THE GOOD:
P-Barker looked good. A former probowler who stunk last year - will the real Barker please step forward? Looked better.

KR-Morton looks solid so far.

WR-Coles provided the lone highlight. Pulling in a pass from out-in-front & below-the-waist. Niiiicce.

TE-Robert Royal catches everthing. Love this guy. As I've told members of the pro-Gardner faction of Redskin Fans - Royal has better hands than Gardner.

RB-Sultan McCullough. Fastest man in th '03 Draft was a free agent pick-up. I know it was late in the game & vs. scrubs, but he's a rookie too. Man he looked sweet & a lot more rough-n-tumble than I expected a speedster. Time to try this guy earlier & against the better competition.

THE (not-so) BAD:
Offensive line. The starters were just-ok in the first quarter. The back-ups got killed. But for all Caroalinas short-comings that D-line is top of the league.

RB-Trung Canidate. Very so-so, a dropped pass, adequate runs but nothing more. One to watch in second game.

QB-Ramsey. eh, so-o. But early.

Deffense. Sure we made Rodney Peete & Steven Davis look good. But Come on! we pulled half the squad before the trip. And the other half by 2nd quarter with a 0-6 score.

THE FUGLY:
QB-Johnson. WoW, no wander they brought back Wuerffel.
QB-Wuerfful. WoW, who do we bring back for Danny??

Kick coverage. The biggest concern because these were the starters. Sheez, best coverage was the short one Barker kicked out of bound...BECAUSE IT WASN'T RETURNED 30-PLUS YARD!

Better than last year though- PU. And the other ones were pretty good, but got returned for 30plus yards. Coverage is stinkin, though.

Hey, I didn't think that Rob Johnson played that badly. He was 10-16 for 107 yards (in a little more than 1 quarter). He threw a touchdown pass (that was called back..........not HIS fault), plus HE WAS RUNNING FOR HIS FREAKIN' LIFE THE WHOLE TIME HE WAS IN THE GAME. I'm NOT a big Rob Johnson fan, but I think he performed admirably under the circumstances. Oooops. Almost forgot. This was his FIRST game in a completely NEW offensive system.

I was impressed with Barker. His first one was a boomer, looked like it traveled about fifty yards, and on another he managed to pin the Panthers on something like their own six. That 26-yarder was nasty, though.

And how in the world was Johnson bad? He was the best QB on the field last night.

I agree a lot of it wasn't his fault. The back-ups on the o-line got killed. But he looked like hell. And he should have taken the sack on the one play.I hope the news isn't too rough on him. You know how rough DC can be once a player gets in the doghouse.

redbeard, I have been one of the biggest rob johnson supporters since he left buffalo. You wouldn't believe how many foolish bills fans still hate the guy just because he replaced their backstabbing midget. The biggest problem people had with him was that he didn't know when to throw the ball away. You can't be upset with his play because he tried to do what people always complained about, and that was holding on to ball too long-sacks. I am glad he's finally learning how to play smart(when to throw the ball away when there isn't a play). The fact that your O-line was playing bad didn't help any qb that got in there either.

I still don't understand what you're talking about, Redbeard. Can you give an example or two? He looked very good to me.

Wasn't impressed with Canidate's running and to top it off he dropped a easy pass over the middle... Morton Looked average at best, a mere 18 YPR avg isn't gonna cut it for me with the money we paid him....

I was really impressed with Sultan. Carolina is above average in depth on defense so it wasn't against complete stiffs. I don't know how he is going to make the team though, Betts and Trung are guarenteed a spot and I don't think we can afford to carry two guys specifically for their special teams ability.

I was the first person to bash the Rob Johnson signign and the most critical. I gotta agree with skinsfan1906 though. I am not sure how you can say RJ played porrly. The guy was running for his life, made some nice passes and finished 10-16 for 107 yards. I am not sure whatelse you can ask when the guyd had three second sto get rid of the ball or eat dirt. OverallI woudl give RJ a B+

First I'm not upset at him at all. I do think he looked bad (it's certainly not a performance one would use to build a case for a starting job or new contract, fair enough? *lol*). It's nothing I'm going to hold against him though.

I know hes' been in many people's doghouses. But he's never been in mine. Personally, I felt he was overqualified as a back up. You may be relieved to know I'm very wary of the publics reasons for putting players in "the doghouse". I always thought Westbrook & Shuler were players who were unfairly "doghouse'ed".

JOE:
On Rob Johnson, he should have just taken the sacks instead of trying to unload it. Those were real ugly plays.

I remember seeing Shuler boo'ed in preseason. I was pretty pissed. No rookie should ever be boo'ed in preseason (except perhaps for unsportsmanlike conduct).

In anycase he never got a fair shake here, whether he had it or not.

He might have done better if he had fallen into a better system. I always was a Norv fan but as coach he was often overwhelmed, especially during his first years. The only system that could've been worse for Shuler to start into would have been if he had been a rookie under Richie Pettibone, as much as I loved the man.

I remember that game Redbeard. He was booed very loudly too.
