ASHBURN, Va. — Concerned about a potentially dangerous infection that hit five players the past two seasons, the Washington Redskins hired a company to treat their practice facility with a spray that controls the growth of bacteria and mold.

From the Times link:

No Kennedy
Gibbs said the Redskins declined to work out Lincoln Kennedy because of the former Oakland offensive tackle's poor physical condition and medical issues.

I hope this puts that issue to bed.

I like the sound of this

Saunders appreciates Portis' tough-nosed attitude, but he also wants to make life easier for him. "Instead of going through nine guys, you'd like to make just one guy miss him," Saunders says. "Everything was more condensed last year; it was a more downhill running game that wasn't complemented by a passing game to spread the defense. What we hope to do with Clinton is give him the same opportunities he had last year as a downhill, insider runner but increase his ability to work the perimeter. We'll hand him the ball, we'll pitch him the ball and we'll throw him the ball. We do have some linemen here who are very athletic. We can take more advantage of the perimeter game.

"It's not how you get him the ball; it's that you get him the ball. The more you get him in space, the more productive he's going to be."

From the WP article on Salave'a:

Adventurous tight end Chris Cooley is dabbling with the idea of cornrows. "Some guys are trying to talk me into it," he said. "I might be persuaded." . . .

Washington's secondary believes it can be a primary strength with the addition of veteran players and a new cornerbacks coach.

Although the second page of Wilbon's article is correct about Brunnell, how many teams in the NFL can take losing their starting QB?!?!?!?? What a ridiculous argument?!?!?

Do you think the hype around Dallas would disappear if Bledsoe goes down?

Wouldn't the hype around Baltimore come back to earth if/when McNair gets hurt?

And would ANYONE talk about the Pats or the Colts if their respected leaders are lost for the season???

Someone please get Wilbon this shirt:

I can promise you that no player felt the Redskins were his "second family" while Spurrier was here. That Salave'a article is a testament to the type of atmosphere that Gibbs creates with his players and coaches.

Glad to see Big Joe back. I'm expecting big things from him this year.
