It seems to me as though the Fun-N-Gun has an achilles heel............THE BLITZ. If you guys remember, last pre-season, the ONLY game we lost was against New England, and they were the first team to feed us a steady dose of the BLITZ.

Last year during the regular season, the New Orleans Saints did the same thing.......and we all remember how they blew us out. And last night..................SAME THING. My question to you guys is........can we even stop the freakin' blitz????? Does anyone remember a game last year when a team blitzed often AND WE MADE THEM PAY FOR IT????? I'm just wondering. This is starting to concern me. Someone EASE MY MIND:( :( !!!!!!

Well, Davis is a much better blocker then Trung or anyone else showed last night, but again it's early so we will have to see.

They need to work on their protections. Every team will copy Carolina. We have 5 they bring 6. This happened on almost every down.

Wow, I've been saying that SS would have to modify his offense to account for the Blitz for a long time now.

i think that because of our speed, teams will have a harder time blitzing us without getting burned. someone will have to be open.

Stop the blitz - EASY, it's call a TE screen. ..... BUT it requires a TE who can catch the ball.

:lol3: - Very true. There has to be a hot receiver on every play. Especially when we play Philly. I don't think SS will be able to run the number of routes on every play he likes to run. He'll have to consider having someone stay in and assist with blocking

I thinkk that Robert Royal is a good pass catching TE, just not Zeron... Gezzzzz, he has missed some easy balls over the past two seasons...

I know the WR screen is in the playbook (don't like THAT play either) but if you look back to last year and teams blowing through the line, one of the most effective plays to develop was the dump pass to the tightend OR occationally the TE screen. SS might not like it but it does work well in "HIS" offense. One thing for sure, IF we don't stop the blitz (and ever team is going to do it to us alot until we do) Ramsey's uniform is going to have another colored added to his uniform permanently ....... Grass-GREEN.

Thats what I was saying during the game saturday. Thats why I don't think we showed our hand too much. The play calling was very bland in the game.

Well, Carolina's playcalling was even more bland, yet more effective. The D line scared me more than anything.

I saw Carolinas defense run a lot of blitz packages. If you mean their offense, then I agree.

As far as teh TE screen, that would have helped but where was this recieving back we had to have. this is supposed to be Trung and Watsons strong point but I don't remember many plays going in that direction

I hate to say it but we had the same problem in our game. I ascribe both to the fact that both teams have too many new guys starting on the O-line. You have two new guards and might have a new center yet. We have a new tackle, a new center (twice) and a new system. Too much newness makes the linemen nervous. Nothing for it besides practise, practise, practise and games. Although Bill was quoted as saying he might simplify the system untill the teams shows it has basic plays down. That may apply to the Skins too, yes it is the second season this O has been implemented but you have what, a dozen new FAs, 3 new draftees and they comprize part of your starting O unit. Time will tell.

A great way to screw up the blitz is run a trap play or two. The sight of his blitzing defenders running past a sprinting tailback should make any defensive coordinator think twice about throwing the kitchen sink at our offense.

Oh I agree with that too!!! But if you go back a look at the game (and no one really wants to - I DON"T), when we attempted that there just happen to be a Carolina jail break going on and I think everything on our offense end up on their A55 at the line of scrimage. It was ugly! LOL - Oh well, we will work it out this week at camp - I hope!
