I read a piece on "Warpathinsiders.com" (it's also called "Redskins.theinsiders.com") earlier today and it made sense.... I'm sure most, if not all of you have heard of the "other" site.... The piece was written by Rick Terlander (sp?).... He basically stated, (paraphrasing) "The Redskins would've had an 8-man front against Davis and dared Rodney Peete to beat them." He also stated, "A game lasts 60 minutes, instead of 15 minutes.... Technically, the Panthers first-team only held a 6-0 lead against the 'Skins first-team." Some things Terlander mentioned, I had already mentioned to my supervisor earlier this morning.... Before reading Terlander's article, I told my supervisor, "You play 60 mins., not 15." And, I also mentioned to my supervisor, "The regular season games are a chess-match--not the preseason games." Terlander mentioned the same in his piece.... Did I like what I witnessed on Saturday? Not really.... Am I going to get all worked up about it? Nope. I would like to see improvement in each preseason game, but I don't think it's the barometer of how the season is going to play out.... Hell! A team can look like garbage during the first, few weeks of the regular season and catch fire around the 5th or 6th week of the season and do some serious damage.... If, any of you get a chance--read the article by Terlander.... It's food for thought and I doubt if it'll leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Good point about the eight in the box thing, I hadn't looked for that in the game, just kinda assumed they would against a team like Carolina.

Yeah, most teams don't game plan in preseason. I guess the Panthers just really wanted a win really bad.

Yep they did. They did not want to go down 0-8 in games against us.:D

Like they told us last preseason. It's the regular season that counts. See them then.

spurrier even said himself that they werent going to focus on certain key players on the panthers. that they were going to focus on themselves.

Yeah, the whole "game planning" thing and the "8 in the box" thing sounds good and I don't mean to be negative......but HOW MANY YARDS DID DAVIS GET BECAUSE OF POOR TACKLING??? I would bet a dollar to a doughnut that if the first (or even second) Redskins player that hit him would have actually tackled him, he would have been more like; 7 carries, 21 yards, 3.0 average. JMO.

that's what davis is good at. he can carry linebackers, and even defensive linemen, on his back.

Some of the best bets are kept off the field in preseason (B.Smith, J.Trotter, J.Armstead- 3 probowlers!)

It's a scrimage on TV, nothing more. The final cutting board for the coach. And that goes double for teams your going to play early in the season. Play the dummy game in preseason/pull out all the cards in season.

Not to be a naysayer, but who said they had a "gameplan" because they really wnated to beat us? Maybe they were approaching the game just like us, focusing on themselves. Scarey.
