View Full Version : ff league info?
Hi,
I'm in Ireland at the moment but I was wondering if one of the ff commisioners could post what I need to do in terms of the league fees or anything else necessary. I don't really have time to go back and look up what I need to do so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan
I have to say .. that's pretty annoying that noone took the time to respond to my post while I have limited time and the next thing I know I look in my e-mail and discover the league has already drafted. I could have been there had someone given me some info on when things were happening but Id rather not spend my vacation going back and looking up all the info that I have written down at home. Now I'm expected to pay for a league where I didn't even draft my players? I would've expected someone would have at least been courteous enough to respond to my post unless they viewed it as beneficial to keep me from drafting my team ..

Ford I am not in the FF but the reason you probably did not get a response is because you posted this in the wrong place...there is now a whole forum dedicated to FF. I will move the post there so more people who talk about this can see it.

Ford:
Im not sure why you don't have any of the info. It's posted all over the place in this very forum. I am pretty sure that when draft dates were discussed a month ago that DJ Stouty made sure that everyone in your conference was aware of the date and time. Furthermore, there was no contact from you stating that you would not be available. As a result, last night, we drafted your team for you, using Average Draft Positioning from a chart that we have. I find it odd that everyone else in the league was aware of the draft but you. I drafted for Nam-vet as was pre-arranged, and you had plenty of time to find a replacement, or even set-up a draft queue to make your picks for you. You are lucky that we were nice enough to give you the best player available at the time, b/c some were requesting that we give you Kickers and scabs. That nobody reponded to your post is indicitave of the fact that nobody saw your post. You could've PM'd Me or DJ as well as used e-mail to either one of us, yet you chose to use a single misplaced post as your method of communication.
Lastly, I resent the implication that someone would try to keep you from drafting your own team. We wanted everyone there, and everyone showed but you. Sounds like you need to look in the mirror if your aim is to place blame. As I said before, everyone else seemed to know about the draft, why is it that you didn't? If you don't want to play, I suggest letting someone know now, so that we can find a replacement for you. You made a commitment to play and paying 10 bucks was part of that commitment. We don't want anyone to feel cheated, but last night we had to do what was in the best interest of the league. Or should we have had everyone re-arrange their schedules to accomodate you vacationing in Ireland?
If 11 of the 12 show you must go forward. If you were in our shoes would you have handled it any differently? You are going to have to show your skills through managing the team. If you are the expert that people claim you are this shouldn't be a problem for you.

Bottom line is this, i think we did a great job for the first year. Emails were sent out, notices were on hailRedskins.com, discussions pointed to draft dates here, Threads were posted over a month ago with draft dates. Members had OVER a full months notice as of draft date and time. a MONTH! It was your responsibility to be here for the draft and if you woudl not be abel to , to make arrangements.

Dan---in all honesty you shoudl have contacted the commissioner of the league well in advance. Emails were dispatched threads were piosted, etc...everyone was aware of the dates and times because everyone was there.

i have to agree with PSF on this one ford, i let dj know in advance i was gonna be late so he took care of the one pick i didnt have set up in queue. he was really trying to look out for people, if they let him know. all you had to do was set up your queue and let dj know and all would have been takin care of. as far as not letting you know i know i personally recieved over 5 emails concerning the draft and dj even took the time to find out what time and date would be good for everyone, if you didnt respond then that would be your fault not that of dj or anyone else in admin.

Ford...I must say I'm pretty surprised by your surprise reaction that the "league had already drafted". You have been given countless information over the course of the past month regarding this league and its draft.
On 7/8 I polled the league for opinions on the Draft Date
Afterwards, I compiled everyone's imput and...
On 7/23 I emailed the league with the actual date and time of the draft. That was approx. 3 weeks ago.
Prior to the draft....
On 8/8 I emailed the league the full draft details. (how to draft. ways to create a queue..etc)
And those are the emails I REMEMBERED. There were countless others...
Creating a post THE DAY BEFORE the draft asking for draft details is a little late, IMO. If I had seen it, I would have certainly responded. Why didn't you email me weeks ago when you KNEW you were going to be overseas? Waiting till 24 hours before the draft was your choice. (and risk)
When the draft started last night at 7:00 YOU were a no-show. Plain and simple. I know you have previous FF experience, so I'm sure you can understand what typically happens in those situations, and how frustrating it can be. The server would have skipped you EVERY SINGLE PICK, had I not personally drafted a team for you off an "Average Draft Position" chart I had. I didn't have to do that. I also drafted you a very talented squad. One that included Priest Holmes, Ahman Green and Corey Dillon as your top Running backs! I didn't have to do that. In fact, your picks were always before or after mine...yet I still acted in your best interest while making selections for you...even if it was a player I would have liked when I was drafting next.
I would've expected someone would have at least been courteous enough to respond to my post unless they viewed it as beneficial to keep me from drafting my team ..
This quote pisses me off more than anything. To infer that I or anyone else in this league would intentionally NOT respond to your post simply to give us an edge is INSANE. Get over yourself. No one here considers you God's Gift to Fantasy Football.
Ford ~ You have two options. The first is claiming the team that was drafted for you (because of your absence at the draft) and bettering it via trades and/or free agency and send in your 10 bucks...OR your other option is to quit. Whatever your decision is, please let me know by next Monday. Otherwise, I hightly doubt it will be hard finding a subsitute to take over your talented squad.
I haven't received a single e-mail from any commissioners. Where or not they have the incorrect e-mail address for me .. I don't know but I haven't received a single notice. I didn't anticipate my trip to Ireland interfering with any draft since every FF league I have been associated with has drafted as close to the start of the season as possible. I am in Dublin at the moment and will return to Washington Sunday so I suppose I will give my decision then. For the record my e-mail address is dsfc3c@mizzou.edu. I'm paying €8.00 per hour just to use the internet and the main forum is generally the safest place to post questions of this nature .. I wasn't aware there was a FF board though I should have checked all the forums on the board.

Dude...the email address I used is the one YOU gave me.
dford525@hotmail.com
I know you MUST check it sometime, since it was the email address the Fanball server sent to you the email to activate your team. (which you did)
I'm sorry you didn't check your hotmail account but this is the address you gave me, and you don't even have a public email address available here at hr.com.

Sometimes things happen... I had a sudden vacation (scheduled by my wife) that came up over the designated draft day. I had to spend my first day of vacation (not in the hot tub)... but scrambling to find someone to draft my team (since the internet hasnt been invented where I was vacationing yet!).
As it was, I found an Eagles fan to do it for me and he did a great job. I helped coach him over the phone from my hot tub... but he handled the later rounds.
I probably would have done things differently in the later rounds... but that is the breaks. Now I must grab what I have and use free agency to build the Pregnant Parrots into the winner that they are.
I suggest you do the same Ford my friend... dont quit... you are better than that!
dford525@hotmail.com is my junkmail address i use for confirmations and crap like that so I don't get overloaded with junkmail in my inbox. I only use it when I know I have to respond to something from a site. I don't remember giving it to you as that wouldn't make sense, but if i did i apologise. dj .. get off my ass. You don't have to be an abrasive prick over the issue. The fact of the matter is, I've run fantasy leagues before and it is the commisioner's responsibility to get a response from every participant confirming that they are aware of the draft date whether they can attend or not. After not getting any responses to any emails sent to that address, that should have been a red flag. I wouldn't have been so annoyed by the issue if you hadn't SKIPPED my last five selections .. especially in a football league where reserves are key due to bye weeks and frequent injuries. I would love to hear the logic justifying that .. because there is none other than intentions of handicapping my team.

I find that hard to believe considering DJ does not know you, has no idea who you are, and has been playing fantasy football much longer than you. I apologize for the communication breakdown, but everyone esle got the message either via email, on this forum, or message on the main page.

I can only email you to the address you gave me. If you go back and open your "junk email account" you will find multiple emails from me regarding the league. One, in particular, asked people to email me IF the draft date didn't work for them, based on the everyone's input. That was a few weeks ago.

I really don't appreciate being called a prick. I've put a lot of work into this league...and the only thing I ask for in return is minimal responsibility from the other 11 owners. 10 of those 11 owners did their part. Guess who is the one who didn't?

Ok...Put yourself in my shoes. You were a NO SHOW at the draft. 11 other owners were in the live draft room, ON TIME, and waiting for you. You didn't show...so I drafted the minimum at each position for you. If you have experience with commishing a league, you know damn well its not the responsibility of the commish to draft an entire team for someone who doesn't show up for the draft! The only reason why I even drafted 10 rounds for you was so that we didn't 11 strong rosters and 1 weak roster. I didn't have to draft for you, Ford...especially since I had my own team to worry about.
Ford...I don't know you from Adam. I don't know (nor care) if you are a FF geek or a FF novice. The purpose of this league is to have a bunch of Skins fans play a friendly season of FF. To infer that I or anybody else in this league is SOOOOO scared of your FF talents that we decided to handicap your team is downright egotistical, and highly offensive to the league.
Don't bother letting me know your intentions to participate in this league by Monday. By your last two posts, you obviously have "trust" issues with me and the league and will not be participating.

Um...... dibs on Holmes?
Yea you're damn right I won't be participating. I just hope no important issues come up within the league so the rest of the participants won't have to see what a joke of a commisioner you are the way I did.
And Mark .. you know I like you and we've generally gotten along the past year or two sparing a couple incidents .. but it seems to me like you're just blindly supporting your commisioner a) because he's a moderator on your forum and b) because he's probably 2 to 3 times older than me and has played fantasy football longer. Experience is helpful but it doesn't make you exempt from mistakes.

Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish, I always say. Ford Both DJ and I have both asked you....What would you have done if you were in our shoes? Clearly 11/12ths of the league was aware of not only the draft Date, but the time. You were the only one who did not show up.
You continue to insult people's integrity and have reduced to downright name calling. That speaks volumes to me. For the record, DJ and I have been playing in fantasy leagues for a few years together, and We've never been confronted with a situation where someone DIDN"T SHOW UP FOR THE DRAFT. But more importantly, what should be noted is that DJ's integrity has ALWAYS been unquestioned. He is one of the most stand-up guys I know. If he were out to gain a competetive advantage, he wouldn't have drafted you such a talented team. Besides, Who the Frig do you think you are? Nobody is so afraid of your Fantasy Football Prowess that we would need to cheat to gain an advantage. The bottomline is you should've been at the draft and now you are bitching because you have to do a little work with the team you have (or had). No Respect. A fantasy genius as you claim to be would look at it as a challenge and move on.
Finally, I find it absolutely amazing that you can continiue to claim ignorance about the draft. E-mails were sent to the E-maill Address Provided by YOU. You think DJ pulled that e-mail Addy out of his A$$? You failed to check it, and that is YOUR FAILURE, nobody else's. Don't be upset with Mark over this, he's only calling it how he sees it. Have you considered for a moment that you are Wrong? Notice nobody (Not even Big Country, who incedently defended the heck out of you that night) has rushed to your defense or posted a comment coming close to your side of the fence on this issue. So don't play, I don't like playing with babies anyway and the league will move on with or without you.
PS. The only Joke here is the way you've handled the situation. Any reasonable person can see that. DJ is doing a fine job as a commish and has been much more patient than I would've been in dealing with the likes of you!!! Smell ya later Buddy.

Ford, honestly, I can't believe the way you're handling this. They drafted for you, for Chrissakes! Other people almost missed the draft, too. They had contigency plans. Mike didn't know until the last minute that he could make it, so he talked with me beforehand about drafting for him. I believe a couple other people had at least part of their drafts done for them as well. It wasn't a difficult thing to do.
You take this whole thing as a slap in the face when you're really the one doing the slapping. And if you start tossing insults around again, I'll just close the thread. Simple as that.

They skipped five selections, Joe. When you draft for someone what's the point in stopping short other than to dick over their team?

First of all I wouldn't view it as a challange .. i'd view it as inheriting someone else's team and trying to tweak draft selections I wouldn't have made into a decent team .. while lacking FIVE players .. because the commish didnt feel like drafting that part. He emailed my spam address and never got a response to anything, which should have been a red flag, like I've said.
I understand what he did, and from a strictly logistical standpoint I can see it. I just think it was inconsiderate and out of line.
As far as Uri defending me on draft night, I would have to thank him for it as he's been a loyal friend of mine since HQ and beyond.

Inconsiderate and out of line? Ford, what possible action was either one of those? Starting the draft when 11 of 12 members were there? Drafting for you? Taking the time to email everyone repeatedly and post draft info on the site? Nothing that was done was the least bit inconsiderate, and anything but out of line.
They stopped five selections short when they could have stopped fifteen selections short. Instead of griping on the boards, you could have easily filled those spots by now. Probably could have picked up a starter in Kelly Holcomb or Doug Johnson.
Keino
08-18-2003, 12:21 PM
JDS I told myself I was done with this, but Im going to piggyback one of your points.
Ford, Stopping 5 players short should not have hurt you at all except in terms of depth. You would've had all your starters in place with the exception of a Kicker, the most insignificant position in FF. If you are drafting a player that you NEED in round 10 or later, then you aren't having a good draft. Since we all know what picks were made for you, we know that it is simply not the case. You were left with plenty of players to either work with or trade and upgrade. Working with another person's drafted team (which I've done before) is a challenge, but you're choosing to view it as someone trying to cripple your chances. The Fact is, had you showed, there would be no such feeling on your end, because you would've drafted your own team.
I will say this one more time, becuase it hasn't registered any of the other 6 times I said it and the 5 times DJ said it. E-mails were sent to the address provided by you. Where else would DJ have gotten your "Junk E-mail" Address. Had you provided us with the proper e-mail address, you would have been fully informed. Plus it seems you had time to check in to the HR forums and the information is posted all over the place here, in the same forum you come back to bitch on.
I am now through with this. You have chosen not to take the team, so stop beating a dead horse. It's over and done with and someone else will take over that team and work with.
