Even still, I've always been a Ricky Williams fan. I believe that even after sitting out this season he could still be somewhat effective when he comes back in 2007. If he comes back that is. I was just watching NFL Total Access and David Cornwell, the guy that had a big part in the writing of the NFL's drug policy said that he was even surprised at the judgement and that they presented a pretty damn good argument but I guess it wasn't enough. Oh well, it was great while it lasted.

I just don't understand how in the hell people can throw away money like that. When I think of dumb, this guy comes straight to my mind. Throw away millions of dollars in money for nothing. Well, for some damn weed. You have got to be kidding me!:lol1:

See here is one of the rare time I will show compassion for a pro athlete. Ricky seems like a nice person who just likes to smoke. I wonder what was in his system to cause him to fail? Anyway, nice or not he is stupid for throwing away all that money... How is that for compassion?

my eldest daughter had him in a class or 2 at the U T austin and said he was the most un-jock like football player she had ever met. he was a "surfer dude" in a mammoth body. soft spoken, polite, intelligent.. she said he was really nice. and not a person to whom football was life itself.

but, i think he has lost control of his appetites and only the threat of financial ruin caused him to come back in the first place. doesn't look good for him now.

i shouldn't crack wise about him and i do not really rejoice in any pain he has caused himself but truly all his wounds are self induced.

i hope he finds himself before something far worse than a blown football career happens to him

I have trouble feeling sorry for him, since I was drug tested for 13 years at my last job, making a small fraction of his salary. I was tempted many times during that period, I started there at 19 years old but I was responsible enough to not blow it. He could make all the money he and his children would need for life and retire in his 30's, then smoke up all he wanted while living large.
Sorry, no sympathy here.

Wonder if he comes back from this - he has his money now right? What an idiot. We all know what his true passion is ... and it's not the NFL.

lmao! gimme a sec.....

the jails in louisiana were full of people who did less than rickie.. so far he was lucky his exalted status as a pro athlete gave him a pass for activity that ended very badly for others..

he may not get that kind of pass any longer.. dumb or not, he better get control of his life

I doubt Ricky smoked weed. He has been adament that he didn't smoke it, and both his mother and Nick Saban believe him.

If Ricky only came back so he didn't have to pay the money back to the Dolphins, why get in playing shape and work hard to become the player he was before he left. He had a very solid year last season considering he missed 4 games and finished with 2 100+ yard outings. I wouldn't be surprised if it was something in the herbs and junk he uses from yoga and new age crap.

In the end, if it is the end for him, why feel sorry for him. Sure, he has the talent to be a great back, but if his heart isn't in it, why be mad at him for it.

It may not have been weed this time and I also believe it probably wasn't but it was the weed that got him in this situation. Had he never failed a drug test, this would have been a minor penalty but he used up all his chances and now faces suspension for probably the ingredients in an allergy or cold pill.
Again, he made his own bed....

nobody is saying what it was... but chances it is something because you don't usually get a year for cold pills--even if it is a repeat offense..

i feel sorry for him as i would for anyone whose life is out of control. not giving him a pass, but i feel sorry for him nevertheless.

I was referring to ephedrine or pseudoephedrine with my cold pill comment. Both are banned substances just like marijuana, cocaine, etc. I don't think there is a difference in what the substance is, if you test positive, the penalty is the same. Julius Peppers had a suspension for testing positive for ephedrine.

i understood where you were going, but each league or sport has it's own group of banned substances for reasons of it's own. the nba does, or did not, even have pot on their list whereas the olympics clearly had ephedra on theirs.
nobody is saying what substanced caused rickie's problem and while it could be ephedra, i somehow think it is not. i could be wrong. i once read about a guy who got into all sorts of trouble because of eating a bunch of poppy seed rolls at exactly the wrong time. somehow i just don't think it was a case of taking one too many no-doz tablets at the wrong time...

Did anybody else notice that dug can also mean a breast or teat. Definately using that one next trip to the strip club.

On Ricky, well, this might not be a bad thing. Most RBs are done by the time they hit 30. He has had 2 full years (albeit one was with limited to no training and this one still not completed) to let his body rest. If the Dolphins do take him back, they will get a well rested power runner who understands the game better than most rookies. He would provide a great change of pace back for most teams.

Let him go chase his wacko dreams now. He was given something that most of us would give an ear to have, enough talent to play pro ball. He took it for granted no matter what anyone says. He's not the first and he won't be the last but I will not feel bad for any one of them either.

I will say this:

It's hard for me to believe that someone that has that kind of talent and OPPORTUNITY to play in the NFL for some serious cash allows himself to get caught doing whatever drugs (dope, hash, coke) and lose a job that anyone one of would love to do and get paid for!!!!!!!!! :banghead:

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Ricky knew the consequences. Now it's time to pay them....again......and again.....and again....if he violates the policy again, isn't he out of football for good?

its different in his situation though. he's a professional athlete, in order for him to keep his job, he must be clean. as for the average person, what they do in their own time is up to them. if he wants to smoke more than keep an incredible job that people would love to have, then thats where the out of control part becomes true.

The path that Ricky has chosen for himself has been played out over and over by many young people. Ricky just happens to be a NFL player who was also a high profiled college standout which means he'll be judged by a greater number of people. He's only in the late 20's and has time to straighten himself out and have a very productive life .......... IF he chooses to. ................ BUT Ricky Williams as a NFL player - just doesn't seem to fit him. He really doesn't have the desire and maybe heart to dedicate himself to pro football. And to be honest - I don't have a problem with that. I just hope he finds his ture calling and is as successful as he can be at it (as I would for any other young person).
