View Full Version : Team chemistry is fantastic...

...and of course, it's all because of Gibbs!

I posted this article in its own thread because of how fantastic I felt after reading it, and how I think many HR members will feel after reading it as well. Just like the regulars on HR, and how they're completely welcoming of new "talented teammates" here on the boards, Gibbs has assembled a team that genuinely likes each other - which, when combined with their immense talent, makes for the most productive workplace environment possible.

THIS is why Gibbs shines over other HOF-caliber coaches in his class, like Tuna and Belichek - his concern for 53 guys as people, not just players, is unlike any other championship-winning coach in NFL history in my humble opinion. He has always known that all players are different people, and that nobody can be forced to assimilate into what he preaches - only be offered the opportunity to agree to be a part of the team on his terms. Guys like Manley, Riggins, and now Taylor have agreed to be in union with the Monks, Jacobys, and now Brunells and Jansens - and work and be together as a unit with one common goal, no matter how different each of their personalities are.

They all agreed to work together, to be together, to be committed together...no matter what.

And those who demonstrate anything other than that willingness, that committment to their team are swiftly shown the door. (More recent examples being Coles, Gardner, and Arrington)

Gibbs' stamp is now firmly planted on this group of guys, even the newer ones like Arch, ARE, Lloyd, Fauria, and Carter - just listen to how they're talking about the reasons they chose to be here instead of elsewhere - it's not only Snyder's generous wallet, but also Gibbs' genuine persona and his care & committment to his players that convinces them to choose Washington as their home. Where a team like Green Bay has 14 players missing from their OTA's, the Skins this offseason boasted a 98% attendance rate - and we all know that Sean Taylor showing up at all this offseason is a huge difference from last season - no doubt Gibbs knows he had (and will continue) to step up his own quiet leadership and demands to create a unit that is truly "one for all."

I was completely inspired by this article... and chances are... if you'd consider yourself a "Gibbs guy..."

you will be, too!:awesomewo

Nice find. Not the same old stuff printed by the other news outlets.

I agree that the team is much closer than anytime since Gibbs left. I can't wait for pre-season to see these guys play.

They say coach Gibbs, in his third year since emerging from retirement, has completed a personality overhaul that emphasized character and hard work and weeded out as many disruptive players as possible.

"That's one of his strongest points, team chemistry," assistant coach Joe Bugel said. "You've got to be careful who you bring in, because it only takes one bad apple in that locker room to turn people off."

Priceless!:Pickle: :typeR2:

it was obvious towards the end of last season that the team chemsitry was fantastic.. they just did not have enough talent to make a run at the superbowl.
this season the talent should be there and it appears the chemistry is every bit as good.. we just need luck to follow..

As a quick aside to this great article, I don't know if you've had the opportunity to read any previous articles by Joseph White, but he is my personal favorite, no matter what team he is writing about. He always seems to find a different slant on a well-conversed topic and present it in an intelligent and interesting manner - not the same-old-same-old reporting style of more famous sportswriters out there.

A BIG :awesomewo to you, Joseph White!

In the spirit of Father's Day, I think Joe is "Father Redskin". He knows how to get the best out of his boys, but can direct and guide them in the right direction when they walk astray.

As a long-time fan, I really enjoy the humanistic value Joe Gibbs brings to the players: dedication, hard work, and the 3 Muskateers attitude.

EDIT: Let me have a hallejuah and Amen Jesus chimes in the wife!

I'm going to go a step further and state that we are going ALL the way this year AND NEXT. I expect them to be the representative in 2008 when the Superbowl comes to my town.

We have chemistry.
We have talent.
We have great coaches.
We have top rated offense and defense who will learn from each other.
We will be battled tested going into the playoffs and we will get a first round bye to rest up from wounds.
Our bye week is in the middle of the season.
Many games at home during the homestretch to the playoffs.

We're going to win it ALL this year and next!

Man, I had no idea this article would make people feel this good!

I'd LOVE to be back in The Big Game, but it is a long season, and everything that can be thrown in our way probably will - from improved opponents to inevitable injuries to lousy calls - and I hope our team can weather the storm. We are definitely "battle tested" after last season, and this year we've added some key "troops and generals" to our unit.

We're not going into this "war" to be the runner-up...:rpunch:

"Winning is good, but we are here to win it all!" Marty, did you hear that all the way in SD?

Oh, that's language you may not understand. So, let me translate that for you. Ultimately, coaches are judged not by what their teams do against mediocre and poor teams in regular season, but by what their teams do against quality teams in the playoffs.

Haha, man you really don't like Marty, do you? I don't think he's anything special, but compared to Norv and Spurrier I actually kinda like the guy. Spurrier is the ex-coach who I despise the most. Marty may be mediocre but Spurrier is simply a thief who took his 5 mil a year and then quit on the team midseason. Oh, how I loathe that man.

I feel the same way! People say that I'm crazy for thinking this way, but I just have the feeling. We haven't had a team like this for a long time. This team reminds me a lot of our older Superbowl teams. How everyone was in this together as a TEAM, and not "ME" or "I"! Big things are going to happen this year for this team. The future of this team has already been written, it's just a matter of time now!

I am not, and have never been, a big Marty fan. His track record and style of coach just leaves me cold. He is overly-conservative; that's why his teams don't make any noise in the postseason.

With new head coaches like Norv and Spurrier, it is unclear at the time of their hiring whether they would be great coaches. In other words, there is at least hope. On the other hand, you know Marty will not take any team all the way. I would never hire him for that reason.
