With his present injury keeping him on the sidelines, is McCants actually "loosing ground" on newcomers Flowers, Cloman and Patrick Johnson?? Does he need to "prove" himself (on the field) all over again to stay with the team?? With Coles, Gardner, Jacobs and Russell all but assured of making the team, who do you envison as the #5 and possibly #6 WR's?

Whoever can cover punts and kicks the best. I don't care who. The 5 & 6 guys will rarely see the field as wideouts. We need help at coverage based on last years' performance. Its as simple as that IMO.

Losing ground - ?maybe? But I think because he did prove himself last year and SS knows what he's capable of, he'll compare that with the current group, at least when it comes to Cloman, Flowers, and Johnson. The first four position are set baring injury.

Games two through 4 coming up will make these decisions.

Remember the dominating preseason DMC had last year? Its the same one he would have this year if he didn't have a nagging injury. Spurrier likes him...and the proof is the fact that the kid still got playing time even after that horrible fumble last season.
My mind is made up that DMC is going to win the 4th WR spot or at worst case the 5th WR spot for this club. No guy who makes ONE catch in a presason game (Cloman) will get the instant nod over a WR with regular season gametime in Spurrier's offense.
My prediction:
1. Coles
2. Gardner
3. Jacobs
4. DMC
5. Russell
6. Best available (who looks to be Cloman or Flowers)

I've been saying all offseason that I expected McCants to struggle to make the roster. Nothing has changed my view. At best he'll be the 5th receiver but if I was a betting man I would bet he's cut.

I think he will make it..I still think Patrick Johnson is the odd man out unless he shows somehting during preseason.

it just doesn't really matter. Whoever can catch the ball the one time we need them to every 2 games gets my nod.
Trade McCants for a DL help!

I think Russle will take over the #4 slot. DMC will probably be the #5 and Cloman #6. I look for all 6 WRs to get playing time when it counts.....

Did anyone hear how bad Cloman was injured?

Yeah, heard he had a "strained shoulder" and was participating in practice as of today.
On another note, I'm starting to think that it's Patrick Johnson who is on the hot seat. McCants knows the offense better and although not as fast as Johnson, has been a favorite of Spurrier (so I hear). Johnson can burn (I remember when he was playing good ball for the Ravens) and if he stays healthy, could be a threat. I still like Cloman. I'm so/so about Flowers. Special teams will play a role.
