anytime the skins lose, i take it personal. after venting and letting out my frustrations with the skins 1st preseason game, im now looking forward to the next game against the patriots. i realized that it may be a blessing in disguise that we played badly as opposedto last year when we thought we had it made during the pre-season and then got spnked in the regular season. after all, as we all hve learned.... its just the pre-season. im confident that this team is much much better than what they showed on the field. i hope the guys turn up the heat in practice and realize that they really need to get to work.

LadyNRedskinsfan : hi ~ ~ ~
- no, i'm not a skins' fan.
- as far as the skins' recent loss, ( if i may say ) NOT to worry.
- it's PRE-season ( 1st game even - as you know ).
- you guys will probably/should do pretty good this season.
- YOUR fo did THEIR job this past off-season & have upgraded/improved several positions on the roster.
- i would be surprised if the skins' do NOT make the playoffs.
cheers ~ ~ ~

I hear ya Lady. It takes me a couple of days normally. I failed to read one newspaper yesturday due to the loss. There was know way in &%$# I was going to read the local media. I knew they would blow this win by the Panthers out of the water, even though its preseason. It was the first win by the panthers over the Skins.
Oh well, I'd gladly give them this game if it means that we'll whip them when it counts.
I wont be able to watch the next game against the Patriots. I'll have to have you guys keep me updated here.

isn't that the truth ... I spend January thru August looking forward to the next Redskins' season ... and watching them lose is bad enough, but watching them offer not one single shining promise of an entertaining season ... well ... lets just say my mood is so bad I think I need meds ... but its monday and I can start irrationally looking forward to the next game and convincinig myself that this is all actually part of an elaborate football-chess game that SOS is playing to misdirect the opposition ... one of those if you saw it in the pre-season you will never see it in the regular season mind-games ....

Folks, Last time we won the Superbowl, we won like 1 preseason game if that? I'm not worried.

Good point jporterweb.
But, the one thing that has me worried is this. We've had this same problem now for years. We had 12 penalties in the Panther game. Its the same mistakes that we made last year. All TC long we've heard Spurrier say that we had to be a smarter team. And we were being smarter in TC. Thats why Spurrier brought in officials for practices. But when we get into game situation we fall back into the old habits.
I can live with us being rusty or what ever you want to call it. But the mental mistakes that plagued us last year is hard to stomach.
With that said, I'm not to worried. I just hope we can get smarter by Sep. 4th.

Come on guys, it was bad but NOTHING to get depressed about.
We can keep going over how bad the both lines looked and all that stuff but let's look a some of the good things:
Scott Cloman (WR) had to impress you.
Mike Cecere (DE) looked good and might make a good Special Team player.
Robert Gillespie(RB) looks like he may push Betts for the #4 spot.
AND in short yard situation down by the goal line the D seem to play tough.

I'm glad to hear that people are finding some positives out of the game. It'll be interesting listening to George and Sonny interview the coach on the news this evening. I didn't see the game but from the comments on the board, it wasn't pretty. The defensive line definately needs to improve from what I'm hearing.

i did alot of venting and yelling obscenities during the game. afterwards, i fell into a deep deep sleep. i warned myself before the game that they probably will do horrible on defense, so i accepted that they got pounded. but the offense was no excuse. i was really made at them. and the horrible officiating.

The 1991 squad was a proven, veteran ballclub that had been to the playoffs nearly every year of Gibbs' tenure. Spurrier's ability to coach in the NFL is in question along with the glaring weaknesses with in the D line and RBs. This is certainly no time to throw in the towel, but in no way is this low confidence bunch like the one you refer to.

im not depressed over the game at all. i just dont like seeing my team lay down like that, pre-season or not. i understand that we looked great last pre-season and looked very mediocre in the real games. even in a scrimmage, you gotta play like you know what the hell you are doing and you wanna do it. it bugs me because now i have to wait until saturday to see them do better. like i said, im confident that this team has the talent to do very well this season, but i wanted them to at least resemble a good football team this pre-season. btw, i did notice that spurrier held back with the playcalling a bit. it seems to me like he let people (media and other coaches) get to him regarding the way he called games last pre-season. i hope he wasnt holding back because he didnt want to accused of running up the score again. and i do know that hue jackson was calling some plays in the second half, but im talking about the 1st half mostly.

Exactly. Two games into the season, no one will care. Not even us diehards. It's nice getting a preview of the new players. But W & Ls are immatterial at this point.

I think that coach George Allen said it best; "everytime you lose, a piece of you DIES." That's how I feel about every Redskins loss. I HATE to see us lose, period. Yeah, pre-season is just that, and it doesn't matter much, so I don't feel all THAT bad....................but we did LOSE, and I'm not happy either.

In the final preseason game in '91 the Jets beat the 'Skins. We went on to an 8-8 year and losing in the WC rd and you went on to dismantle Buffalo in the SB, I think I'd rather have the latter.

Yep, we were 1-3 in the 1991 preseason. We were 4-1 in the preseason last year.

We were 4-0 last year and started 1-4, 2-5(luckily we bounced back). Coming off the '91 playoff season the expectations were sky high for the Jets as we went 5-0 in the preaseason,we then went on to go 4-12. I don't take much out of W's & L's in the preseason, I just like to see the starting units improve each week and to see young players get a chance to play.
