No offense Redblood but all these bio's could go in the undrafted free agent thread. If you make a thread for every one of these guys, it is going to take the whole board and none of them are worth more than a couple posts of discussion.

This one bothers me. Why even take a guy that lets crowd noise rattle him?
This is NOT a typical signing for a Gibbs team at the punter position. I am confused.

this guy sounds a lot like the other guys we took in the draft: Intelligent and full of potential. The evaluation leads you on to believe that he can fix his strength problem by just bulking up for it since he was room on his frame (anybody notice how prospects end up sounding more and more like machines?)

Feel bad for the kid, but great for us! Definitely will be out to get vindication for being projected as high as the 2nd round but going undrafted. Butkus Award Semifinalist as a Jr and Sr, led team in tackles as a freshman and every year after that (402 tackles in 4 seasons as a starter, 11 interceptions = great hands, played extensively on special teams as well. (Let's see what GW can do w/THIS one...;)

if you read the entire bio on this guy, it is fascinating. he has had a long road to travel to get here. he could be a steal.
Onyenegecha's mother is deceased and his father was deported to Nigeria before he ever met him. He lived in various foster homes throughout his life and lived with his coach, George Rush, at San Francisco City College for two seasons. Rush signed as Onyenegecha's legal guardian on his letter of intent to ASU.

Threads merged on undrafted FA bios.
Thanks for merging ISF!
And many thanks to ThatGuy from TheWarpath.net, who provided the Bios on all the Draftees and UDFAs. I put the Bios on Draftees with the individual thread already posted on the Draftee.
I only provided a simple conduit from TheWarpath.net to HailRedskins.com.
It is difficult to know about any player, much less our Draftees and UDFAs without a Bio/Profile.
We talk endlessly about our FAs when FA open up, and certainly our first choice in the NFL Draft, and maybe our second pick and third picks, but few fans really see the "real" player in players taken latter or picked up as UDFAs!
Some of these guys have character issues, but don't we all. For example, Fenner is as fast as snapping your fingers, but had been in a fight.
Of course, we all would want 40 times, shuttle times, bench presses, and Wonderlic, and some Bios have it, others the information is not there, but hey, you take what you can get.
One even has a missing year! I'll leave you in suspense!
CarMike

Just read Frank Cooney's evaluation (ex-NFL scout). Havner was rated the best available FA after the draft at ILB. Reads like a SAM, however, as he is really good in space. Negatives related to ILB abilities - trouble with big guards at the point of attack. Very instinctive with best performances in the biggest games. Was a two year semi-finalist for both the Lombardi and Butkus awards. Negatives for the pros included not doing the little things like weight room (needs to be pushed) and an injury history (shoulder, ankle).
Cooney rated ability at round 3 - 4. He will get serious about football on other than game days or be gone as I read it. Look at Marcus Washington's cap hit in 2008 and you get an idea why it is worth seeing if Havner has what it takes at SAM, which he also played at UCLA.

he seems pretty solid, like he could be a special teamer and maybe a back up. if he turns out that way this would be a huge steal. The only thing is we have so many lbs now that he may have a hard time making the team. if so i say keep him on the practice squad and develop him some more.

Wow!
He earned Iron Terp status in 2005, posting a 41-inch vertical jump, 330-pound bench, 530-pound squat and a 693 strength index, best among receivers.
Combine that with a sub 4.4 40 time and Fenner will be an interesting kid to watch, even if we are loaded at WR.
You have to love what Gibbs and Co. are doing here. Competition EVERYWHERE and the best players move on, no matter where they were from, how high they were taken or how much they are paid.
That's a winning philosophy to me. Bring 'em on!!!

Fenner's got deceptive strength and apparently unchanneled energy. Saunders likes to tailor the action around the player to max the effort. Like he did for the guys in St. Louis - Az-Hakim tailoring perhaps???

I LOVE the idea of bringing in all these raw, physical specimens. Heck, if you're gonna field the greatest coaches in the NFL, why not pair them with intelligent, gifted, hard-working athletes who might only need "coaching up". That sounds pretty scary to me.
Look out, NFL...

I was pretty impressed for a kid that wasn't even drafted. He definitely seemed like he could hit and had great instincts. Looked maybe a tad short but that can be overcome. If anything, he should compete for quality depth which is always desirable.

More on Fenner:
Fifth-year receiver who enters his second season as a starter ... will again work at the "X" receiver spot ... showed the ability to get downfield in his sophomore campaign - averaging 27.8 yards per reception -- but was slowed somewhat by injury last season ... a good blocking receiver ... very athletic player who blazed to a 4.37 in the 40-yard dash in the spring, the second-fastest time on the team ... earned Iron Terp status

The more competition the better. You made a point about Marcus Washinton's cap number in 2008, I don't see that being an issue. We will restructure Washington and make his numbers more cap freindly. I truly believe that he has found a home here in D.C, but you never know.
But as far as this kid is concerned, if he can play then Gibbs & Co. will find a spot for him somewhere.

Even cutting that average in half, which is most likely to happen, still gives him an eye opening amount in the 3-5th spot. He' s gonna' at least push the heck out of somebody no matter who's on the roster. His speed is what the doctor ordered but he must demonstrate the ability to get around the savage and viscous NFL for a single catch. As the screws tighten and the whistling of the air holes in the helment increase from desparados fighting for a chance on the team, the tatoos will become memorable, because THIS is that special season!

Casual observers of the Skins had better take note of who we drafted and who we're bringing in this weekend. Honestly, the sheer physicality of this crop of players is pretty awesome. There will be some serious head-banging going on out there...
This idea of loading up on prospects and producing top-flight competition at each and every position -- you just have to figure that into the draft.
I know a lot of us have scratched our heads about the 2X2 approach these past seasons: first it was fullback, now it's DT and linebacker. We don't draft like anybody else, do we?
But whoa, now it's sinking in as we bring in DT after DT, running back on top of running back, receivers when we've already got a stable... we don't rest on our laurels and we hammer any signs of weakness. Need a WR? I'll give you 5. Need a DT? Let's try 7. Got a spot at linebacker? Let 11 wage war and let's see who comes out on top...
I'm telling you, Gibbs is gonna rock the house and pundits are gonna wonder where it came from. He thinks different, and his approaches are sound. It's just the rest of us who need time to smell what the master chef is cookin'.
There's nobody like our Joe. Thank God (and Dan) he's on our side!

I was thinking the same thing, especially with Randel El on the roster who will take over punt return duties. Thrash has made a name for himself on special teams and has an amazing attitude and work ethic but his time may be running short.
Our top 4 recievers are pretty set but that 5th spot is going to be up for grabs. Wheather it be Thrash, Jacobs, or one of these rookies, let the best man win!

Easy. With many teams going to the 3-4 and the emphasis on speed at the outside linebackers, a 4.89 time will turn many off. I hate to give credit where the "Girls are concerned, but didn't Jimmy Johnson turn their franchise around by grabbing proven production over triangle numbers?

Couldn't agree more. It worked Gibbs 1. In a copycat league this emphasis on giving FAs a chance will once again make the 'Skins the promised land, ensuring the best will want to come here.

11 players with 9 or more years in the league, and that includes players that are no lock (Holdman, Thrash for instance, or are at veteran minimum like Albright). With the results of last year and the age of the team, Joe appears to have postponed cap hell and settled in for a long run.

Here's a bit of background on our UFA punter and the quest to get him. Makes for an interesting read -- can't wait to see how he does!

Recruit from Gold Coast gets the team he wanted
By Will Swanton
May 7, 2006
DAVE Lonie watched the National Football League draft on television. More to the point, he watched as much as he could while being bombarded with phone calls from the Washington Redskins, San Francisco 49ers, St Louis Rams and New Orleans Saints, all declaring their desire to sign him as a free agent the moment the draft was over.
The Redskins got their man.
Lonie, the Gold Coast backpacker who got into the sport while mucking around kicking balls at an American summer camp, was contacted shortly after putting pen to paper by Darren Bennett, who forged the path for Australians with prolific kicking capabilities to earn a fortune and take part in one of the most high-profile team competitions in the world.
Lonie left California to fly to his new home in Washington on Friday. Good times await.
"Darren was giving me a rundown on what it was like when he was doing it," Lonie said. "It's all a bit surreal. It's actually the team we were hoping I'd end up with. There should be a chance to get the main job straight away."
Lonie's pre-draft prediction that teams would use picks for non-kickers proved correct. He sat through the entire broadcast of the draft without having his name read out. Rather than being disappointed, Lonie said it was the best result. As a free agent, he could pick the team he wanted to represent rather than being ordered to a certain franchise.
"They're such a famous team," said the 26-year-old, who will make a minimum of $US250,000 ($324,000) in his rookie season.
"Four or five teams were keen. For whatever reason, kickers and punters are the last to be chosen even though we're one of the most important positions.
"It's just tradition. People say to me, 'Oh, you're a kicker?' I tell them, 'No, I'm an athlete who kicks.' "
It came down to a choice between the Redskins, Saints, 49ers and Rams. "They kept calling while the draft was on. They're calling the agent, the agent is calling me, they're all calling me, it was crazy," Lonie said. "The money being offered wasn't that much different between the teams. It was great to be able to make my own decision about a team.
"All the way across the board, Washington had the best deal. It was a really easy process and I couldn't be happier."
Washington's first game will be at home on September 11.

Slobberknocker,
that explains my optimism for supplanting Frost. I saw the other post about Danny Smith's comment on Frost's UPSIDE. Upside??? His punting is just as Smith said, inconsistent!
Thanks and I hope the new kid outplays Frost. Alll I want is a punt that constantly travels 40 yds or more. Not 28, 30, oops off the foot, etc. That's bs!

I hope he makes it. Frost is unspectacular and makes enough mistakes anyway, might as well give this guy a real chance.

During the draft, I kept hoping we'd burn a 6th or 7th on Plackemeier, the kicker from Wake Forest. Or somebody. Just for competition. Call me crazy, but I consider a good punter to be a crucial member of your defense, since after all football is a game of field position. Maybe I just grew up watching Ray Guy, who seemed to justify his high draft position with every kick.
Frost may ultimately win the job, but for goodness' sake, let's make things interesting at least. Just my opinion.
This will just add another dimension to an ultra-competitive pre-season, IMHO. That will only help us get stronger all around.

This one bothers me. Why even take a guy that lets crowd noise rattle him?
This is NOT a typical signing for a Gibbs team at the punter position. I am confused.
I know the last thing we need is another punter to screw up during the playoffs cough* Derrick Frost* with that fifteen yard punt in the playoffs

Can't say that I agree with your take that a punter is a "crucial member" of the defense. Check the NFL stats, and I think you will find that the top and the bottom punters don't differ that much in yardage (especially net yardage--the punt minus the return). To tell you the truth, I couldn't care less who punts for the Skins. I do think Lonie has a shot to make the team because he has a strong leg for kickoffs.
