles would be a motivation for him to step up his game.

In your scenario it goes...
1.GIles
2. Howard
3. Rocky
Id take them in that order GIles would provide awesome depth and is the best gaurd in the draft IMO. You could afford to let Dockery go after the year although i think Dock is a good to potentially real good gaurd already. Howard has the most upside of the 2 others IMO. Rocky would be the best of the rest as he will probably be real solid and has an NFL body already. But to answer your real question if Giles or someone of his caliber falls yes we should take BPA unless it is WR, QB or Safety and probably RB.

i hope you are right about clemons.. if he makes it as starter we will have among the most athletic linebackers anywhere

I would go with the OG under that scenario. I would rather take the best OG in the draft rather than the 6th best OLB in the draft.
I still think we trade up. Gibbs is simply creating a smokescreen.

i agree totally. even though outside linebacker is pretty much the only position without a starter already penciled in, i'm happy with the competition between Clemons and Holdman for that spot and i dont think a rookie is going to beat out both of those guys. we dont have to reach for a need so we are in position to take the best available, and guards and centers will not have been picked over nearly as much as OLB's.
i also agree that we might still trade up, but for what player, who knows. it just makes it all the more intriguing, and it means i will have to stay glued to the draft from noon on...

Right now Davin Joseph is the consensus best guard in the draft and personally I'd stay away from any player with Gilles' flags (work ethic, weight controll)
Also, Gilles simply cannot pull whereas Dockery has shown he's at least adequet in that area.

dockery is huge. if you look at the interior of the Chiefs and Broncos lines, they are not all that big. the tackles are pretty big, but the guards and centers are more in the mold of athletic guys who can move, not the big road graders like Dockery. i think we need a guy like that for the zone blocking schemes and for being fast enough to pull and get around the edge in front of a fast back. i'd actually like to see Dockery drop a few pounds.

Im not a fan of taking a o-lineman with our 2nd round pick. Because first an o-lineman will not impact this team next year. (As a rookie) 2nd I think Dock will have a good year.(I dont know why everyone keeps saying he needs to be replaced) 3rd we have more needs on defense. And if for some reason there is no tallent worth the #53 pick simple as that trade down.

If Dock has a really good year then he's gonna want big money next year..and I'm not so sure we can afford to give it to him..that could be why some people are talking about replacing him..
If there's nobody worth taking with #53 it's gonna be pretty tough to trade down..

Jean-Gilles would normally be a great additon, but his weight problem raises a red flag. Pass on him.
Between McIntosh and Howard, I would go with the former. Howard has better measurables, but McIntosh is the better football player (at least right now). There is the concern that Howard may just be a combine workhorse. If McIntosh did not have some injury concerns, there would have been no chance for him to fall to #53. As is, it's dicey that he would. So, getting him at that spot would be a steal.

Yes to Davin Joseph, but an emphatic NO to any TE (unless it is Vernon Davis).

If you want a versatile OLineman that can play guard or tackle, Charles Spencer of Pitt would be better suited than Jean-Gilles.
