ESPN is reporting from Bethlehem,PA tonight... (Eagles camp)... and they are saying that Dallas and the Skins are "one QB year away" from the playoffs... putting the race int he East between Philly and the Giants.
This what everyone says... and I can see the logic. Just hope Ramsey can prove them all wrong. Cant see the Giants as any good at all.

I hope they are wrong but how can you disagree with them as of right now...You can't unless you're a homer like me....:D

I think it's all on Ramsey, if he plays well and develops quicky then the 'Skins can be a playoff team but if not I think you guys are a year away. I think Patrick has plenty of Weapons at WR but not having a good RB could hurt him and prevent him from having as good a season as he could.

nyjunc, I agree with the first part of your post. But the second, people will be surprised. We have three solid RBs. Just because they aren't known in the circles of the NFL and fans doesn't mean they aren't good.
I look for big things from Trung, Watson, And Morton. Can't wait to see how they do tomorrow night...

Trung's a gamble. If he shows up like he did two years ago, we're gonna be laughing all the way to the bank, especially if he puts up another 193-yard game against the Eagles. If the Trung from last year shows up, he'll probably fall into the doghouse within a couple weeks. From the training camp reports, it sounds like the first Canidate is there. Very little fumbling, great speed, some big runs, nice catches.... Gotta see it in a game, though.
If Trung's out, Watson or Betts will go in. They're not spectacular, but as we saw last season, they can get the job done well. I'd rather have either of them than Stacey Mack, Thomas Jones, or Anthony Thomas, to name a few. Then, of course, there's Chad Morton, who's eerily turning into the next coming of Brian Mitchell in a damn hurry.

I don't know much about Watson but Trung had a HUGE opportunity in SL when Marshall went down and he didn;t take advantage of it and Morton has alot to prove as far as playing RB. Like I said in another thread I really like Chad and wish him well but I;m not sure he can be effective in the 3rd down RB role. I think he has the ability but ther's got to be a reason that 2 teams who needed 3rd dwon backs didn't use him in that role.

Watson reminds me a lot of Deuce Staley for some reason. I don't know what it is but when I see him run, I think about DS. With that said, if he can be as good DS, I'd be happy.
I know DS isn't a pro-bowler by any means. But, in Spurriers offense you don't have to be...

That 193 yds was against another green team- the Jets, not the Eagles and our run D was so bad at that point that anyone could have rushed for well over 100 yds against us. Teams were averaging near 200 yds rushing/gm for the first 5 or 6 games against us.

Hmmm.... Well, I seem to remember him having a big game against the Eagles. He had three 100+ yard games that year if I'm not mistaken.

I don't know we could make a run this year. Washington's got some solid RB's and they could easily have one of the top O-lines in the league to run behind. The problem has gotta be the D-line when december rolls around can Haley Noble Cowsette ect. stop the run consistently. But most importantly there's the man the face of the orginization Patrick Ramsey. Ramsey's got his speed reciever to throw to he's got his O-line to throw behind. If Ramsey can be this years Suprise QB ( A la Chad Pennington) then this can be a playoff team if not we could be in a bit of trouble. I just can't wait for this season.

It's gonna be tough for us this season. Gosh there are sooo many unanswered questions.

This seems to be the common story EVERY season!

I know and why is that. You would think at some point and time we would get it right.

Why does everyone listen to ESPN. You can't say if a team will or won't make the playoffs. They say the Cowboys will be in the playoffs next year when we all no that is far from true.

I can't believe that people say Trung didn't step up when Faulk went down......HE DID!! In 2001 he had 78 carries for 441 yards and 6 TDs with a 5.7 AVG (he only started 2 games) he also had 17 rec for 154 yds and a 9.1 avg. 2002 for what ever reason he was in Martz's DOGHOUSE (we don't know why -- there was nothing on the field to justify this -- Martz said that Lemar Gordon beat him out in training camp). Lets look at what Gordon did last year as Martz's "choice" to fill in for Faulk (who missed more time last year than 2001). Gordon: 65 carries 228 yds 3.5 average (he had 5 starts in 2002 vs. Canidate's 2 in 2001. hmmmm.... might be Rocket Science but it looks like Canidate made the better of his opportunity. Also Skins fans might remember that it was Canidate last year who almost BEAT us when Martz gave him one of his token 17 carries last year -- on the last drive he burst though for 22 yards and if not for a shoestring tackle (I don't recall by whom) he would have scored -- it was his ONLY carry of the game. (Gordon had 13 carries for 40 yards No TDs). Gordon also had 4 fumbles for the year -- the "fumbling" Canidate had 2 the year before. Yeah I guess I can see why Martz would want to hold on to Gordon over Canidate. How about you?

Skaggs, they say that for two reasons:
1. Bill Parcells turned around every team he's coached in two years.
2. Bill Parcells worked for ESPN.
They're a tad bit biased towards him, but at least they have facts to back it up.

Anyone who doesn't think Parcells will turn around Dallas hasn't been paying attention the last 20+ years. The guy took 3 laughing stock franchises and made them all SB contenders.

Streaks are meant to be broken, Junc.
I'm not saying I don't expect them to improve. They will. I just don't buy into the magical two-year formula. This is gonna be a godawfully tough division for a while, so I'd guess three, if not four years before the playoffs.

I think they'll be a playoff team next year. I think the strength of this division will shift from Phi/NYG to Was/Dal next season.

Heh, well I wouldn't mind that kind of change at all, but I feel more like the NFC East will start to resemble the AFC East.
Admit it, you're just a Skins fan at heart. ;)

I've never had any animosity towards the 'Skins until this offseason(we know why) but I think I'll be pulling for you guys again after our game. I despise the Giants and always wnat you to beat them so I've always kind of rooted for you.
