I really hope this Lonie guy wins the job. Frost was a very weak link in the field position battle.

i love the idea of a 6'-6" punter who can really boom it. i used to love to watch Reggie Robie punt and for some reason i am reminded of those days. Frost does nothing for me though, so i hope Lonie makes it too.

If we find a punter who also kicks off, the pressure is going to be on John Hall to make just about EVERY SINGLE kick. And with distance, too. I know he's been injured, but it's about time that he steps up, and starts earning that huge paycheck.

i do not think roby ever had a punt blocked... and it wasn't just his quick release. the guy was 6 6" or better and built like a truck. nobody wanted to run into him, or tick him off.
you got to love a player who wore a watch every time he was on the field-which is exactly what roby did.
i agree about frost being weak last year and i expect he will be under the gun this camp. still, lonie is going to have to prove his mettle under game pressure as well

Still wondering what the team saw in Frost that made them cut Groom early in last season....can't say that I think Frost outperformed Groom.

I agree if Hall is 100% healthy he will have a better chance of staying that way if he just does FGs

Frost is trash, PERIOD!
Sorry let me calm down. I just had a flash back of when he almost cost us the Tampa game this past season. I drove all the way to Tampa from Va & almost had to witness our punter blow our season. If he would have blown the game for us, ya'll would've had to take a collection to get me out of Tampa jail! I sure hope that somebody can step up and take his job. It shouldn't be too hard!

1. Did anyone see the video the other day on redskins.com of John Hall working out in the weight room? I thought they said his leg problem was because he worked out TOO much.....makes you wonder
2. It's amazing how overlooked some positions are in terms of their importance to the team. [Glad we have the red aussie to snap the ball for us! EA is MONEY!] With that stated, why is it that we don't make an improvement in this one vital area? Kickers and punters are probably one of the best [and cheapest] free agent pickups a team can make, and we seem to always ignore it. It's amazing how the Patriots thought $3M was too much for the clutch kicker of the decade and let Vinitieri [sp?] walk. That man is MONEY! I have replaced kicker/punter as our next vital free agent signing for the next offseason.....
I think one of the big signings Dallas made this past offseason is in the area of Vanderjagt [sp?], he is probably going to make the most impact for that team.

it isn't like when the skins cut akers and he went onto become an all pro kicker.. groom hasn't exactly taken the league by storm. both are marginal punters as of now..let us hope lonie can win the job outright and settle the situation for years.
there was a short note in scouts.com (sorry, no link) where it said that lonie was flawless in his handling of placement holds, so it was a small edge to him thus far..

you and i think very much alike along these lines. i keep wondering if we didn't miss the boat by not signing longwell and zastudil this off season. they would have cost a fraction of the other signings and would have provided young pros at those 2 critical positions.
if lonie wins out, then 1 of those decisions was obviously correct, but i am cincerned about hall being able to get through a season uninjured.
i do not think it was the weight room work that has caused the problem per se.. rather it is his participation in the kickoff coverage teams attempting toi make tackles that has lead to injuries. letting frost or lonie handle this chore this year would help a lot... as long as he is simply not getting brittle, the way conway became..

Well I certainly hope that we invest energies next year in these 2 vital areas.
Perhaps a 7th rounder next year, I was surprised to see we didn't use one of our sixth rounders on that punter for Seattle.
Well as we are all fond of stating: In Gibbs I Trust. I am sure he will continue to improve this team until we come home with the trophy.
